FINAL FANTASY XIV © 2010-2021 SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD. All Rights Reserved.
You now have an honorary FFXIV degree, make sure to put it on your resume and tell 'em I sent ya
Much love Brother!
I too proudly graduated from the University of Larryzaur.
The fighting Larrycorns!
God, I miss flash and this makes me feel so old. (playing since 2.0)
thank you larry-sensei very cool 👍🏻
Awesome. With this and Samurai on my resume I'm sure to land the job! Thanks Larry!
One old FF14 thing that comes to mind is the fact that when Glamour was originally added, you needed very specific glamour prisms depending on the type of gear. So like, if I wanted to glamour a robe I would need a top piece prism of weaving.
EVEN WORSE
They came in Grades, so if you wanted to glamor a robe you needed a Grade 1 glamour prism of weaving. Or if it was higher level, a Grade 3... trying to glam out my character sucked. Running to the mb for a specific glamour prism just to wear glassez
I still have an older prism! Sitting in my pockets and never traded in.
That's why I'm confused when do glamor at first because there is a vendor in mor dhona that trade each grade of prism while prism that I got has no grade
Unless they changed it very early on, there was never a "top piece prism of weaving." There were just 5 grades of prism per crafter (except cul, which doesn't craft gear), and what prism you needed to use would depend on what crafter crafted the gear you were trying to use as glamour and....I can't remember if it was level or item level now.
Ooooohhh, so THAT'S why I've seen like different colour glamour prisms being sold by NPC's. Always wondered wtf they were for
My favourite history lesson is in 1.0 there was an anthropologist in Ul'dah who told you stuff about the different races. And they specifically stated that Lalafell were 'surprisingly well endowed'.
Why is that information Square thought we needed? 🤣
My favorite 1.0 lore is the tree that had a higher poly count than ever other model in the game by a longshot.
Do you remember any of the other stuff he said about races? That actually sounds super interesting.
@@DualEdgest Wait.. was this better or worse than the dreaded flowerpots?
I just remember the cursed Materia system that nobody wanted to touch and how out crazy the prices were for melded gear.
I remember having Stoneskin and Raise on PLD. I kind of miss being able to give my friends the "Paladin Raise of Shame"
My memory got all messed up thinking "paladins couldn't raise" but then thinking "I remember putting raise on the paladin hotbar." Had to do a quick search to find that raise could be used out of combat because they can't take conjurer's enhanced raise trait lol.
@@Leticro I forgot about that part! I just remember changing to PLD specifically to raise a friend in Mor Dhona while ragging on them in voice chat lol
I still to this day forget I can't raise people on Paladin and try to when I see random people lol
I forget that PLD can't raise anymore these days.
It’d be nice if PLD could get a combat raise, callback to our healing roots
Please make a part 2. This was so interesting to watch and I want to know more!
When 2.0 came out you could put straight shot on a melee class and it was still a ranged ability. I would run around with pugilist rocket fists.
I remember doing that as puglist also!! That was frickin awesome
I kinda need a monk rocket fist attack now lol....
I remember being able to cross class Thunder on Summoner, that was honestly hilarious to me
**FOUR DOTS**
Don't forget we used to have access to aero too
@@Larryzaur I’ve been introducing some people I know to do the game, and I’ve been having a lot of fun telling them about how stuff was when I first started playing
@@somnus970 5 DoT Cleric Stance SCH was the best.
@@somnus970 I think only arcanist had aero. Smn only pulled from thm and arc.
I remember when bards were mandatory to use their songs to give mp and tp back to the party. Casters could give healers mp and melee could give tanks TP so they could keep doing their aggro rotation.
Ast being able to give actual individual and specific buffs..
Tanks having dps stances they'd put on instead of tank stance, driving all healers insane LOL
I miss AST giving indvidual and diff buffs. Keep the shit we have now cause i like the system, but make he cards do specific buffs/damage again. That thrill of rng made the game fun.
@@KC-ko4rh I want my old AST back :'C
I want back the fun i had putting strat depending on what card i had draw.
I want back the diversity and indentity that each card had (even tho TP is gone we can easily replace that with HP regen effect and/or other effect)
I want back the feeling of being usefull other than being a guy that just Heal or Shield and give damage boost where you don't really see a difference (Some might say it does and i will believe them, but it's not the same feeling as giving a MP&TP regen on someone and visually see and feel the difference)
Even with all that i will keep playing AST beceause i love the idea of the class and his lore...but god the lore it feel weird and "meh" to see the Tree constellation and being said it's give "protection" and then you look the card and...you read : "Give 3% Damage boost to X jobs and 6% to X jobs"...Urghh...
Also it feels wrong to focus about the symbol of the card and not the card by itself.
Sorry if you just see a guy ranting/yelling i just need to sort that out of the chest sometime.
i felt so bad about the loss of my smn mana shift. i kept it on a free hotbar on the side, grayed out, for a loong time after they removed it ☹️
@@Williamsword83 Honestly yeah it felt good to be the pure Support Healer! It was very special and thematic! Now it doesn't feel like it has the same identity it used to have..
@@eilii same feel! Especially the dot bubble smn and sch used to share! I hated it was gone..
please do a video about a job and all the skill changes over the expacs. i joined in shadowbringers and am really curious about how the game was changing overtime.
👀
Just a quick fun fact
MCH had a major rework in every expansion transition it had so far
HW was gun mage
SB wasn't gun mage anymore but you needed absolutely perfect latency to play even sub optimally
ShB is probably the most "normal" one so far, still needs good ping to play optimally but at least its still playable in bad ping
Man, those videos would take a while. Easily one video per class I think depending on if you wanted to talk about how players would utilize those skills and maybe why SE got rid of it.
@@Larryzaur oh my godd yess
RIP HW DRK
ah, nostalgia... no one in my raid group believes me when I said that praetorium had dialogue options...
How Very Glib
Yeah, they removed them at the same time that they made cutscenes mandatory again right? As think about people just griefing making you wait till everyone made their choices.
Wait they removed it? I just thought that after the first run it doesn't happen again
They removed the line aaaaaaaaaa
As someone that came in at 5.3 I'd love to hear more about previous states of the game.
Yes yes! Me too! I only have around 600hrs of playtime, I joined the FFXIV community a few months ago
@@altaiir541 i came in when all the stormblood story was wrapped up already back in may 2019, i made my character in 2018 but the ui was super overload for me at the time
I started in 5.2 and one change I saw in real time was how gearing at old level caps used to work. You still used poetics, but you could only buy the unaugmented version and had to buy an augmentation item from a separate npc and then take it to a third to augment. And there wasn’t the npcs in major cities, you had to go to old endgame areas.
Generally speaking everything in the game was significantly more agonizing pre 4.1. They fixed a lot of heavensward's issues with 4.0 but it had nasty balancing issues and weird class setups that the team quickly reworked for 4.1. after that it was mostly QoL building.
When the market board didn't exist it was everyones retainer in a long hallway.
Another one is that Piety used to be a main stat, and would affect the actual size of your mp pool rather than it's regen, and spell costs would vary based on your level and mp.
Technically vitality was a gear stat.
Pretty much, after SB. They remove and completely overhaul the system that ppl forget. It’s small but when you remove those elements, it subsequently change the max hp pool for the enemies. However, they choose to buff up the stat, which is why you get stat squish in EW to counter that problem.
There are so many small details that you only know when playing the game and watch the patch notes.
I miss having big dick MP bars. 😓
I miss that
Mor Dona used to just be a tent, it was amazing each patch to see how it changed little by little.
Wish it was tied to story rather then patch cycles but it be weird to see someone whose in a dif part of story clip thru building or look buggy if that happened.
It was fun.
There was a bug involving alexander where you could clip into the bubble hes in and fly around in.
It was a full out of bounds, actually, I remember flying right up to the in-the-distance idyllshire
I think all the expansions have had permanently evolving end-game hub zones - ARR had Revenant's Toll, HW had Idyllshire, SB had the Doman Enclave, and Shadowbringers had the Ishgard Restoration (I think). You need to do youtube archaeology to find out what the original versions looked like and how they've evolved though.
@@Winchester1979 wait idyllshire was different from idyllshire now??
@@lajohnson8588 Yeah, the goblins rebuilt it quite a bit over the five patches. Same happened with Revenant's Toll.
@@lajohnson8588 Yeah, there was no building for the tomestone vendors, there was just walls and rubble and some foundations. It was crazy to take a break and come back to see it fully built from just being some walls. I'm sure you can find images of the change somewhere.
EDIT: look up Idyllshire's evolution, just watched a video that showed the changes, it's crazy how much it changed.
10:25 guys, this was the original jump puzzle.
He didn't complete it though - you're supposed to go all the way to the roof of the Rising Stones!

Crystal DC says hi.
I'M SORRY
crystal was not even a data center on its own. Crystal became a thing LATER, it was either Primal or Aether at the beginning.
@@Miyao05 That's completely irrelevant to my comment.
Also, I know. I'm on Brynhildr, and when I started playing Brynhildr was on Aether DC.
@@JohnDCrafton, you made it seem as if crystal was a thing before when the video basically talking about the history of how the game used to be like.
@@Miyao05 It literally says how party finder is newer and this video was uploaded today.
That's completely irrelevant to his comment.
This really highlighted how old and ancient I am that I remember these...
And ppl who say that hate anything after HW is kinda ridiculous especially with PvP.
I was the one witness how horrible the PvP and the combat feel like during HW and yet ppl say ShB ruin it. It’s pretty much like most ppl didn’t do PvP at that time to know how horrible the system for the game.

I remember when Ninja had venoms that increased it's weaponskill damage, then they removed them in Stormblood (I was just about to get to Heavensward when this happened) and got accused of poisoning someone and I went "No I didn't. Square Removed my Venoms."
There were two of them. Kiss of the wasp/viper, and I can't remember the difference between the two anymore. I'm surprised the MNK fists survived after they pruned poisons.
@@thomaswood8405 I think it was just enhanced damage wasn't it? for like both of them for some reason.
And they took our Leeches!
Wasn't there "TP share" that only Ninja got but it got removed since TP got also removed?
@@LindarFF9 Yeah. That was Goad, then they gave it to every Melee in Stormblood, before Axing TP
The thing I find funniest is that NPCs and mobs still use old skills for their assigned class, like Y'Shtola casting Stoneskin, archer mobs using the old Straight Shot that buffs them, and gladiator mobs using Flash.
Mobs that use "Overpower" also use the old, slower wind up animation.
Are there even any abilities that apply blinded anymore?
For so long I wondered when I'd get Stoneskin, or if that was just an NPC ability. The more you know!
Ah man I remember all of this.... a reminder that I am old.
Same here. I also had the same experience with WoW (before the brought back Classic WoW). I'm really, really old.
Please keep doing these, that is so interesting to find out about what has changed over the Years in FFXIV
The one from 1.0 that always stands out is you could do Main Story fights as a Crafter or Gatherer. Your damage sucked, but you had an amazing stun that could actually make fights easy.
Rock-throw! I want it back so bad if just for the memes.
In 1.0 we used that stun to fight some specific end game bosses.
Think bringing a armorsmith to ultimate and having them stun lock the boss the whole fight to understand what I mean we were doing.
@@r5n that sounds friggen hilaious to watch lol
@@r5n Ah, so this is the origin story of Godbert Manderville.
That one tree... who no one could kill... bunch of gatherers spaming stun over and over...

When I really get into the groove and go autopilot during a long dungeon spam session, I still try to reach for the protect even today >.>
I had a Macro which told ppl to wait while i casted protect and swiftcast Stoneskin ^^.
oh god the flashbacks. Or manually casting stoneskin and people are already pulling lol.
i'm guilty of this crime lol
Nostalgia hit me like a train!
same... rip. even the recent changes makes me sad kinda.
Pretty much they are doing on the right direction though.
Hate it or not, the game was always bugged and miserable for ppl to enjoy, especially when you’re new. It’s part of the problem why mmorpg with those elements die faster if they don’t patch out the issues.
The only thing now is to add more into the game. ShB fixed a lot of bad system and filter out pretty much everything except story filler. The hype for EW isn’t reasonable as you get to see completely new things that just not cycling contents, especially for PvP side or housing.
So much nostalgia, but in a good way for me. Things were rough in some ways and we dealt with it, so now we can look back on it and laugh xD
@@dale7326
I mean sure. But if they could make WAR rotation less shit that'd be cool. Used to be fun. Now it's just 100% unga bunga. If healers could go back to having ya know... not 3 buttons for dps that'd be cool too. I may be salty though since I play WAR, SCH, and BRD and feel that they've stripped the fuck out of all those jobs.
I still have some of the old skills on a separate crossbar as remembrance of what used to be there.
You touched on cross-class ability, but my favorite bit of history I like to tell is how as a Class (instead of a Job) you got more cross-class slots, so the idea was that you can either play the class with a wider cross-class skill selection, or play the Job and have the Job-skills but fewer cross-class options. Obviously nobody ever played that way and they did away with it (and ultimately the differentiation with between class and Job), but I think it was a fun idea that was just poorly balanced.
There were a lot of Marauders in high level content because they could add things like blood for blood and reading strikes to do stupid damage.
I remember class only savage runs happening in HW for alexander, I will say I do miss cross class because of that.
I remember Palace of the Dead was a very good place to stick to classes in
Related - in the early days, before Red Mage, it was impossible to solo 200 on PotD. You could still get fairly deep on most jobs, say 150-180ish... but some couldn't even manage that. In particular, not Bard. Bard was completely and utterly worthless at it. For a good while, the only saves to even get to 100+ on the Bard leaderboards were actually ARCHERS, using cross class skills for extra survivability.
@@Nalehw Summoner with Titan Egi was able to clear POTD floor 200 before red mage even happened lol
I was there, Larryzaur. I was there 8 years ago when A Realm Reborn released. I was there when the strength of parties failed. So we’d find someone new and requeue, only to wipe again.
For real: it was nice going down memory lane.
I sounds horrible!
I was also there and like many other people i didnt like it and played other mmos that were way better at that time. If it didnt have the final fantasy tag, it wouldnt have lasted long enough to become evem comparable to other games. Times change.
depending on how you set up your cross classes, you only could access them depending on the level they were put in, so if you had swift in the 4th slot, you could only access it at lvl 40. It was a lot of juggling.
I remember when Sprint depleted all of your TP. When Dark Knight had two DoTs. When Summoner/Scholar had Shadow Flare
Also, I still have "relics" from that time period. Specifically, the Elemental Materia. My retainers have a few of them but since I think late Stormblood or Shadowbringers, their descriptions were changed to reflect that they used to do things, but now they don't.
Same. I still have some HP materia I've been holding onto just to have it lol
couldn't sprint while in combat either
When unleash and dark passenger cost mp so if you ran out no more aoe aggro for you!
Wow, this game used to be unnecessarily complicated. You've been around for a long time, Larry.
i'm old
Same
Ah, good old Cleric Stance. I still remember letting my fellow party members die because I was trying so hard to heal them and I'd forgot to turn it off...
*hand up for the 'done that' crowd* lol
Even better was when you fat fingered it or turned it off and back on right away and had to wait for the cool down before you could turn it off again
I feel like you made this video with tons of nostalgia in your heart. Years ago you helped me pick my main, Astrologian, and you've entertained me so much since.
Remembering some of this stuff is so weird...I started playing (as a kid) during mid-ARR and then Heavensward, and then I missed all of Stormblood and came back during Shadowbringers. And I was so lost. Not to mention I ended up levelling classes for nothing because I didn't know they ONLY required level 30 now...lol
0:11 I did not know that. That's awesome!
I wish we could still see Rev's Toll as it was in 2.0. And see it progress as the way it did with the post-2.0 patches as you complete the MSQ or something. It was always fun checking on it every patch and seeing it build up over time.
I was thinking one of these days "cooldowns didn't reset on wipe, did they!?"
Thanks for confirming it (my memory sucks)
It’s like BLU. Pretty much you still see that in some other games with raiding though.
Pretty sure a lot of bullshit system they have without thinking how bad the game like.
Larry’s SMN dongs are filled with wisdom. Thank you for the history lesson.
I miss being able to give healers mana. It was really small but made me feel like I was helping. x'D
Embrace was a spell you could cast on a target, i remember spamming embrace on the tank, because Eos didnt heal tagets unless they were under 70% health and it was ogcd
These old mechanics sound so interesting but must have made playing complicated. This puts perspective into why many older players leveled multiple jobs and classes. As a bard main, I crave the old bard LB3.
I would say the game was far more interesting during 2.x but things are more streamlined for new players
@@somnus970 of course u would think that cuz ppl like u always prefer old things even though it sucked
@@john_7000 Honestly I can say this.....I didn't like those things. However they ARE interesting. They were cool ideas but I prefer not having them.....I'm sure crafters especially prefer that because you don't have to level EVERY CRAFTING CLASS to max to be able to do max level crafts.
The healers are down! The raisers are down! OH, BUT THE BARD IS STILL UP, AND WE HAVE LB3....
:')
i admit, that was neat
@@john_7000 it depends some of the old things were actually fun like Titan Egi being a Tank, the fairies having actual differences in how scholar played, some stupid things you could pull out by having this cross class skill on that job or another.
Some were good but then there were bad decisions like for example when Bard and Machinist were casters, or the old point atribute system. I really hated the whole accuracy thing and the fucking grades for Glamour Prisms were horrible because you needed both a specific prism for a specific set of gear and it also needed to be a certain level for it to apply among other things and people would at time charge incredibly high for those things in the MB!
Back then it made sense why people would go out of their way to lvl up all jobs, nowadays is more of a status thing and even when it was hell, back then it felt rewarding specially when you could get a Thunder Cleric Stance Scholar doing a lot of crazy stuff with almost all the dots from all the other casters.
Having started back in 2.4, I remember so many of these things. I remember Greg being ~the~ raid server, and how North Thanalan was so full of endgamers 24/7, many of them AFK, that those of us running FATEs would taunt the endgamers to come join us for Gorgimera and "Show us how it us done!" lol fun times.
Also crossclassing Blizzard II was the only way some classes or jobs could do FATEs in Central Shroud for the ol' relic grind. Good gods I don't miss that. . . . At least we have BLU with Ram Voice now.
It's crazy coming back to the game now after playing when it originally came out. I forgot about all of these things, and when playing again I was like this seems a lot easier
Hey Larry hope you've been well! Thank you for all the awesome videos
You know you've been playing awhile if you can remember when Rowena lived in a tent. 🎪
Thanks for the A in FFXIV History 101! Can't wait for next semester in the follow up class!
all those times you clicked cleric stance, and cleric stance didn't turn off, and you went to heal someone in a raid and they'd get all of 72 hp back.... :') those were the days....
The absolute panic of casting a heal, thinking you're gonna be just in time and then you heal nothing.. kids these days don't know how hard we had it ;D

I actually forgot that I lived through so much of this mallarkey because I started playing in ARR, and now I just keep thinking, "Man. Quality of life is *so much better* now."
And remember, player housing did not exist until 2.1, and the original prices for plots weren't even uniform!
They were different based on what server you were on, until patch 3.3. And they were also much higher than now.
I just started playing again after 6 years and this makes me feel old.
Same here, came back after taking a 3-4 year break
Thanks Larry. This was a lot of reminiscing for me about the old days. I tend to play with friends of mine who are all relatively new to the game and as someone who has been playing since the day it came out (Even having played FFXIV 1.0 way back when), I am known for talking about the before times and how everything is easier now (Not necessarily in a bad way). Throughout this video, I had multiple old man moments where I was nodding along smiling, saying to myself "Yes, I remember that from before" (God I miss cross-classing and old enmity generation).
So I just wanted to say thank you. This absolutely made my day and I am still hoping that someday they will bring a legacy version of the game back (Something like what Runescape did with Old School) where people can choose to play the game, or even just a setting you hit in dungeons (much like when you select undersized) the way things were, because honestly, there was a lot more strategy needed back then, on top of what is needed right now as well, but also a lot more party coherency. You needed your party to be a well-oiled machine that synergized to the last man. I wonder how the current duties would play out and if some would even be possible. Honestly, some of them would seem impossible, but to me that sounds like a challenge that I am only too keen to take on.
Thank you all for reading this long post. Nothing funny here, really, and I hardly ever comment anyways, but I felt like sharing my piece here. Hope that you have a wonderful day!
That was weirdly nostalgic, even though I joined the game in 2020. I would love to see more content about the old times!
A wonderful insight to what my favorite video game used to be. Thanks so much for sharing this Larry!!!
Hell yeah, I've always wanted a video like this. The history of long running games always fascinates me and I've only been playing XIV for about a year and a half.
Damn good video, please do more.
Something I really miss as a tank was the stance dancing between the old Shield Oath (basically enmity stance) and Sword Oath (damage stance).
Managing aggro was actually a fun part of tanking for me. It helped that I started the game as a Gladiator so there was no time for me to get tanxiety at all.

I like how some of these are just: "Oh, you mean like in FFXI". Like losing your food buff when you die.
Literally everythin except the corss class stuff applies to the early stages of every mmo. Wow, gw2, swtor etc. You would always loose your buffs on death, no costume setups, no group finder, etc.

When ARR was also first released, if you're not a black mage, you won't be able to farm for the dungeons because no one will take you and you have to queue up for 30mins if you queue in solo :(
and if there's a blackmage they used to also love to have bard around
Had to wait in queue even with a full party for dungeons because the servers couldn't handle it...
Wow I was in Ul'dah at the market board watching your video and the bgm actually synced up. Also, nice vid!
Move aside encyclopedia Eorzea. This is the new Encarta
This brought back memories to when I started the game. Stuff like cross-class skills, attribute points, old old cleric stance, and having to level archer to unlock black mage.
Didn't realise how much stuff I'd forgotten about how the game used to function.
(Also the Ninja poisons.)
I feel old now.
As someone who played WoW in vanilla to WotLK, the raid queue stuff really spoke to me lol. Good times...
I tried FFXIV for the first time back in 2014, and I really didn't enjoy the game because of how classes worked back then (cross skills, TP, having to level different classes to upgrade your job, etc.). I came back in 2018 and was so happy to see all the quality of life changes that were made over time, and I haven't left since!
I started in 3.2 but still remember a lot these things, thanks for another awesome video!
I'm glad they removed the cross-skills. I remember getting in Shiva-Extreme through Mentor-Roulette as a Tank. And my Co-Tank didn't bring Provoke with them. So the tank-swap was impossible...
So much stuff I forgot about when I started playing. Good to see how far the game has come, thanks!
please make more videos like this. it was super interesting
Thank you professor Larryzaur, I feel very well informed and will reference this at my next job interview 🤝
This was honestly so interesting to listen to, I'm always amazed at how much the game changed!
Thank you for taking time to explain us Larry, it felt nostalgic even for those who didn't play at the time qwq/
I only started playing last year and it's really cool to learn about all this stuff.
As a Dark Knight, I miss scourge.
scourge was soooo good ahhhh
You only briefly touched on Stance Dancing, for those who are wondering about it more, it wasn't just the Healers but the Tanks too. You'd put on your tank stance which would reduce your damage output, grab aggro from the mobs by doing a combo that was dedicated to aggro alone, turn off the stance and then alternate between two different DPS combos. The goal was to stay out of tank stance for as long a possible to do as much damage and only jumping back into it when aggro was absolutely needed. It was a lot of fun in a chaotic sort of way.
Blood 4 blood worked for all dps, I had it on bard lol
Also paladin actually used to be able to raise, but combat res was a healer trait, so they couldn't raise in combat 😂
AH yes yes! All physical, me casty bois couldn't use it :(
Stoneskin pallies were a thing too
Got to keep in mind tough, Blood 4 blood used to increase the damage taken by the user, and dramatically so if used by anyone that isn't actually a dragoon. Better hope you don't die to the raidwide aoe, and pop some defensive actions just in case.
I know Larry will never see this, but these history videos are my favorites ones he’s done. I would watch a million of these. Early FFXIV from the perspective of an actual player is so interesting to me
Weirdly nostalgic, definitely still miss the cross class skills.
But you forgot one of the worst things that got fixed; remember when BRD and MCH were casters?
No i have scrubbed that from my memory and I refuse to remember lalalalala

@@brightsuzaku see that was cooler I hated the cast time thing with the gauss barrel and whatever the bards thing was called.
I actually like cast times, but they need to be done properly. SAM's really fun precisely because their strong attacks have a small cast time, so it feels a bit risk-reward, you get me?
@@Eelanos yeah I think some could work like that just not every single ability
Oh gosh I remember scrambling around getting all my cross-class skills, it's absolutely why I had so many classes half-started on my job class grid before I finally caved and began power-leveling everything for my amaro. Rest in peace, Selene and Titan-egi, we miss you!!! Also anyone else miss mana shift?? Blackmage being able to get another flare in because a sch or summoner buddy was feeling generous was so good!!!
The absolute chad flex of using cross-class ressurect on the helaers as a Paladin
Love listening to Larryzaur’s voice get more ‘granpa’y while reminiscing, and then you happy cuz grandpa Larryzaur sounds so happy 😊
I miss having resurrect and protection as paladin along with the cross class skills from warrior and DK, while also not having MP having a flat cap. OH also the machinist little AoE buffs their rook would give to either melee dps or magical DPS.
I remember protect being my favorite spell to cast lol
Fun fact, I still have a couple stacks of keepers hymns in my retainer as a keepsake from stat points
I still have a copy of every different parcel we got as part of the lightning event.
As someone who also started playing in ARR, this is some good memories. I actually still have all the old skills on my class bars. Except Stoneskinn 1 and 2. They stay on my main bar as well.
Remembering some of these that I had forgotten cause of all the changes was a trip. I remember experiencing some of these cause of my class at the time. Some I remember hearing only legends of lol. Thanks for making this Larry! Nostalgia trips are awesome, and for new players they get to see what we went through.
God im a ff14 Boomer i knew all these facts
Lmao that "yeaaaaah" at the tome chest killed me. I was there for that. The struggle was real.
Skip soar or disband
Ok this was AWESOME! I love learning about my favorite games!
I am actually a bit sad now, having missed most of this, the ups and downs of the game that is. Alot of these seem really nice qol changes, but others feel like making the game easier and simpler in an almost uneccessary way. I still love the game, i would have just liked to see the challenge the earlier expacs had. Expecially Coils and Alexander are amazing fights.
So many memories from this video! Thank you!
Good old times. I remember I healed a dungeon last boss as a BLM. That’s how I found out I could be a decent healer.
Also, I miss cleric stance :(
Glad I'm not the only one who misses old old Cleric Stance
I just love how in the game there are plenty of moments you fight the enemie, u beat the enemie and he runs away, and we dont do anything to stop it, we just watch, just to fight him again later.
The day they add old Cleric Stance back is the day I stop playing healers.
For me it would be quite the opposite. I think healer are too boring for the moment. And they need something more to make them feel more engaging.
Aww~ Thank you for making me nostalgic...! I...experienced it all back then. The whole change of Mor Dohna, the coil-turns and filled locations...the space between coil-turns... the ADS-Strategy....! It all brings tears to my eyes...!
Thank you for reminding me of such great times, Larry :3
I love the details put in by the teams. When they rebuild Idyllshire, there was one npc always dangling from some buildings or cliffs and complaining about how it happened again. Its fun to see the progress of rebuild in these cities and it is a bit sad that we cannot see the different stages they were in again. It always felt so great to actually see the progress.
A few additions I can think of off the top of my head:
I found having the pet be able to tank was incredibly useful back when I was leveling Arcanist. If the tank died or disconnected, I could swap to Topaz Carbuncle and it was actually not bad at tanking small trash packs in low level dungeons, so we could keep going without the tank for a bit.
You had to dismiss your chocobo companion before you could queue up for a dungeon. Also, the timer for how much longer your companion was out didn't display on the party list... you had to open the companion menu to see how much more time it had.
The duty finder information didn't display under your objectives list... if you wanted to see the average wait time, or how close a group was to filling, you had to open up the Duty Finder queue window.
Healers couldn't rez in battle at low levels... their rez only worked outside of combat until they got to a certain level and got the passive that upgraded it to a battle rez.
That's all I can think of right now...
I was thinking this was going to be mega meme video, but it was actually really nice and informative and fun. Nice video.
The thing I remember most about progging Creator Savage? Begging my Ninja, tears in my eyes, for Goad. I am so glad TP is gone.
Even with the fact that Dragoon had a half-bar TP restore, every melee just tore through their resources at top speed.
