    Ford Maverick
The Ford Maverick, introduced two years ago, is a compact unibody truck built on the same platform as the Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Escape. It offers a blend of crossover SUV comfort with truck utility, featuring a four-door crew cab with seating for five and ample interior storage. Available powertrains include a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a fuel-efficient 190-horsepower hybrid rated at 37 mpg combined. The Maverick comes standard with front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available for the non-hybrid variant. It also offers two off-road packages, including the Tremor.
The truck bed is 4.5 feet long, suitable for home improvement or garden supplies, and easy to load due to the Maverick's low ride height. It supports up to 1,500 pounds of cargo and can tow up to 4,000 pounds when properly equipped. The Maverick also includes a variety of bed accessories powered by outlets and tie-down cleats for securing loads. As a compact truck, it stands out in the U.S. market alongside its closest competitor, the Hyundai Santa Cruz, and is a smaller alternative to midsize pickups like the Ford Ranger and Nissan Frontier.
    Hyundai Santa Cruz
The Hyundai Santa Cruz is a compact truck that combines the comfort and capability of a compact SUV with the utility of an open cargo bed. It offers two engine choices, front- or all-wheel drive, and multiple trim levels, making it versatile enough to serve as either a budget pickup or a high-end lifestyle vehicle. The Santa Cruz, along with the Ford Maverick, has rekindled interest in smaller trucks, which are more maneuverable, fuel-efficient, and fun to drive compared to full-size models.
While not designed for heavy towing or hauling, the Santa Cruz excels in driveability and interior quality, offering a comfortable and practical alternative for those who don't need the capability of full-size pickups. It serves as an ideal option for light-duty tasks and active lifestyles, standing out in the compact truck segment alongside the Ford Maverick. The Honda Ridgeline presents a midsize alternative for those seeking something between a compact and a full-size truck.

The point of these vehicles is to be entry level. Once again, the price creep will take them out of that category in the next couple of years.

Mavericks are 40k+ off the lot at a dealership here in Canada. The greasy scumbag dealers have marked these up higher than anything else they sell. The price creep has already put them out of reach for the average salaried Canadian who wants a vehicle payment that won’t bury them

Fact is the santa cruz feels like an Audi or BMW when you drive it. Its not as refined, but its not as expensive either. I bought a Santa Cruz Limited after test driving both an Audi A4, Q5, and a Bmw 3,4,5 series and X3. Its really good.

I bought a 2022 Maverick Lariat and I love it. I can see the Santa Cruz out selling the ranger. The new ranger is just a sporting F150, it's too big. I remember the old Rangers from the 90s and the 2000s being just some cheap small pickup. My maverick side by side a 90s ranger (I parked by a few) and the overall size is comparable minus the bed being shorter to accommodate the bigger cab on the Maverick.

The reason the maverick is outselling the ranger is because it doesn't cost an arm/leg and the size of the maverick is what size the ranger was SUPPOSED to be, but just like everything in America it got way to big. In price and in size

Purchased 2024 Santa Cruz SEL AWD and 2024 Maverick XL FWD Hybrid and love them both equally for their pros and cons. Paid 30k with discounts on Hyundai and paid 24500 with 2500 rebates snickered 27k on Maverick. Will I buy again? Sure. Had both 5.3 silverado and LM2 silverado and Taco. All has its good, bad and ugly. Get any you will appreciate its price tag. (Just don't get top trim which defeats the Purpose of getting cheaper truck)

The santa cruz drives more like a sports crossover, that also has a bed. Which is why I bought a Night edition. Gives me the sporty-ness but a little bit of utility to go with it. Coming from a compact car, this feels big enough for me. If I managed with a compact sedan, this is going to do me well. A city truck at its finest

I own an SC Premium (turbo), absolutely love it. Quick, nimble, unique look, and an open bed for my random messy homeowner tasks or hobbies.
That said, IMO the XRT and the boddy cladding accessories look ridiculous. Just walmart auto section glue on gimmicks.

They also have a 5 year, 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. That you can extend to 10 year, 100,000 miles. Ford doesn’t compete with what Hyundai offers.

The ridgeline defeats the purpose with it's price. I'd buy a ridgeline if it were cost for cost to a maverick hybrid just due to the proven reliability of honda vs a newer run of a ford.
