I'm so fortunate to have seen Yul Brynner in the King and I on Broadway as a teen. Yul Brynner was masterful in the part and did not disappoint. Thank you for preserving this footage.
I saw both of these productions and they were both incredible -- and completely different from each other. Thank you for sharing this wonderful (if all too brief) footage!!!
@cbiswhite technically, Nureyev was mostly a Tatar on both sides so technically he was Euro-Asian, not a Siamese on any account but neither was Chow Yun Fat
Why did Nureyev play the King? By the time he was in the revival, the show was already a hit, so why did the producers feel the need to cast a white man in the role of an Asian man?

Wow. I still remember the Yul Brenner commercial from when I was a little kid. He looked so cool that I wanted to see the show!

I never knew that the late Rudolph Nureyev had starred in a stage production of The King and I!
It would have been a thrill to see Lou Diamond Phillips play the King almost as Yul Brynner.
Thanks so much!!!
Liz Robertson was Madame Giry in Phantom's 25th Anniversary Concert!!!
First one is so right that no one could play the role like Brynner could, no wonder every revival with him was a sell-out.

@ItalianDivo101 Yeah, it's like, "Come see the show or 12 children will cry."
