Kefalonia Island - The Best Beaches In Greece

- In our opinion, Kefalonia island has the best beaches in Greece! From Myrtos to Assos to Platias, this island is truly blessed with beaches. But that's not all that there is to offer here! In this week's episode, we rent another car on Kefalonia and explore for a few days. We drive all the way around the island (except for the Southeast) and see many beautiful places including the Paliki Peninsula, Assos Town, Myrtos Beach, Fiskardo, Argostoli, Sklavos Winery and much more! We eat delicious greek food, swim in some of the most beautiful water we've ever seen, meet new friends and try new wines!
This island is famous for having some of the best beaches in Greece, and while we agree that there are some spectacular stretches of sand, it's really the raw nature and laid back vibe of Kefalonia that we loved.
This is definitely one of the best islands in Greece and we will return one day to explore some more! For now, check out what we've seen so far!

We're at our second island here in Greece this is Kefalonia. We just picked up this little ride from ETAM KCG Travel here on the island, we're going to be ripping around, checking out this place. It's famous for it's rocky coastline, pristine beaches and tasty wine. It's one of the largest islands in the Ionian Island chain and also one of the largest islands in Greece, so we definitely need a car.
So in this episode we're exploring Kefalonia. Let's do it guys!
We just checked into our hotel, this is White Rocks on Kefalonia Island. Which we're so happy about because check out our view from our amazing room. This hotel is set on two breathtaking blue flag beaches and we have a view of them right from our room here. It's incredible so we're so happy to be here for four nights and wake up to this view every morning. So we're just going to drop off our bags and go explore Kefalonia.
We spent the afternoon hanging out at the beaches near our hotel, and then we came out to this place, this is Sto Psito Restaurant. We've been told that they serve up traditional food using local ingredients and we're excited to try Kefalonian wine and the specialties as well. Plus there are supposed to be amazing views from the sunset terrace. I can tell already that it's going to be gorgeous so let's get in there.
We're now in Argostoli which is the capital of Kefalonia. This city like many places in the south end of the island was rocked by an earth quake in the 1950s so it's been rebuilt, but there are still nice buildings like this church here behind us and there's a beautiful seafront promenade that runs for probably a couple of kilometers so we're going to go hit that up right now.
So it wasn't until 1864 that these Ionian Islands became a part of Greece, before that they were occupied by the French, The Russians, The Italians, The Turks, so they've basically had a really different history from the rest of Greece. So they have their own traditions which we're getting to witness here today because their wearing traditional clothing and they're dancing and having a parade to celebrate 1864 when they officially reunited with Greece.
We just drove about an hour from the capital to come all the way over here on the other side of the peninsula to this little place, this is called Petani Beach and it's gorgeous but it's super windy and super wavy right now so we won't be swimming, but we're going to chill out in this little tavern for now and have some lunch.
So we just finished up a tasty lunch on the beach and then we drove for another twennty minutes and now we're in the little town of Lixoury. We're on the Paliki Peninsula and there is hardly anybody here. The drive took us through a lot of undeveloped areas and now we're in this town and I don't see anyone around there's just a bunch of fishing boats and it's pretty cool. So now we're just going to walk around, explore the plaza, have a coffee and explore this little town a little bit.
another short little drive from Lixoury town brought us here, this is Xi Beach. The sand here is unique in that it's really rust color and kind of reddish and there's mud here that you're supposed to rub all over your body and it's like a spa treatment for your skin.
So we're going to walk along this sand for a little bit and then this afternoon we're supposed to go for a wine tasting, so we don't have very much time to hangout on Xi Beach here but we'll do a little stroll on the sand here and then hop back in the car.
Last night when we ate at that Tavern we had that Sklavos wine that I said we just loved and today we're going to meet Mr.Sklavos, we're at the Sklavos Vineyard and I think we're going to walk around the vineyard and maybe try some more of this delicious wine!

I went there the first time this year. With my girlfriend. She had been here lots. So knows some cracking places. But the best place we found was the place in our hearts for each other and the island.

Great info tour of the island. Been to Greece once, still can't get over beautiful Santerini! I'm wondering about any problems with language? Do most speak english? Greek food is to die for, and the history is mind boggling! Really love your videos, and going to share this with our daughter...
Thanks for the comment James 😀 Most people that we encountered speak English, at least a little. But not everywhere, and in those cases, it's still easy enough to get by with hand gestures and translation apps. Greek food is sooo good! Cheers 😀

We are heading that way in September 19 and after Croatia we wanted to spend about three weeks in the Greek islands Kefalonia is definitely on our list and we would like to do a couple more we were thinking Corfu and I have watched your video on that and wondered if you would recommend Corfu and which other Islands ?
Greece is a beautiful country. Sometimes it looks like Croatia. Greeks settled in Croatia too. For example the island Korcula and the elaphiti islands in the near of Dubrovnik. Greeks are the best for having fun and party.
Im American and have not been to Greece but was in Croatia last month and was thinking the same thing. Looks a lot like Croatia. My boyfriend has in fact been to the Greek islands and preferred Croatia. I loved Croatia and believe I would love it here too

Amazing!! This is so helpful as my husband and I just decided today we’re going to go for 3 nights. It’s last minute (leave 2 weeks from today). We don’t have time to get an international drivers permit since we won’t be back in the US before we go. Did you need one when you rented your car there?
We want to tour different clusters of the Greek islands on each vacation. We travelled some Cyclade Islands which have a beauty of their own. Now we will tour Ionian Islands. We are following you! LOL We will be starting from Zakynthos then Kefolonia and time permitting moving north from there. From what we have seen from your videos we will continue to be amazed at the natural beauty of each one. If you have any pointers on renting cars, a boat or any other input please let us know. Many gorgeous small clusters of beach, are there any long stretches on either island?

Kefalonia is a beautiful island but found the Zante beaches to be a little better. Chose to visit Kefalonia because of your vid :) ... but wouldn't go there in early May if you are looking to swim in the ocean. Cold breezes!

Not weather (Sun) save anymore. Already in september these ionian Islands can have quite rainy days. if you want to explore go for it (it will be very quiet though) but for a safe summer holiday, go to the cyclades in beginning of October or to Cyprus.

not occupied by turks. the beach you were on called tourkopodaro, translated "turks foot" there is a rock formation just off the beach, it stands for the turks foot that never made it to Kefalonian land. Lord Byron protected us from the savages. which is why you will see Byrons name all over the island.

Dreamy! The prices in Greece are great. Meals are €5 and up, apartments can be had for €25 - €35 euros a night, rental cars are around €20 / day. All of the prices depends on which time of year you visit, and how far in advance you book.
Goats On The Road dont lie people. Night in white rock with breakfast is 280€! Rent a car is more than 60€... giro pita is 3€. Diner for 2 is more than 30€

Marko Cetnik what?! Rental cars are never €60! We got ours for €15 per day! White Rocks is more expensive but rooms were going for €100 when we were there. Anyway that was a special occasion for us. We had a beautiful apartment in Zakynthos for €20 per night. Loads of meals available for €5-10 ! and portions are huge. Not liars. Greece is great value. Especially in shoulder season.
We stayed in July, Apartment on the beach (Staircase Bar Lassi) 60 euro a night, average meal per person with wine 15-20 euro , car hire 5 days 4 nights 150 euro, fantastic value for one of the most prettiest places on earth.

Video is OK but you are severely mispronouncing the Ionian Sea. Try pronounce it like YO-nian the way everyone on earth is pronouncing it. It's a matter of respect for the place you are visiting.

Hi Marko. Sorry that you feel that our travel style is too expensive. We ate at local restaurants and rented a car (as we did on every island we've travelled to). White Rocks is GORGEOUS and worth every penny. If you want, sure, you can stay somewhere cheaper, as we did on Zakynthos island for €20, €70 on Lesvos Island, and on Chios Island for €40/night. We saw Kefalonia Island top to bottom, left to right and loved it. Having a rental car was the best way to get around, and in our opinion, is always worth the cost. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Kefalonia.

White rocks probably give u free room to say is GORGEUS! There is few more hotel and studio in Lassi for much less money.
every restorant is lokal on kefalonia, and meal for two is from 20€ without drinks or salad, except giro pita or souvlaki, which is not enough for real meal. Rent a car in season july-avg is more than 40€ if u find free. And there is no chanse to visit every place or beach for 4 days.

Marko Cetnik I totally agree with you. They visited only the most commercial places. For example most impression on me was when I visited beaches Fteri and Platia Amos, national park Ainos, driving from Agia Efimia to Horgota beach, and road from Asoss to Myrtos. There is a lot of things more what we didn't see on this video. Video is interesting and good but missed the point. I think they lost half time on their launches in restaurants, hotel accommodation, their car. Kefalonia has to offer more...
@@Goatsontheroad Why are you feeling bad or sorry for going to a hotel of higher price? This was a travel video to show the beaches and also a travel vlog not a travel guide video. If this was the case then perhaps you could show hotel choices for average prices but your video was about the beaches and also a travel vlog.
Don't feel bad or sorry for going to a hotel that is of higher price and has a richer offering! This is like feeling sorry for driving a more expensive car. You drive a more expensive car because this is what you feel you enjoy! It is your right!
This was hard to watch. First of all seeing that you stayed at white rocks mad me cringe. You clearly have loads of money or you just don't care because you can stay in, in my opinion, much nicer places for so much less money. Then you pronounced nearly everything wrong. And saying that myrtos is the best beach is hyped bullshit. You didn't do much research and only went to the tourist places on the island.
It;s not just the beach, it's the scenery surrounding it, the colour of the sea, etc.
