I am glad he mentioned that he and his Pitbulls would sometimes hunt bears. I have been telling people that the American Pitbull can and has been used for things like bear baiting and hunting bears throughout their history. Many don't know that, and others do not believe it. Even some people in the American Pitbull community did not know that, so it is good to hear from a well-known and respected figure and avid hunter saying how he would hunt bears with his Pitbulls.
I believe it. The American Pitbull Terrier is small but mighty. A very powerful and intelligent breed, perfectly capable of taking on big challenges due to its unwavering determination. Even if it's losing, it thinks it's winning if it's game bred. I do wonder though how Mr Parker used his pitbulls. If they were used as catch dogs or just to tree the bears? I live in northern Wisconsin where black bear population is extremely high.
@@eduardomurillo8318 Well said. They are in no way the largest dogs, but they are most certainly the most mighty. Strong, intelligent, tenacious, and unwavering in its pursuit of victory. While I do not know the specifics of the hunting of bears he took part in, I would imagine they were used as catch dogs based on the breed of dog he has, his love and preservation of gameness, and some of his descriptions of how he hunts other animals. American Pitbulls, especially game-bred ones, usually do not make for good bay dogs or tree dogs, because they tend to charge in full speed to latch onto another animal with no hesitation.
@@maddogsenglishmen8020 That does not appear to be the case. Very well-known and respected individuals such as Richard F. Stratton say that they were being used for bear baiting and bull baiting. But even if you were right and they were made after it was illegal, that does not mean that they never baited bulls and bears. That stuff still goes on to this day.

I don’t know why anyone would think more highly of the Hyde dogs than the Thibodeaux stuff. Mike Thibodeaux’ stuff showed to be deeply game. That Laid Back Jack stuff would quit on top.
@@arrowheadkennels Still I think the Hyde dogs were good especially as a catalyst. They produced Smith’s Reuben ROM, Cox’Lizzie , which ended up producing the Vise Grip dogs. Bear baiting was made illegal before the creation of the pitbull. The pitbulls ancestors did bull baiting but the pitbull never did bull baiting
