where can an artist find a basic contract in regards to this?

It is best to get a basic contract template that has been written in your own country. Depending on your country some music law firms or musicians' organisations might provide free contract templates. Good luck!

I am wondering as a new progrock label in the US. I pay for the mastering should i get the mastering royalty? If so how do i orchestrate that money coming in?

I'm a little unsure of your question. I think the words "mastering" and "masters" have been confused here maybe? Usually, paying for mastering does not result in receiving a share of master royalties. Generally, whoever funds the recording to be created (producer fee, studio costs etc) will own the master rights. However, depending on how you operate your label, you may already have ownership of the master rights, or at least have use of them on an agreed license? Most labels will at least collect (the master recording) income from the distributor, then take a share for themselves before paying the artist. Hope that answers your question.

@@theartistguides Thanks. you don't understand because I'm ignorant. One band I am signing, I am paying for the masters. They gave me stems only. Is there a royalty for the mastering or im I confusing terms. I will wtite the contract accordingly. If so how do register that fact. I know how to do lyric and song writing royalties.
