It's simple, what Cambodia wears. Cambodia comes to buy clothes from Thailand. So how can it not be similar? Cambodia tried to claim but everything Cambodia put in was to buy from Thailand. Cambodia doesn't sew it itself. The jewelry is from Thailand. If you want to know, come to Thailand. Come and see the production source in Thailand. Please come and have a look.
The reason they started claiming all these things from Thailand is because it is easier than improve from what they have.
These claiming trend of our dresses and cultures started in 2018, there was a Thai drama series from Thailand called "Love Destiny". It was a big hit in Southeast Asia even in China also. This drama is part of the Thai soft power strategy to bring Thai's culture to the world stage. They even made a knock off version of this drama without buying the rights to do so. Later they paid but after the knock-off drama was already aired. So, they start claiming that all of these dresses are from their culture.
Talk about the culture aspect, I wouldn't say we share. Yes we are neighbor, but in the past we were enemy, Cambodia were colonized and under the rules of Thailand for more than 400 years almost 500 years. All the cultures that they are claiming were originally from Thailand. It would not make sense for the winner of the war to take the culture of the loser country right.
If you need more information about this dispute, it's going to take a long time to explain.
You need to go learn the real history of Siam. Everywhere the winners get to write the history so the winners can claim whatever they want. That is fact, my friend. Go learn and then learn some more not from the Thai history books. Remember your scholars had to go on live TV to say “ khon Thai mai ma chak nai” your effing king 100% Chinese blood.

Zhou Daguan who visited Angkor in 1296 -1297. He recorded that Khmer did not know how to sew, weave from weaving loom, did not raised silkworm and most fabric imported from siam and champa.
Khmer during angkor did not even have costume but dressed as barbarian.
While zhou daguan mentioned about Siamese who expert in fabric production, knew how to sew and exported fabric and silk. From his record, it clearly showed who should have costume first.

Just because they didn't wear it. Doesn't mean it's not their culture.
The difference between the Thai dress and the Khmer dress is very easy to see. The Thai dress has a "sabai" which is a long piece of cloth wrapped around the woman's chest. Draped across the shoulders and back, almost reaching the floor. Cambodia's Sampot costume doesn't have "Sabai". They've only been using it for less than 10 years and say it's the national costume.
Thai dress is influenced by the Indian sari dress. We accept that, but we have improved it to suit Thai people. But the Khmers copied us and said they were theirs, so the two countries fought on social media.
This is a total lie because SAMPOT IS WORN FOR CERTAIN CEREMONIAL EVENTS STOP TRYING TO SAY ITS OUR NATIONAL COSTUME .

ขอบคุณ Clevy ฉันมีความเห็นอยากแชร์กับคุณ คนกัมพูชาเดินทางเข้ามาทำงานในประเทศไทยปีละ 250,000 คนเป็นลูกจ้างค่าแรงขั้นต่ำทั่วไปมีความคุ้นเคยกับอาหารและวัฒนธรรมไทยมายาวนานแต่ไม่สมควรที่มากล่าวอ้างว่าเป็นวัฒนธรรมของตนเอง ชุดไทยที่สวยงามของประเทศไทยได้รับการพัฒนาต่อยอดมาหลายร้อยปีจนถึงยุคสมัยพระบรมราชินีนาถสิริกิติต์ ท่านได้ออกแบบร่มกับนักออกแบบเสื้อผ้า ให้เป็นชุดไทยทางการของสาวไทยถึง 8 แบบ เพื่อส่งเสริมการใช้ผ้าไทยสร้างการตลาดให้กับผู้หญิงไทยที่ผลิตผ้าไหมงานฝีมืองดงามจากจังหวัดห่างไกลความเจริญได้มีรายได้เพิ่ม โดยสมเด็จพระราชินีท่านสวมใส่เป็นแบบอย่างเป็นประจำตั้งแต่ท่านเป็นวัยรุ่นจนตอนนี้ท่านอายุ 90 พรรษาแล้ว ชุดไทยไม่ได้มีแค่ความสวยงามแต่มีเรื่องราวเบื้องหลังมากมาย ผ้าทุกชิ้นที่ประกอบเป็นชุดใช้เทคนิกการทอผ้า ลายผ้า และสีสัน ไม่เหมือนกันและแตกต่างกันตามภูมิภาคของไทย

Ordered from Thailand to come visit Angkor Wat. Khmers therefore understand that the Thai dress is their own. Even though I don't know where it came from, I don't know how to sew. And after the wedding, the new generation likes to wear Thai wedding dresses. Because it looks beautiful and luxurious, it makes Khmer people not want to go back to wearing their own national costume.

This traditional costume was designed for Miss Universe Thailand in 2016 which was inspired by the costume of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s Creations (our queen mother now) by Pierre Balmain french designer.
This costume can be called as his copyright but Cambodian don't know about this history but claim as their original during Angkor period while at that time Cambodian did not even have costume but dressed as barbarian.
You can search about the record of Zhou Daguan Chinese ambassador who visited Angkor in 1296.
