If I may add a tiny bit to the Reiner discussion, in S4 when Pieck is nearly obliterated and she’s hiding in the house with Gabi, Falco and whatshisface, it’s mentioned that the Cart’s human body takes longer to regenerate than most titans, because she doesn’t have increased physical endurance like the Armored. So maybe due to having the Armored, Reiner’s human body is able to take an almost supernatural amount of punishment.
And we saw with Pieck that after a long time in Cart Titan form, her normal body is more used to be on all fours so she's on all fours even in human form sometimes due to the effect of the titan and so maybe Reiner is partially explained by that as well Ngl tho I have zero idea where the shifting consciousness part comes from

I just kind of accept that transferring consciousness to other parts of the body than the nape is one untold power of the armored titan. It kind of makes sense too, to have the identity of being armored goes further than just being covered in hard plates, but also making you much more difficult to kill than usual in terms of the standard weakness of titans (the nape).
Pieck also said in season 4 that the Armoured Titan's regenerative ability was better than hers, further implying that it's part of its special ability (I think she used the word durability). And, I mean Eren survives his head getting cut off and we're told all the Shifter's abilities come from the Founding Titan's abilities, so the Armoured Titan clearly just inherited that aspect as well. Personally, with everyone else's abilities (sans the Jaw), I think it would be lame if his ability was just the armour plates/hardening (especially since it seems like almost any of them can do the latter to some extent). It also just makes sense to me that he's a tank, in both senses of the word. (I don't like how exactly it was implemented/explained either, it definitely could have been done better, I'm just saying I like the underlying idea behind it)
There are lots of things you could do to make Reiner be able to survive that attack that tie in with the theme of "armored" that seems less random and out of the blue than "transferring consciousness to other parts of the body", which has nothing to do with any sense of the word "tank". 5:52 One thing that just came to mind is that our brains suck at recalling traumatic moments. Those soilders back then were worfully unaware of the terror the titans would bring and had their bodies filled with adrenaline and the need for survival. Did you know that when Isayama wrote that flashback about Marco, he was answering a question Tetsuro Araki (1st season director and, tbh, the main reason the series became so popular) made to him about why and how Marco died? I think that's why we see Annie in that flashback, she had been out of the story for so long when we see this that Isayama must have felt the need to remind us of her and take the opportunity to characterize her a little more. That’s also why the titan that kills Marco has Tetsuro Araki's face.
I love how in the AOT 2 game, it’s Reiner who beat Zeke in their fight and instead of trying to get Eren, they go inside Wall Sheena to try to get back Annie.
I see no reason why Reiner should be dead from Levi’s attack. We’ve never once witnessed one of the 9 die in any way aside from Titan consumption. What we have witnessed however is several Titan shifters getting deadly injuries, and then surviving. Ymir gets injuries that a soldier notes would be fatal were she not a shifter. Pieck gets utterly shredded in Liberio. Just to name 2 examples. More importantly though, Reiner’s persistent survival is designed to make you frustrated. There are thematic reasons for this that challenge the audience on purpose.
They may run around like silly little goobers, but they are fully capable and willing to kill anyone, even the most skilled person only needs to slip up once. It's the precedent for what the titans do that really creates their menace, despite how fucking silly they move.
23:18 Not to be that guy, but actually... I think there is a way for Reiner to survive this. Let me cook: In s4 (I think "Above and Below") Pieck says that you need to kill Titan shifter on the spot in order to remove them eg blowing their head off. So stabbing through the neck and heart should do it, right? Well, no, because this wouldn't cause you to lose conciousness on the spot, you'd still have some seconds to acknowledge what happened. Enough to trigger transformation. To lose conciousness, there needs to be a substantial reduction of blood supply to the brain. Brain is supplied by four main arteries: two carotid (positioned more in front of your neck) and two vertebral (in the back of the neck). Unless I'm completely blind, Levi severed spinal cord and vertebral arteries, cutting off 75% of the blood supply, but not all of it (frames of the blade in the neck are wanky, but considering that we hear Reiner scream as he hits the lightning button, I think front of his neck is mostly intact). There's blood flow to the brain, there's conciousness, Reiner lives. As for the fall, there are anecdotal cases of people surviving even higher falls and ironically, Levi might have helped Reiner. Severing spinal cord would disable mucsle control below the injury level, relaxing his muscles and effectively turning them into a pillow, softening the fall. Now, as Zeke said in "Midnight Sun", Reiner got unbelievably lucky. If you're not convinced about my rambling (RAMBLING, START THE RAMBLING lol), I completely get it. It's very convenient that Reiner survived this arc, but the don't call him Plot Armor Titan for nothing. That being said, I do think there was non zero chance that he could have made it even without the conciousness trasfer thing. I rest my case
6:43 yea as a South African I agree, during the 1990's our previous race based government collapsed and was replaced by a new government, people where afraid of a civil war, genocide and of the unknown future for our nation, yet our comedians where out here cracking race jokes about anyone and everyone to the point the US refused to import any of our biggest comedians greatest films due to them just being outright racist, yet to this day his films are still beloved by all, blackface included.
I headcannon it as "Marley uses Warhammer Titan spinal fluid to transform people, and a small aspect of the warhammer titan is transferred into their titanshifters." and I use Falcos jaw and Hardening as supporting evidence of this.
About Reiner's survivability, it always bothered me that the Armor titan is just kinda boring compared to the others. When the Attack, Female, Jaw, Warhammer, and even Beast titan are shown to use hardening, it makes the Armor seem less special. But I had an epiphany. During the battle at Liberio, when Pieck and Porco are trapped, it takes her longer to heal, since the Cart has relatively poor durability and healing. If you take that to mean that each shifter inherits aspects of their specific titans even when in human form, it goes a long way to explain things like Erin's adrenaline spike when he saves Armin from the Santa titan or Reiner's ridiculous plot armor. Personally, I don't have a problem with Reiner surviving stupid amounts of damage, frankly because it's an anime, where those kinds of 'how is he still alive' moments are common. I understand that AoT has a higher standard, and why people are upset with that, but it never bothered me much.
One thing i love about reiner is that he always gets back up, willingly or not. Which is why he is the armor titan, even when he is suicidal his spirit just doesnt give up and keep moving.
about the ear thing, I think there is a theory of it being pig's ears. The theory goes, that when we see Ymir opening the gate for pigs, there are three pigs(and there was something more about only one pig looking forward), and later the king says who let the pig out, clearly not pigs. So only one of them escaped, and who is a titan with pig ears that is not fat like a pig. Eren
I’ve become addicted to watching these. I love them and they help me sleep. It’s the perfect length bc I doze off right at the end everytime. I love aot and I love this series. You’re doing great big dawg.
21:50 I think that most people's problem with this (at the very least, my problem with that ability) is that it is never used again. Unlike Eren's hardening, or the Colossal's nuke power, this ability is never seen again in the whole series. The presentation itself makes it seem as a Deux Ex Machina to start off, the fact that we never get to know if it is exclusive to the Armored or not makes it worse, and the fact that we never see it happen again cements it as one of the few "bad writing" Attack on Titan has.
@@AM17titan Never again, closest was the Liberio attack. But regardless, it's still something that only happened once, so yeah. Stuff like that feels too forced no matter where. Also, that last phrase cements my point lol. Nobody knows if it's exclusive or not.
I'd say that on the surface it makes sense for Marley to know more about the Titans' anomalous biology than Paradis, and even it could even follow through from the human - titan - shifter transformation that they might be capable of preserving the mind in some fashion, but I don't think it was executed properly
As far as the “how did Reiner survive the crazy fall” I think it’s worth noting how during the battle for Trost while Ymir, Crista, Bertholdt, and Reiner were all in the castle tower… Reiner stuck his entire arm into the mouth of a titan (admittedly it wasn’t a HUGE one but still) and walked away with a scratch after yeeting it out the window. There is definitely a solid argument that his bones are not normal human bones even when he isn’t in his titan form. Maybe they’re permanently hardened or crystallized?
one other (slightly over-analytical) interpretation of mikasa cutting off bertholdt's ear is the biblical symbolism behind it - the night that judas betrays jesus before he is crucified, one of the disciples cuts off the ear of a soldier who has come to arrest jesus. and in the same way, mikasa cuts off bertholdt's ear - it represents betrayal and that sort of angry yet futile desperation just prior to an unstoppable evil (i.e., the crucifixion, or what would realistically be the complete end of humanity in the walls if the marley team wins)
35:31 I’m surprised you didn’t talk about this error: Here the colosal is on his knees, yet he’s still at the height of the walls. He’s way too big and also when Eren takes his foot they are then both very small compared to their true height.
I've thought about the whole Reiner not dying thing (both times) quite a bit. And i think there's a decent argument for why he survived Levi's attack. Obviously we know that the shifters individualality effects their respective titan. The titans look similar to the people they are, Zekes countless games of catch that surround his upbringing/forming of his ideals show up in his titans throwing abilities. Falcos urge to fly formed a bird jaw titan etc etc. I think the reverse is also true, the inherited titan effects the person as well. For example Armin growing considerably after inheriting the colossal (could be argued that he's a late bloomer, but I don't think it's coincidence) or Erens attitude matching the attack titans lust for freedom (obviously hard to tell what comes first with the time travel shenanigans). If that's true then you could argue that Reiner's human form could be extra durable even compared to other shifters as he inherited the colossal titan.
I can explain how the colossal disappeared in Trost. THEORY: The colossal titan's ability is to control his own decomposition. Even while alive. EVIDENCE: Dead titans decompose into smoke. OBJECTION: Why wasn't his skeleton left on the ground outside of Trost? DEFENSE: Dead Titan bones naturally decompose into steam.
Your argument about; Eren's confusion about Reiner being dead = impossible I see where you're coming from, and I like it Apologise if I am paraphrasing it; "Wait, how can he be dead? Did I change the fixed future?" line of doubt/idea is a very fair one. If Eren had been shown scenes that do unfold in the future, and specifically of "His" meeting with Reiner right before the declaration of war How could Reiner die here, and be there? With Reiner dead here, that future...have I managed to prevent it?" Eren's reaction is fully understandably shaken from that line of thought

About Reiner being able to tank everything and anything, i totally agree that it wpuld be in line with his abilities and position in the marleyan military... There's a lot of instances of him surviving some gnarly stuff, some even in human form. (hey remember when annie squished him like a grape and then he just walked it off) like maybe annie knew he could take it lol. But yeah definitely agree that showing this (apparent) ability, like visually, or describing it more, would have done a lot to make him scraping by through Levi's assault here a lot easier to believe.
I always interpreted the title "Descent" as just Bertholdt's descent in the barrel down to Shiganshina. Bertholdt descending was shown extensively because he was about to blow up. Him joining the fight was also recognized by the scouts when he descended, and the danger of him deciding to transform and blow up was a dramatic and dangerous moment. And he decided not to blow up during his descent when he saw Reiner. Fun fact: this was the first Attack on Titan episode I watched.
@@arian6565 do you even hear yourself? bro literally said that the world is cruel and WENT WITH IT basically submitting that he cant change or make the world a better place and he has to be a puppet of marley to live a peaceful life that is the whole reason why his armin and berthold dynamic is powerful lol because armin WILL NO MATTER WHAT try to change things for the better
Reiner, and titan shifters in general, but Rainer in particular is extremely durable and difficult to kill, this is shown in the series time and again. Also, the scene of Levi being the one to fail to kill Reiner is actually a really good way to show just how hard it is to kill Reiner even in human form, and good foreshadowing for him surviving the thunder spears later when he is in titan form. Basically a: "If he's so tough even Levi couldn't kill him before he transforms, why would you assume a bomb would work on his titan form?"
Honestly, the fact that we see the most destructive attack in Attack On Titan barring the Rumbling, which entirely shifts the battle on one side and the fact that modern tech found in the thousands across the planet blows it out of the water as if it was nothing to be terrifying. We just saw what that world's second most powerful attack was, and we were not impressed.
Of all the plot armour problems this show has, I always assumed reiner ability to survive insane stuff is due to his armoured titan powers, specifically about defence😂

At some point in S04 Eren scratches his ear in the same way zeke does here 13:01 when he is talking. I wonder if that was on purpose to add another connection to them being brothers?
The thing is, with Eren, it's his HEAD. That just makes sense to me. You can see Eren's eyes start to close, if he didn't touch Zeke, he was dead. With Reiner, it just being in his big toe is just so so silly.
I totally agree about Annie. Even though it still hurts to see her kill Levi Squad, (and I love that Levi still kinda hates her), I still love her character and think she deserves the same amount of grace as Rhino and Burrito. But... that YoYo part.... that just felt unnecessary 😭
The worst thing is that was unnecessary from the writing pov. Like, why would she done this after being emotionally destroyed by Marco's death. Even in her OVA the entire thing happens because she tries to distract herself from thinking about expedition.
@@dominox19 agree 100% Its not the act of killing so much as the act of appearing to be having fun while doing so I think that they simply wanted to make her look much more evil and intimidating without thinking about or maybe not even knowing the full picture behind Annie
I think it should be said that the human brain can remain conscious for about 5-10 seconds after decapitation. Couple that with the fact that a titan shifter's first transformation is generally brought on by any physical harm, I'd dare say that even if Mikasa HAD fully cut Reiner's head off back on Wall Rose, he might have transformed anyway by means of pure instinct; with either his head alone, or his headless body being inside of his titan, either regrowing his head or his entire body, inside. What might have saved the Levi/Reiner moment, in retrospect, would be to have a tiny spark of titan energy crackle from Reiner's neck as Levi's blade went through.
glad to be back sorry youtube is screwing you over you deserve much better but i like the new green screen talking, shakes it up a bit. Hope they lay off!
Eren was still alive when zeke grabbed his head. You still live for a couple seconds since you still have some oxygen in your brain even if it gets separated. 22:44
When we see Erwins formation when the female titan first shows up was to draw out a potential unknown shifter that they suspected so it kind of all went to plan
I personally feel that with the Reiner v Levi moment, they could have just had Reiner start his transformation with Levi's first attack, which would force Levi to back off, that way it would be more consistent with what happens to Eren later on. Also apparently after being decapitated IRL you are still conscious for like 30 seconds or so

Sucks that you had that whole wacky situation with UA-cam, but we're so back.
Already made my weekend man, thanks!
Hope you enjoy!
At 15:18 he's not saluting, he's touching the letter from yimir to historia. A tangible item for their promise to her.
The bullying with Bertholdt ! Bathwater now? 😂
🗿
I headcannon it as "Marley uses Warhammer Titan spinal fluid to transform people, and a small aspect of the warhammer titan is transferred into their titanshifters." and I use Falcos jaw and Hardening as supporting evidence of this.
“Thats just how it is”
~Bertholdt
Never clicked so fast
about the ear thing, I think there is a theory of it being pig's ears. The theory goes, that when we see Ymir opening the gate for pigs, there are three pigs(and there was something more about only one pig looking forward), and later the king says who let the pig out, clearly not pigs. So only one of them escaped, and who is a titan with pig ears that is not fat like a pig. Eren
Happy accident, or omni level planning?
Dude.... You're breaking my 4th wall..
I’ve become addicted to watching these. I love them and they help me sleep. It’s the perfect length bc I doze off right at the end everytime. I love aot and I love this series. You’re doing great big dawg.
Hell yeah dude, i actually love that you’re showing ur face now. I hope this works man, ive been watching this aot series since u started it
Through the entire series i still crack up a lil bit every time you call bertholdt burrito. Its hilarious
And Bathwater is craazzyy😂😂
21:50 I think that most people's problem with this (at the very least, my problem with that ability) is that it is never used again. Unlike Eren's hardening, or the Colossal's nuke power, this ability is never seen again in the whole series. The presentation itself makes it seem as a Deux Ex Machina to start off, the fact that we never get to know if it is exclusive to the Armored or not makes it worse, and the fact that we never see it happen again cements it as one of the few "bad writing" Attack on Titan has.
well when was the time reiner almost died after this episode or after this season?
its just a special ability to armored titan i think
@@AM17titan Never again, closest was the Liberio attack. But regardless, it's still something that only happened once, so yeah. Stuff like that feels too forced no matter where.
Also, that last phrase cements my point lol. Nobody knows if it's exclusive or not.
@@KyzenEX he literally has the best defensive titan so its safe to assume it
@@AM17titan Safe to assume, yes, but it still isn't confirmed. There's no way to spin it dude. If it's not officially confirmed, it's not a fact.
Praying for the best man wasn't expecting another episode so soon but glad nonetheless ❤
I'd say that on the surface it makes sense for Marley to know more about the Titans' anomalous biology than Paradis, and even it could even follow through from the human - titan - shifter transformation that they might be capable of preserving the mind in some fashion, but I don't think it was executed properly
Yay thank you!!! I had to rewatch all the other episodes because I just couldn't bear to wait for new ones. I'm definitely gonna enjoy this now!
Commenting to help boost engagement. This series is BANGIN
HOLY SHIT WE'RE SO UP
As far as the “how did Reiner survive the crazy fall” I think it’s worth noting how during the battle for Trost while Ymir, Crista, Bertholdt, and Reiner were all in the castle tower… Reiner stuck his entire arm into the mouth of a titan (admittedly it wasn’t a HUGE one but still) and walked away with a scratch after yeeting it out the window. There is definitely a solid argument that his bones are not normal human bones even when he isn’t in his titan form. Maybe they’re permanently hardened or crystallized?
I dont think a show has ever made me forgive a character like Reiner by the end of the show your cheering for him to win.
Really? You cheered for him?
@@josemexicanmexican7602I mean he was the MVP for the fight to stop Eren.
13:10 i bet a constant state of hypothermia would be a good way to detain a shifter
37:15 also because there are also no NUKE-lear processes behind the explosion.
Glad to see you back in action. We’re all here for you
MY FAV SERIES IS BACK YIPPIE
The various nicknames for Bertholdt is great
Simply stunning. Keep up the fantastic work!
one other (slightly over-analytical) interpretation of mikasa cutting off bertholdt's ear is the biblical symbolism behind it - the night that judas betrays jesus before he is crucified, one of the disciples cuts off the ear of a soldier who has come to arrest jesus. and in the same way, mikasa cuts off bertholdt's ear - it represents betrayal and that sort of angry yet futile desperation just prior to an unstoppable evil (i.e., the crucifixion, or what would realistically be the complete end of humanity in the walls if the marley team wins)
35:31 I’m surprised you didn’t talk about this error:
Here the colosal is on his knees, yet he’s still at the height of the walls.
He’s way too big and also when Eren takes his foot they are then both very small compared to their true height.
I think the walls are just supposed to be farther away than the Colossal Titan is.
Also just for dramatic perspective. The scouts see the Colossal as overwhelmingly massive and unapproachable.
I really hope you can keep this series going you probably make the best aot break downs
Im really hoping the copyright systems gets fixed man, your analysis is great.
THAT IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED YOU TO LOOK LIKE! Sleeked back hair looks good
love this!!! wish your channel the best
Sorry, armored titan*
Great video as always. Good luck for your appeals!
Bro i am so excited for the next episode. The riding scene is so brutal
Definitely one of the more fun fights to talk about
Your argument about;
Eren's confusion about Reiner being dead = impossible
I see where you're coming from, and I like it
Apologise if I am paraphrasing it;
"Wait, how can he be dead? Did I change the fixed future?" line of doubt/idea is a very fair one.
If Eren had been shown scenes that do unfold in the future, and specifically of "His" meeting with Reiner right before the declaration of war
How could Reiner die here, and be there?
With Reiner dead here, that future...have I managed to prevent it?"
Eren's reaction is fully understandably shaken from that line of thought
I’m so sorry to hear about this broken copy right system…
Ur aot series is my fav and the reason I subscribe, really hope your channel will be fine and not forced to ditch the series bc of yt’s problems ❤
Why does he sound so different when seeing him in contrast to his voice over 😂
Excellent content uploaded to an excellent series!!!! Can only hope for dear algorithms that we don't loose any other of this awesome gems!!! thanks for sharing!!!! 😁
This is my first time actually seeing you, you look really cool
I absolutely love this series and I'm very sorry youtube is making it difficult for you to continue. Hope it gets fixed
Irl Korotos intervening is basically Eren’s memory shenanigans
Shaking with excitement for the next three episodes. Hopefully the yt situation will resolve itself.
We the viewers should have the right to stop the channel from getting strike
I always interpreted the title "Descent" as just Bertholdt's descent in the barrel down to Shiganshina. Bertholdt descending was shown extensively because he was about to blow up. Him joining the fight was also recognized by the scouts when he descended, and the danger of him deciding to transform and blow up was a dramatic and dangerous moment. And he decided not to blow up during his descent when he saw Reiner. Fun fact: this was the first Attack on Titan episode I watched.
and it also could be berthold descending into a true villain like descending your humanity
while before he was hesitant and cried
@@AM17titan I think you meant hero, right?

bro literally said that the world is cruel and WENT WITH IT basically submitting that he cant change or make the world a better place and he has to be a puppet of marley to live a peaceful life
that is the whole reason why his armin and berthold dynamic is powerful lol
because armin WILL NO MATTER WHAT try to change things for the better
babe wake up new overanalyzing aot just dropped
another wonderful analysis pookie🫡
I had a buddy back in season 1 who accurately guessed who the armored and colossal titan was based on reiners hair lol
Armin's nuke was pretty destructive
Of all the plot armour problems this show has, I always assumed reiner ability to survive insane stuff is due to his armoured titan powers, specifically about defence😂
It took me DAYS to see that you uploaded this. Why is UA-cam being an asshole about these videos 😭
Got slapped with an *incorrect* age restriction which killed reach after the upload - probably that. 😅
Turning on all notifications really seems to be the only way of not missing uploads nowadays 😭
At some point in S04 Eren scratches his ear in the same way zeke does here 13:01 when he is talking. I wonder if that was on purpose to add another connection to them being brothers?
bro casually put bathwater, ryan air, and birchnut into his script and pretends like he didn't
@@dominox19 agree 100%
Its not the act of killing so much as the act of appearing to be having fun while doing so
I think that they simply wanted to make her look much more evil and intimidating without thinking about or maybe not even knowing the full picture behind Annie
@purpleemerald5299 that does make sense
I mean, the was just as dead either way
Another video by a great channel muck yeah
damn I never noticed the pointy ears thing on jeager's titans...
Epic.
another masterful video
Imma be real, not once did I ever notice mikasa sliced burrito’s ear off till now
17:50 very very sorry to inform, it's literally the same sequence from s2e1 when He threw Mike's horse at Mike

„The Plot Armor Titan“ 😂 ❤
When we see Erwins formation when the female titan first shows up was to draw out a potential unknown shifter that they suspected so it kind of all went to plan
Yeah Lets go! I need this series to finish.
That’s why they call him the plot armored titan
OH we’ve been waiting for this one
You have to overanalyze the sea episode
I personally feel that with the Reiner v Levi moment, they could have just had Reiner start his transformation with Levi's first attack, which would force Levi to back off, that way it would be more consistent with what happens to Eren later on. Also apparently after being decapitated IRL you are still conscious for like 30 seconds or so
This has been up for so long how is it only at sub 200 views
