My grandma was emphatically not a cooking enthusiast. She was the first female chartered accountant in her country (according to her xD) and she generally left the cooking to my grandfather. However, on special occasions she always made this fantastic coleslaw, and now whenever I eat coleslaw I remember her. Rip Mama I love you
Babcia's gołąbki is something that you just cannot replace, no matter how hard you try. Just the canteen one's aren't as good. I'm sure the secret ingreedient is love ❤
My Mom made lime jello with shredded carrot mixed in. Then served it with a scoop of mayo on top. Ugh. My Nana also made golabki! She was Polish too. Thanks for the memories!
HA! Love this! I remember some type of jello "salad" with canned fruit and I only ever remember all of those jello things being green. My fave weird thing from that era (60's really) was "ambrosia salad" which was canned fruit with coconut and mayo and probably lots of sugar. My comfort food is a fried egg sandwich with mayo and catsup (on toast).
I just got flashbacks of my grandma's jello recipe with chunks of meat. I don't even remember what kind of meat because I was little when I tried it and I never ate it again, but I remember that it was terrible. She was an excellent cook though and my family particularly loved that jello dish, it's just that I don't like cold meat and the jello part just made it worse imo so I would just eat salad and potatoes or whatever else she made beside that lol. I don't know if I would dare try 1950s food, you're brave for trying those weird salads! 😂
I got so excited for you when the walnuts came out exactly right without measuring before hand! That's one of life's most satisfying accidents in my opinion. Also, lasagna always makes me think of my grandmother. It was the only thing she ever made that tasted nice. Once she made me a ham sandwich on white bread with nothing but ham and ketchup. That was 20 years ago and I haven't gotten over it. And congratulations on your jello actually setting! I have tried making jello before, and it's not for the faint of heart. Great video this week! 💕
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed 😊 and thank you for sharing those memories! My grandma was a great cook, but she served bologna with ketchup and white bread from time to time too 😆
Try this, mom made it for Church dinners. One small Lime jello reg. One reg size Cottage cheese . Reg kind. One reg size crushed pineapple Very well drained. One tablespoon of mannaise.. Stir real good put in icebox to Chill. Very easy and good to. Mom was all for easy. She Hated cooking.
You're part Polish? That's super interesting hahaha, people always tell me I look Polish (I'm not) but it kinda makes sense I guess since we're look-a-likes! How weird lol. Also, sadly I don't have many cooking memories from my grandma since she died when I was 7. The only dish she made I remember eating is * something * with currypowder in it... 😂🙄 My dad told me she was so excited to have grandchildren to spoil, but she only got to meet one of them and I have very little memories of her :( She died really young (53) I would have loved to know her because we have so much in common :( R.I.P. grandma ❤ On the other hand, my grandpa always made a really nice rice dish with canned apricots and green beans, I should ask the recipe some day soon! Canned apricots always make me think of him :) hahaha
I can totally see how you get Polish! Thank you for sharing, I so wish your grandma could have been a bigger part of your life 💚 but our ancestors live on through us even if we don't know it. And so happy your grandpa was there to give you all the love (and food) you deserve! The only thing my grandpa would make would be challah bread. All these talks of memories and food are making me hungry 💚
This is absolutely wonderful, I think jello mold salads are so much fun- I’m a fan of vintage foods
Thank you so much! There's just something about vintage foods, like a window back in time 💚

Wow she sounds amazing! Thank you for sharing your memories 💚
I really love those weird mid century recepies :)
There's just something about them! I am entranced 😆
I shivered in horror watching you eat that haha
I'm told I have that effect on people 😌😆
I don’t want to discuss my hello endeavor. *shivers in fear of lime jello seafood salad*
You're braver than I am Stephanie! I haven't braved the meat combinations yet 😆
Babcia's gołąbki is something that you just cannot replace, no matter how hard you try. Just the canteen one's aren't as good. I'm sure the secret ingreedient is love ❤
It absolutely is 💚 what I wouldn't give to have one of her homemade ones again!
My Mom made lime jello with shredded carrot mixed in. Then served it with a scoop of mayo on top. Ugh. My Nana also made golabki! She was Polish too. Thanks for the memories!
Mayo just slapped on top sounds almost as bad as it mixed in! 😆 Thank you so much for sharing your sweet memories!

That's my favourite way to have my eggs too! So rich and tasty 💚 so glad you enjoyed!
Of all the dishes Golobki (Gawumpki) was always my favorite without a doubt. And walnut is my favorite wood. So you were batting 1000% today. :)
I took the crooked candles down in the background just for you too 😆
Wow! That's a...thing. Haha I love these vintage recipe videos 🍮

I'm not brave enough to try a meat based jello...yet! Maybe I'll muster up the courage one day 😆

I have a jello mould and now I don't want to make this... but I want to make jello. Thanks for sacrificing yourself 😅
I actually bought some extra (normal) jello, I think I'm gonna make it this weekend! Will be nice to have some that I know will taste great 😆
Well, this one looked better than the last one 😂
Also yes! Gołąbki are the best 🐦
I must admit I'm craving them now after talking about them! Maybe I can see if I can find my grandma's recipe 💚
@@SalindaNichols That would be good future video! I've never heard of Golabki. It would be interesting to learn more about the dish.
@@maygen8Drenee that could be a fun video! I'll give it a think for sure 💚
Haha I love the name disaster kitchen! Can't wait for the next video...
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed 💙

Hovering the outside! 😂
Maybe without the mayonnaise and the cottage cheese like you mentioned early in the video? I dunno about how that final texture looks 😂
Yes I think it would have been actually great without those! 😆 Maybe next time
Two things that should NEVER combine, jello and mayonnaise! 🤢🤮

Haha, I like a lot of things from the 50's but their food is definitely not one of them!
The dessert recipes aren't the worst! But it's hard to mess up cake too badly 😆
