This is how you play guitar when you have something to say and you're over the grandstanding. So understated and succinct, but with immense feeling. We're lucky to have this video, we were lucky to have him as long as we did.
I go numb each time i listen to him . Fucking brilliant sound ... 64th best guitarist of all time ??!? Fuck the Rolling Stone magazine . He might be in the top 5 , and to me he'll stay the best . Nearly 25 years ago that you left us . RIP Mick , angels can only go to paradise .
God bless Mick Ronson and Roy Buchanan. I think this may be Mick's tribute to the master of the Telecaster... RIP to both and thanks for the legacies and inspiration you've left us
He played that Telegram for many years. I don't know why he switched from the Les Paul. I thought maybe when he became sick he liked the lighter weight. But he was playing it before he knew he had cancer. You must have seen him playing it at least one other time. The Freddie Mercury Tribute concert with Bowie and Ian.
Mick brings this haunting, luminous vision to us with such grace and restraint here. It's as if he knew all the right notes before he even played the song. This is what a master does -- powerful, delicate and beautiful.
I saw them the night before this show at the Living Room in Providence. I sat on the edge of the stage in front of Mick's amp all night. I couldn't hear right for two days, but it was so worth it! Happy Birthday Sweet Dreamer. I miss you.
One of the greatest guitarist of all time and my favorite. Ronno just nails it ever time and plays with such sensitivity and precision it's beautiful beyond anything in Rock. I think he was a genius also for his string arrangements and Bowie never would've achieved such success without him. RIP
absolutely one of the best guitarists of his generation, he probably had 30 more years left of showing off his string talent but cancer took him away too soon.
i'm too damn old to be here too replying to youtube comments. but this is brilliant, and to me, the smokey, noisy bar adds to the poignancy of the song and takes me back to those times far more so than would a room full of die hard fans who all go ga-ga in unison. thanks for posting!
So heartwarming to see all the love for Ronno! I love Hunter and Bowie, but I believe that Ronno elevated both of them and brought out the best in both of them. Incredibly talented man; I was fortunate enough to have seen him with Ian in 1981. Easily one of the greatest shows I ever saw.
God damn - that man could play !!! Bowie didn’t make many mistakes over the years - but cutting loose from Mick after the Ziggy years, was a criminal blunder.
I always loved Mick Ronson from the moment I first saw him and heard him play on the Midnight special so many years ago. I read some of the comments one asking who is Mick Ronson? He is the man who made David Bowie. A musical genius who never knew just how good he really was. Thank you Ronno for all the great music you gave me growing up. We miss you.sweet dreams Ronno.
RONSON. I've been waiting to see this on UA-cam forever. Thanks for posting! I'd need a whole blog just to rave about my fave. Understated and magnificent.
THANKS for posting. I also have been looking for a video of this song. I'll never get tired of it. It was our song at our wedding dance. Ronno was the best.
This tribute to Roy Buchanan, or flattering take on Sweet Dreams, is just amazing. I would like to mace all the people chatting it up while greatness is staring them in the face. Nonetheless, it is just beautiful.
@yuccaflats10 Indeed Yuccaflats ... Mick wrote some of the most beautiful and origianlly melodic Guitar Solos EVER Recorded ... "The Outsider" ... "Slaughter on 10th Avenue" ... "All The Young Dudes" ... and the list just goes on and on over decades of Legendary Music ... I Love You Mick ... You are ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREATEST EVER ...
Were you really? That was a fantastic show. I actually found a bootleg cassette in a local record shop after the show. A pretty good quality room recording. What a pleasure to meet them, especially Mick who was positively glowing!
Thanks for uploading this my friend... I saw Ronno play many many times when he lived in hull ....The rats always seemed to be playing somewhere around.....and all us muso, s new each other......friendly rivalry...although ronno was head and shoulders above the rest of us.....
Roy Beauchanan was a chops bluesman and that was that...it ain't a competition but, Mick Ronson was a composer and arranger who invented and moved his way through changes that Roy just Couldn't imagine. Roy influenced Jeff>Jeff influenced Mick>All masters in their own right. Sport is a competition, music is a language. gedditt?
Respond to this video... ... continued: asked to leave by a big guy, but we were having none of it, we watched him go back thru, and then slipped up the foyer stairs to the circle, and he played "Sweet Dreams" to the two of us sitting in the dark, so we were the first two people (apart from crew etc.) in the UK to hear it played live, or hear it at all, because the album wasn't out. Magic. We met them a couple of years later at the Octagon Theater, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England '89
On three occasions I stood 6 feet in front of him and watched him play, it was just gorgeous, but the one before those three times was the most intimate, because, when he and Ian played at the Dominion Theater London, for the first of the "YUIORTA" gigs, myself and my friend, went down to the theater in the afternoon to see if anything was happening, and boy it was, they were sound checking the whole set, we tried getting inside the straight up way, but were promptly asked to leave by a big guy,
What a Master. And if Mr Iggy Pop who called me a Fu**in degenerative at a club he played in San Diego around 1980 . And just because I took one too many Lemon 714's and was trying to grab his leg at the front of the stage. I thought that was ok at an Iggy Pop show. Anyway, if Iggy says Mick made the guitar cry then you better believe he was pretty damn good,!!
In total agreement with nearly all of the comments (below); punched in so many 'thumbs up'...they're making me wait a while before I do the rest! Who is Mick Ronson? As WhiteBoy41put it (8 months ago): "Just listen." Then...read the comments. Who, indeed! Well loved and remembered: deservedly so.
This is how you play guitar when you have something to say and you're over the grandstanding. So understated and succinct, but with immense feeling. We're lucky to have this video, we were lucky to have him as long as we did.
Ronno never ever ever received the credit for what he achieved. A humble man.
My hands down favorite guitarist!! What a horrible loss.
God bless Mick Ronson and Roy Buchanan. I think this may be Mick's tribute to the master of the Telecaster...
RIP to both and thanks for the legacies and inspiration you've left us
this is the only time I saw him with Tele
He played that Telegram for many years. I don't know why he switched from the Les Paul. I thought maybe when he became sick he liked the lighter weight. Mick and Roy were two great guitar players Stevie ray was great also.

Incredible. He's sooo underrated.. this solo is up there with Beck, Clapton etc.
this makes me happy and sad at the same time
One of the greatest guitarist of all time and my favorite. Ronno just nails it ever time and plays with such sensitivity and precision it's beautiful beyond anything in Rock. I think he was a genius also for his string arrangements and Bowie never would've achieved such success without him. RIP
Absolutely correct David Bowie should have stuck up for his bandmate
He made Bowie. I truly believe if Mick Ronson was not on the early Bowie albums...there might not be a David Bowie.
absolutely one of the best guitarists of his generation, he probably had 30 more years left of showing off his string talent but cancer took him away too soon.
My God - Mick Ronson, what can you say... Just so wonderful, an understated genius. And a nice human being. God bless you Mick...
THIS is why I love Ronno's playing so much. The real deal.
wow, it's amazing to hear mick ronson pay tribute to roy buchanan like this... very moving...
i'm too damn old to be here too replying to youtube comments. but this is brilliant, and to me, the smokey, noisy bar adds to the poignancy of the song and takes me back to those times far more so than would a room full of die hard fans who all go ga-ga in unison. thanks for posting!

This tribute to Roy Buchanan, or flattering take on Sweet Dreams, is just amazing. I would like to mace all the people chatting it up while greatness is staring them in the face. Nonetheless, it is just beautiful.
Now he,s with Roy another guitarist who does not get any respect. But the English guitar players knew who Roy was for sure Beck loved him also.

Mick was as good as Roy and Jeff in his own way .
Easily. And thanks for posting this.
who is mick ronson
This puts me to sleep!!! Have you never heard of Roy Buchannan????????
Could be the equal of David Gilmore.
Hey, yucca, in his own way Mick was better than Roy and Jeff!!!
Amateur night. What time did the karaoke start ?
If people without any kind of humour try to be funny they create statements like this
Transfixed before I was a teenager. His Guitar would help me to sleep on Spiders from Mars.
Makes me cry
