I remember hearing a story about President Reagan and Speaker Tip O'Neill would sit down for a drink after 5pm when deals and compromise needed a little push in the right ( or left, lol!) direction. Spending on social programs was a target of the administration and the GOP wanted cuts. Social Security was the biggest target for cuts along with welfare programs. Apparently O'Neill pulled the Irish card while sharing a couple glasses of whiskey with the President and alluded to all the Irish grandparents that came to America and needed Social Security to put food on the table. I'm not sure if I have the minutiae exact but I going to find were this story came from. Could be from a book by Chris Matthews.
Chastising her for not standing up seems like a pure power move to put her in her place. But that is not it. He exposed her hypocrisy first by pointing out that she arbitrarily chooses biblical laws that people should abide to. And then by showing that she herself has no respect for customs and traditions.

He reduced his disciples to stealing and eating raw grain on the Shabbat because he refused to make any preparation for them-- yet claimed he was righteous and observant..then deflected the concerns into a libel-fest wherein he couldn't even get the facts of the bible right. He demanded that anyone who objected to him be brought before him and killed. He instituted the sin of thought crimes (wherein if you think it it's as good as doing it, which is totally asinine!! It's like jeffreyschoenberg said. Sam stealing the crab puff is significant in TWO ways. First, Leviticus 11:10 indicates that shellfish are an "abomination", so Sam's action in effect continues the President's argument. Second, if you know the entire episode, Sam was looking forward to attending the event because he knew those crab puffs were going to be served and they were one of his favorites. @Eric EH So in the comments on a video clearly and correctly pointing out the bloodthirsty Bronze Age barbarism of the Bible, you choose to proclaim your support of said book, instead of hanging your head in shame..... Interesting..
@Eric EH "what exactly do you believe?" Well, from context I assume you mean in regards to the existence of god(s). I do not believe in god(s). "I know God is real" No, you do not. You _believe_ God (I assume you mean Yahweh - the Christian god, out of the thousands that has been said to exist throughout human history) is real. There is quite a big difference between knowing something and believing something. Beliefs are dime-a-dozen. Knowledge is a sub-set of belief, often described as justified true belief (and by true, I mean in accordance with reality). "I know the bible is true" No, you do not. See above. "I suggest you believe" Thank you. I'll take your suggestion under consideration. "but only God can reveal this stuff to you" OK.
@Eric EH "I know it's true" No, you do not. You _believe_ it is true, and I accept and acknowledge that it is a sincere and heartfelt belief. You really should learn the difference between knowing and believing, and how beliefs doesn't "become knowledge" just because you believe a whole lot. As an aside, you really shouldn't present "arguments", that you yourself don't find convincing. I am confident in guessing, that you don't find a similar "argument" persuasive, if a member of another religion says; "I know the Bhagavad Gita is true", for example. "hell is real" Yes, that belief is indeed part of most Christian orthodoxy. It doesn't tell you if it is actually real or not. "Most people go to hell" Yet another fundamental part of Christian orthodoxy - with the exact same issues. "Jesus died for sins" Same issue as above. Having entertained your little distraction, I'll bring us back to the original point; that of you supporting the bloodthirsty Bronze Age barbarism presented in the Bible. You see, it doesn't matter if it is real or not. Whether it is fiction or fact - it is still heinous inhuman practices, that civilised modern society has roundly rejected. The very fundamental pillars of Christianity are rejected as profound nonsense.
There was no point. Well, no relevant point anyway. In Christianity the sacrifice Jesus made fulfilled all obligations of and purposes for ceremonial law, there is no longer any reason to live under that law and avoid shellfish, etc, etc. In contrast moral law never changes, even if the Bible teaches us that how that applies in the life of a believer is different post crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. This has been commonly understood Christian theology for literally 2,000 years. All the screenwriters and director managed here was to prove that they know absolutely nothing about Christianity. This is an echo chamber of ignorance; nothing more and nothing less.

The scene from The West Wing is often cited as a "mic drop" moment against Christian beliefs regarding homosexuality. However, while it is a well-scripted piece of television drama, it is ultimately based on misrepresentations, logical fallacies, and theological errors. First, this is a scripted exchange between actors, not a real discussion between a knowledgeable Christian and a skeptical president. The person playing Dr. Jacobs is not presenting an actual Christian argument; she is simply reciting the lines given to her. That means this "debate" is rigged from the start. No real theologian, pastor, or biblical scholar would be caught off guard by these questions, as they have been answered for centuries. Bartlet’s argument is built on a category error fallacy-a misunderstanding of how Old Testament laws function. Leviticus 18:22 does not say that “homosexuality is an abomination.” Rather, it condemns homosexual acts (specifically, sexual relations between men). This distinction is critical because the Bible makes a clear difference between temptation (which is not a sin) and action (which can be sinful). Further, Bartlet wrongly assumes that all Old Testament laws are equally binding today. This is a straw man fallacy because no serious Christian theologian claims that all Levitical laws still apply under the New Covenant. The Old Testament contains three types of laws. 1) Moral laws, which reflect God's unchanging nature (e.g., prohibitions against murder and adultery). 2) Civil laws, which governed ancient Israel as a theocratic nation (e.g., regulations on slavery and punishments for Sabbath-breaking). 3) Ceremonial laws, which involved rituals for Israel's worship (e.g., sacrifices and dietary laws). Christians believe that Jesus fulfilled the law (Matthew 5:17) and that while the moral law remains (as confirmed in the New Testament), civil and ceremonial laws no longer apply to Christians (Colossians 2:16-17, Hebrews 8:13). By lumping together laws about slavery, Sabbath punishments, and dietary rules with moral prohibitions, the scene commits a false equivalence fallacy-treating distinct categories as if they are the same. Bartlet’s question about selling his daughter into slavery (Exodus 21:7) is another straw man argument because biblical servitude was vastly different from the race-based chattel slavery practiced in America. In biblical times, servitude was often a form of debt repayment and had built-in protections (Exodus 21:2-11, Deuteronomy 15:12-18). Furthermore, the Bible prohibits kidnapping and slave trading (Exodus 21:16, 1 Timothy 1:10). Christians do not follow Old Testament civil laws because we are not ancient Israel. Instead, we recognize that Scripture progressively reveals God's moral will, culminating in Christ, who teaches the equal dignity of all people (Galatians 3:28, Philemon 1:16). Bartlet’s claim that Exodus 35:2 requires him to kill his chief of staff for working on the Sabbath again misapplies the Old Covenant to Christians. The Sabbath was a covenant sign between God and Israel (Exodus 31:13-17). Under the New Covenant, Jesus declared Himself Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:27-28), and Paul explicitly states that Christians are not bound to Old Testament Sabbath laws (Colossians 2:16).

@Eric EH Funny putting the words "hell" + "reality" next to each other. The days of using religion and the bible to scare, intimidate and terrorize people are coming to an end.
It is a constant source of amazement to me how people can apply the most rigorous logic in the day to day execution of their jobs and domestic life but come Friday in the mosque, Saturday in the synagogue or Sunday in the church they listen to and believe in the most irrational ridiculous nonsense.
@Eric EH My intention here is only to help inform and not to fan any flames. Just wanted to add to this thread that the Bible has overwhelming evidence AGAINST the existence of a realm of eternal suffering. If you believe the Bible to be the truth, then for you it flat out proves there is no Hell. One of the simplest evidences comes from John 3:16. "Whoever believes in Him will not PERISH, but have eternal LIFE." Either you cease to exist or you live forever in peace and joy. There is no option for being tortured forever. What kind of God of love would even allow that? When you get to know God's character of love, you come to an understanding that the idea of a Hell is absurd.
@Eric EH The Bible says that the lake of fire “means the second death.” (Revelation 20:14; 21:8) If you're going to argue for the existence of a place of eternal suffering, you're going to need more than an elementary knowledge of the Bible to make your case. Ironically, the more you learn the Bible, the more you'd realize it does not support your views of Hell at all.
@Eric EH Your arguments are so incredibly weak. How old are you? You haven't backed up anything you've said. For anyone who reads any comments you've made here, you've given them absolutely every reason to believe you have no idea what you're talking about. You remind me of the social justice movement. Correct, of what exactly NOT to do if your president. What he did is basically attack an American for their religion with the media in clear view. Doesn't matter if its backwards. Indeed and how dare people, of any faith, claim a moral superiority simply because they have a book which they claim reveals the truth (...about them).
@Eric EH What arrogance. You can assert your faith or belief and encourage others in that belief ( and by the way what does the assertion "Jesus is true" actually mean in this context ?) but that does not give you the right to force others to do the same. Your exhortation just repels others and displays none of the humility which seems to be one of Jesus' traits.
@Eric EH Yes sheer arrogance and you have just repeated it. You may believe it but it is arrogant to think you have a monopoly on truth or to baldly state "Jesus is true". Show some intelligence and humility. And by the way where does hell appear in the New Testament ?

Apparently O'Neill pulled the Irish card while sharing a couple glasses of whiskey with the President and alluded to all the Irish grandparents that came to America and needed Social Security to put food on the table. It was actually a condemnation of straying to far into the practices of the Roman's and Greeks who regularly "lay with boys"....it was changed from the most accurate translation in 1947, in order to apply to effeminate men(implying they were gay) instead of the predatory men in charge of the regions the Hebrews emigrated through and to.

Interesting..
@Eric EH
"what exactly do you believe?"
Well, from context I assume you mean in regards to the existence of god(s).
I do not believe in god(s).
"I know God is real"
No, you do not.
"I know the bible is true"
No, you do not. See above.
"I suggest you believe"
Thank you. I'll take your suggestion under consideration.
"but only God can reveal this stuff to you"
OK.
@Eric EH
"I know it's true"
No, you do not.
"hell is real"
Yes, that belief is indeed part of most Christian orthodoxy. It doesn't tell you if it is actually real or not.
"Most people go to hell"
Yet another fundamental part of Christian orthodoxy - with the exact same issues.
"Jesus died for sins"
Same issue as above.

There was no point. Well, no relevant point anyway.

You still lose.
@ well, you comment is a logical fallacy.

It is a constant source of amazement to me how people can apply the most rigorous logic in the day to day execution of their jobs and domestic life but come Friday in the mosque, Saturday in the synagogue or Sunday in the church they listen to and believe in the most irrational ridiculous nonsense.
@Eric EH I'll go with hell, all the interesting people will be there
@@pieisdeath30 Now that was damn funny! Good one
"Whoever believes in Him will not PERISH, but have eternal LIFE."
Either you cease to exist or you live forever in peace and joy. There is no option for being tortured forever.
What kind of God of love would even allow that? When you get to know God's character of love, you come to an understanding that the idea of a Hell is absurd.
@Eric EH The Bible says that the lake of fire “means the second death.” (Revelation 20:14; 21:8)
If you're going to argue for the existence of a place of eternal suffering, you're going to need more than an elementary knowledge of the Bible to make your case.
Just scream at the truth until you get your way! lol
This should be played in every school, every year, every grade.
Correct, of what exactly NOT to do if your president. What he did is basically attack an American for their religion with the media in clear view. Doesn't matter if its backwards. He's an elected official meant to represent ALL Americans, and if the media was half as vicious toward Democratic presidents as they are Republican ones, his ass would have been chewed up and shat out and deceivingly so for this behaviour.
Kind of like Dr. Jill Biden? She's not an m.d. but liberals treat her like she is. You do have a point though titles are worthless. So the left needs to stop their uneducated hypocrisy
@@AgentExeider Except that he didn't attack her for being a christian. You didn't get the point of this scene.
@@AgentExeider There is a difference between being religious and being a Bible-thumper.
Joe Biden is a religious person. People like those from Westboro are Bible-thumpers
I can just see Sister Mary Evangelis showing this to a stunned senior class!
This never gets old - 'ignorant tight ass club'
The greatest political show ever made even with house of cards taken into consideration
I love how he points out the utter ridiculousness of using the "Ancient Book of Fairy Tales" to claim moral righteousness. If you have to cherry pick only the bits that suit you, it is worthless.
Indeed and how dare people, of any faith, claim a moral superiority simply because they have a book which they claim reveals the truth (...about them).
@Eric EH Evening Eric - hope you're keeping well!
@@AGMundy I think the only moral superiority being shown right now isn’t coming from traditional religious zealots.
Now...
After Christopher Walken and The Dead Zone, who would make this guy president again!!?? :)
LOL
@@trevormoses5061 Lol idd.
He grubbed some tiger blood off his son and WINNING
I would vote for him.........
He would be arguing with Marjorie for another hour until security drug her out of the building.
That scene was absolute perfection. Writing and delivery could not have been improved. It made the point extremely well.
Great !!!!!!
*I would VOTE for THAT MAN !!!*
damn shame theres not politicians like that so often irl
She makes herself the target whether it’s deliberate or not deliberate and gets served the way she should.
Rubbish.
@@j-mshistorycorner6932 Nah, you "get it" where you give it.
If the character were protrayed as a muslim, not a word would have been said. It would be most uncomfortable to point out that their koran says the same things on all those matters.
@@johnmagill9496 You realize the show did criticize Saudi Arabia, and islamic fanaticism in the episode called Women of Qmar, right? This scene has nothing to do with the woman's faith, witch btw is not mentioned once, and the real person that inspired the scene is a conservative jew. Tldr; your troll kungfu is pretty weak.
@@MalakianM2S And look who showed up. The scene clearly was aimed at making Christians look bad because they're Christian. Because in Hollywood that is done for sport. The fine people who showed up in the comment section to bash Christians seem to give my comment validation.
Again, this would NEVER be put toward muslims, not even what some people call radical muslims.
Imagine our department of education is like this lady?
Uh, oh !!!! Wait ! Our next president
Not even Satan has enough hellfire for a burn THAT size.
Never seen an episode of the West Wing, but after seeing this am going to search for it. Hope it lives up to this clip. Simply wonderful.
Oh My. 7 series later you gonna realise that it was just pure brilliance
Try Netflix
@@sarahgolden2062 It just left Netflix yesterday :( Haven't heard yet if another has picked it up. Hope so!
@@NJinHB I believe HBO Max has it now.
Don't think you'll be disappointed - it was a great series!!!
Oh. To have a leader like that would be great. This has got to be one of the best scenes ever.!!!!
✋️ Can we get HIM as president.
Bernie was him. Now he is too old
I love the sound of the cameras taking pictures. The evening newscasts and morning papers probably had a field day with this
