The entire time he was showing her with no emotion I was DYING. For someone who spends the whole movie getting told to control her emotions, she really seems to have them under control.
exactly, not enough for the kree. also you do realise having emotions doesn’t necessarily mean showing them on your face. *feeling* them inside, that’s what matters. you honestly think oscar winner brie larson doesn’t realise this?
Probably my biggest problem with this movie was the dissonance between how the movie said Carol was and how she actually was. If they were gonna go with the “keep your emotions in check” thing, it would’ve been much better if she was a rash and hotheaded character, kinda like Korra from season 1 of LoK. Instead, we got a stoic, occasionally snarky badass that made the whole plot point feel weird and kinda forced. And this isn’t Brie Larson’s fault, she’s a good actress. It feels more like it’s a problem with the direction.
That's the thing though she really didn't. I've been like that on the outside myself but what was inside was just utter chaos. It's a coping mechanism to try to put a lid on something your desperately trying to control in a situation that is completely beyond your control. Just seeing this montage and seeing myself in it had such a profound effect on me, it's like being able to step outside my own body and better realize what's been happening to me.
The idea was that she wasn't too emotional but men kept telling her that because they're sexist. The movie was about feminism, nothing else. And the kind of feminism that is really anti-men and pro-being mean and pissed off and not having a sense of humor. Just a giant middle finger to men basically, it was nothing but virtue signaling and lecturing men about how evil they are.

No. But if everyone SCREAMS at her to BE LESS EMOTIONAL OMG CAROL, YOU‘RE GONNA KILL US WITH YOUR EMOTIONS!!1! And then you see her staying pretty calm and just making it out with herself for a couple of seconds, it seems pretty well... dum.

Why can't they just have black non-friends who still have their own storylines and arcs, and still live past the end of the story? We really didn't need to tie Monica and Maria to Carol, for one they're far too interesting to be glommed onto boring ass Carol. Captain marvel, in the comics, puts tony in a coma and makes miles kill cap, she's not emotional, she has as much emotions as say... Hela, but a good hela..
She wasn't allowed to show any emotions for years, so the fact that her expression was almost blank when she was getting called too emotional was the point. They were gaslighting her. That's why the scenes with Maria and Monica where she teared up and showed her weakness had such an impact.
Bad writing. Honestly. The writers clearly phoned it in so someone else would deal with it. It's why she's barely in endgame and when she was it was just to give everyone else a breather before she's literally punched out of the movie.
I was exactly thinking about Nick Fury's eye today, rewatching The winter soldier. I would have thought it was some traitorous friend/shield operative who did this to him, but apparently... it was garfield.
No joke, i honestly think that the movie had all of captain marvels' scenes reshot or edited since the sheer lack of cognitive dissonance regarding what everyone is saying about her emotions compared to the actual performance is hilariously bad. Which is doubly weird because despite Brie Larson's ego, she is a legitimately good actress when it comes to emotional expression (most of the time at least...) yet for some inexplicably dumb reason her character is written as inexpressive and stone bland as how she is Unicorn Store, one of the worst films ever made in the last decade.

"Control your emotions!" "What emotions?" I didn't understand the brilliance behind this until the end. He keeps knocking her down by taunting her about showing her emotions until he actually stirs her into frustration, thus finally pushing her from doing great into doing.. less great... so that he can knock her down and let her know he's still boss and she still has 'a lot to learn'. It is, in its own way, a type of gaslighting, and it works until the end, when she either finally figures out that she *isn't* a super-emotional person or just stops caring whether he thinks she's emotional or not. If it'd ended there, it would've been brilliant. Unfortunately, they pushed just a little too hard in every part of the plot, turning an otherwise fun film with a solid lead into "Mansplaining: The Movie".
Isn't her getting called emotional when she is normally doing a good job keeping her emotions in check to keep from getting emotional and has a pretty good reason for getting emotional when she can't keep them in check a major plot point? Wasn't that her whole arc that ended with her photon blasting Jude Law saying she doesn't care what he thinks? I thought it was a little obvious and on the nose commentary about something women have to deal with but if people aren't getting it I guess they should have highlighted, underlined, and surrounded it with flashing neon signs.

"CYBERPUNK"
Honestly, though, the whole thing with the emotions was the one huge thing I didn't like about the movie. I'm glad someone else noticed it.
She was brainwashed by aliens!!!!!!!! Plus, practically the only emotion that escaped her is anger, which the Kree were obviously afraid of.
Bad writing. Honestly. The writers clearly phoned it in so someone else would deal with it. It's why she's barely in endgame and when she was it was just to give everyone else a breather before she's literally punched out of the movie.
@@CantDraw-bq6pj Yeah I always felt like it was something more like that.

I laughed so hard during that scene
Look at the other comments. People are coming up with the stupidest theories to justify her terrible acting.

"Control your emotions!"
"What emotions?"
I didn't understand the brilliance behind this until the end.

Carol, Calm down. Your Getting too emotional. 😂😂😂
@@El-mi4vi are you seriously trying to say that women are not allowed to be emotional compared to men? Oh honey, I've been allowed to openly cry, get angry, birch and moan, and generally be a hormonal human being. All while my male friends were taught that they were allowed to be angry but crying was a hard no. I still remember a gay friend being mocked for crying because his family disowned him. I have seen male rape victims told to just brush it off. Male tears is a literal meme. Yes my gender has plenty of draw backs and steps forward to make, but emotional repression? That is where we are ducking privileged, and we need to check it.
