    Very interesting looking boat. And some great drone shots of the boat and the beautiful scenery from your h501. Cheers.

    Love to see small boats doing big trips. One day, I will be on similar trip. Thank you very much for sharing.

    Really love the view from the sky. You should do more of them sailing to show off your wonderful micro-cruiser!

      She's all tucked up for the winter. Hope to get some proper sailing shots next season.
      Best wishes.

      What drone are you using to take those beautiful shots? I was thinking of getting one myself for some trips I plan to take this Spring. Since space is limited aboard tiny cruisers, I was looking into the smaller drones that could possibly shoot 4k. Of course there is also the issue of charging up the lipo batteries, and I see that you had 2 large solar panels for the trip.

      I guess its the Hubsan 501.

    • @randoneur
      @randoneur  6 років тому

      @@davidbolduc828 Yes it was the 501. A very low budget quad and not really very good for video.
      If you have the money, DJI are still the best bet. The Spark is the smallest and cheapest, but only has about 10mins run time. The Mavic Air is a good compact foldable and would be my choice for a small boat. Of course there are plenty of alternatives at a much lower price point too.

    As usual, beautiful scenery and first class aerial video Pete. I'm saddened that I never took to the water during my earlier travels over there. Past it now but some fitter friends are headed for a canal holiday in the Old Dart, so I'll be able to enjoy it by proxy.
    Nice little tub. Size reminds me of the things we used to knock together from roofing iron in my younger days. ;-) Kids don't do that these days - resurgent croc population! :-D

    Wow! What a contrast to the places I sailed my Paradox. So beautiful Pete!! That was some stunning scenery. What kind of drone do yup use??

    Pretty boat and I noticed the little micro tugs very cool. Could I ask how many miles or kilometers a day you motored? The reason I thought when I retire it would be fun to buy a little boat and motor the canals. I bicycle toured over so many when I visited before. Do you need a permit or is the vessel registration enough? Thanks

    Why did you spend the first three minutes of the video too high or too far away from the sailboat to get a good look at it? You are real impressed with how high that drone can go but you should rename the video "Sightseeing on the Thames". What does this video have to do with the 21 days part of the title? It looks like it was all filmed in one day at the same place.

    I love the boat, have been a fan of Matt's stuff for many years, and the locations are very beautiful, but the fast pans, flips, and close flyovers of things, such as your own head, made it hard for me to keep watching the video. Less could really be more, in this case. Please consider restraining yourself a bit stylistically. Thanks.

      Indeed Tony. This was just a quick a edit of a few clips of video. In time I'll put together something a bit more descriptive, but that takes time and effort and the weather is too nice for that to happen at the moment :-)
      I'll get something together in the future however.
      This was my annual trip down the Thames from Lechlade to Pangbourne for the Beale Park boat show with 9 colleagues (this year) from the Home boat builders rabble.
      That was week one which I completed under human power. I then took 2 weeks to slowly work my way backup stream a gianst a river swollen by torrential thunderstorms on the first week. I had to resort to some help from an IC engine to make any progress. Sailing was fairly limited due to adverse or no wind...
      Total was only 140 miles.
      Cheers.

    God, I hate drones. You get one and all of the shots are drone shots from a mile high where you can't actually see the subject of the video. You know, a drone can film at eye level, too. One shot of the boat sailing, reused over and over. FFS.

    • @crawford323
      @crawford323 Рік тому

      As a life long professional still photographer, I like to think of my drone as a flying tripod. I use it to get to an elevation needed for the composition I want. So I tend to agree, as in any new popular technique, it is over used in many cases. The odd one I am noticing today is the cut to the speaker starring off into nothing. Just who in the heck are they talking to? I know why is they have two or more cameras recording and want that high tech look but are failing miserably. If your technique distracts from your message, you have failed.
