Yes, you can use 3-4 tabs easily along with microsoft word without any hanging. I am using Office 2013 along with 3 tabs in Chrome in video as well I guess. Also, opting out of S mode is easy as pie.
This is good for tally purpose and MS office excel.
Bro, I did some practical experiments on how to make tally work faster, better and less time consuming and results are as follows:
1. Clock speed - main culprit:
Tally is a CPU intensive single core data processing application -meaning while loading tally data files, software will try to utilize full potential of CPU GHZ, if your CPU clock rate is 1GHZ it will use full 1GHZ, or if its 4GHZ it will use 4GHZ,
so given a choice always check computer CPU clock speed, if you have alternative or choice then work tally in CPUs which have more clock speed in GHZ
2. Number of Cores - doesn’t matter:
Tally is single core processor - meaning, no matter how may cores a system has, tally software is written in such a way that it is usally works with single core.
e.g. Tally inventory 5000 line items will load faster in i3 processor (it has 2 cores) with 3.2Ghz than core i7 (it has 8 cores) with 2.5ghz.
3. Type of hard disk- not a decisive factor:
Type of hard disk is not a bottleneck for tally processing- meaning irrespective whether the hard disk is HDD(max speed 150mbps), SSD(max speed 600mbps), or NVME (max speed 4000mbps), it will not affect tally processing, although tally application may open quickly in SSD/NVME than HDD, but difference is less than a minute.
4. RAM - crucial bottleneck:
RAM is a crucial bottleneck if you have multiple tally files to open, say FY 2015-16, FY 2016-17, FY 2017-18 in same tally then you need definitely more than 4GB RAM, else this type of error will come
“RUN OUT OF MEMORY”
Also using tally with other applications slows tally processing speed as all applications share the RAM including Windows OS. Hence if you have limited RAM of 4GB ensure unwanted applications are closed.
Although using tally along with Excel or Word won’t affect but if you want to use a browser along with tally use Firefox or Internet explorer, don't use Google Chrome Brower it consumes more RAM than Mozilla and Internet explorer.
Also don't open unwanted multiple tabs in a browser, it also occupies more RAM. So 8GB to 12GB of RAM is must for tally to run smooth.
5. Laptop vs Desktop ?
Tally loads in desktop faster than laptop - reason laptops are tuned for optimal battery usage, so normally they consume less power than desktop.
So desktop processors generally have a uniform clock speed, where as laptops now-a-days have 2 clock speeds - base speed which will be between 1.2Ghz and 2Ghz, and Turbo speed which may vary from 2.7Ghz to 4.2Ghz.
Also when laptop runs in a battery it will mostly operate in lower base frequency to consume less power thereby decrease its efficiency, so given a choice of preference:
Preference 1. run tally in a desktop
Preference 2. run tally in a laptop plugged with power on (not on battery alone)
Conclusion based on my experiments
For best tally usage ensure the following:
1. CPU -any processor with good clock speed of 2GHZ and above (irrespective of Intel Corei3, Core i5, Core i7, or AMD Ryzen 3,5,7)
Don’t go below Intel-Core i3, or below AMD A12, as they lack in memory latency speed
2. RAM -8GB RAM minimum (4GB you will fee slow if along with tally you open keep chrome, excel etc)
3. If you use in a laptop ensure it is plugged into power cause some laptops have 2 modes and optimize it to work in turbo frequency rather than in base frequency.
