These questions on everyone's mind these days, but few seem to have clear answers.
Meghnad S, a city boy with no idea about farming, is curious and has a lot of questions. Accompanied by friend, philosopher, guide, and crack journalist Nidhi Suresh, he ventures deep into the #farmerprotest at #Singhu on Delhi's border to find some answers.
They walk around the seemingly endless protest site, a highway blocked by tractors and vehicles as far as the eye can see, and talk to the farmers to get some perspective on the whole thing.

@@nic_7130 Brother see, there is no well-established way to protest. Why would farmers want to block the roads? It is symbolic to tell their govt and fellow citizens that they are not satisfied with the provisions. That's how its done.

The langar system is my favourite thing about the sikh religion, the fact that anyone can eat without any cost is awesome.
Recently I was in France for my education and on a weekend we decided to go to a gurudwara, a place where eating outside was really expensive and as students we couldn't afford it, it was really heartwarming to go there and be fed for free.
It makes you feel as though no matter what happens, I have a place where I'll get a meal.

It's not just about MSP and the fact that corporates can provide better storage, that'll help them to store essential food items infinitely, that helps them to create artificial dearth of essential commodities...and many more

6% farmers benefit from MSP... Mainly Haryana/Punjab... They have the mandis... Bihar/Up abolished their Mandis in 2005-6.. now compare the rates of same wheat now 14yrs later... That same wheat is 1800rs+ per quintal in Punjab/Haryana while the farmers of Up/Bihar don't have a fixed price and they're forced to sell it on extremely low prices....
This whole architecture is the sole reason that the farmers of Punjab/Haryana are the most prosperous in this country...they are Protected by the system.

Whereas in mandis once they manage to close government mandis.... They will start giving lower prices.... Whatever they wanna give they will and farmers will have no option other than that! Also they will have allowance to store as much as they want! So prices can be controlled by them to avoid other competitors from entering and consumers will also get higher prices and food is must for everyone and we have no other choice

I predicted in start of this protest that once khalsa aid comes to farmers, there is no turning back. There is lot of NRIs that want to help their fellow punjabis but couldn't just bcoz they didnt have any reliable or direct contact on farmer protesters. Khalsa aid provides a reliable platform to donate. By god's grace the sheer amount of money punjabis have worldwide is monumental. Also the giving nature of punjabis can run this game for years. We are sorry if delhi's dilwale are having issue coz of us. Please trust us, its for a greater good. The state that has 2% population gives 50% wheat. Other produce aside. We dont need your help. Just your patience.

NGOs are being targeted by the government for this very reason. They don't want any opposition. They drove our amnesty international, so what they will do with other NGOs perceived as being anti government is anybodys guess.

I came across this video this morning. Firstly I wanna thank you for covering the protest in what so ever manner you could. There were some ass holes who tried to mock and defame the farmers in his recent video named as AGRO FARM BILLS where he only showed those farmers who were not able to explain the new farm laws but they were there to support their farmers brothers. Thank you so much for showing the real image of protest and supporting our farmers.
There is a bond of trust between the farmers and the middlemen.

I guess "middle men" needs to be defined better. Arhtiyas come into picture with 2 % commission within the MSP. ie if wheat is being produced at 18 a kg, arhtiyas comes into picture within that 18. Now if that 18 becomes 50 in the retail market, its the wholesaler, retailer etc who are major middlemen. Trying to eliminate an arhtiya who is also a micro-financer is targeting wrong person. If you want to target, it should be 18-50 difference. Those people will be increasingly in urban areas, who are not even aware right now about whats happening. Adani is going to eat that margin, he doesnt care about 2% of the Arhtiya.

From pakistan 🇵🇰 here, and i came here from a WhatsApp video and a few AlJazeera videos. For the record, these weren't dumb questions, they were actually both intelligently asked and answered. The video turned out really informative and insightful, Give yourselves a little more credit newslaundry. Hundreds of miles ahead of what (& how) local (Indian) media channels are reporting. It was also really nice to see how the farmers are demonstrating that no one should go hungry or thirsty in the spirit of caring for one another (humanity).
