  • Yep, it's a drag knife made of scraps...
    I just wanted to see whether a misfit writing machine could be transformed into a CNC Drag Knife Cutter.
    It isn't perfect, but it will get the job done.
    In this video, I've also included a Fusion 360 tutorial on creating G codes for the cutting operation.

    Nice idea. Did I miss it or I am wrong to think the the tip of the blade should be align with the axis of rotation ?

      Actually, it should be kept a bit offset from the axis of rotation. As a result of this offset, the blade will remain pointed at a tangent to the direction of motion.

    great idea ...thank you ...did you test it for other materials? also i saw that it kept small pieces not cut ...is that normal or there is a solution for that?

      As you can see, the CNC is made out of printer parts. Thus, the undercuts are caused by axis deflections as it isn't sturdy enough to support them. It wouldn't be an issue for a rigid CNC machine.
