To my fellow struggling subzero mains, ive found some interesting combos that make use of 1 meter using sonya and whens the best time to use them in my experience 1 METER 1)21 EX deadly vapors b2 b2 j21 RB j12 3 bf4 Does 324 dmg its your punishing combo. I usually use it to punish most combos since it has the fastest start up and highest dmg. It can be used mid screen or in corners. Of course it would be nice for it to have more dmg but you will have to use this combo very often. 1 METER 2)B34 RB b2 j12 3 EX ice slide RB db1 3 bf3 This is by far the hardest combo, but it does 374 dmg and its start up is mostly safe. When you EX ice slide, you must use sonya immediately in order to prevent the enemy from falling to the ground or having sonya on the wrong side. The start up of this combo is also somewhat difficult to time as sonya must be used as soon as the second kick lands in the string “B34”. Then “B2”, and “j12” must follow up immediately since the window to do so is very small. This combo is the safest when blocked but has a slower start up than combo #1. I wouldnt advise using this combo but instead an alternative.
1 METER 3)B2 b2 j21 RB j21 EX diving glacier j12 RB bf3 Unfortunately this involves landing the very unsafe overhead, but comes as great reward if you do dealing 413 dmg. It can be used midscreen or in the corner. I usually dont use this combo unless you can assume that there is a good chance the enemy will be hit by the overhead. This is more of a combo that should be used to take advantage of a given situation instead of outright aiming to go for it. In my experience, trying to get a high damage combo like this constantly makes you predictable and can leave you vulnerable to a punishing combo which is why you shouldnt get too eager or greedy to deal high dmg.
CORNER COMBOS 1 METER 4) b34 RB b2 j21 db1 j21 EX diving glacier j21 RB bf3 Deals 422 dmg, and it somewhat difficult. However you should use sonya the second time immediately so the enemy doesnt fall too quickly. 1 METER 6)21 EX deadly vapors b2 b2 j21 RB j21 db1 j21 RB bf3 This is the combo you should use to punish the enemys move when in the corner (like armoring an ability in an attempt to catch you off guard and to get out of the corner) This produces 352 dmg and is safe to most attacks. Its common sense but never use two meters in a combo with deadly vapors in it since the trade off due to deadly vapors dmg scaling will not be worth it.
Basic tips ive found: Since the overhead is unsafe, if you believe that the enemy will be able to block the overhead then you can special cancel the overhead into an ice slide. This essentially makes the enemy frightened to block low during the special cancel as they believe that theres a possibility that they will be struck by the overhead into a full combo. This doesnt work on more experienced players and if you recognize that the player is experienced, you can instead special cancel the overhead into an ice clone, and even punish players who are eager to take back their turn. Dont try to use ice ball to counter projectiles. I hate to say it but ice ball is sub zeros worst ability despite it being his classic and is nearly impossible to use effectively. Its slow start up makes you vulnerable to projectiles or an incoming attack so dont ever bother using it or enhancing. At most it will scare the enemy from rushing you from afar. Even ice clone is better at this job. A lot of sub zeros moves are punishable so try to use them wisely and know when to use them. Ice slide shouldnt be used from full screen since its very reactable and cant even reach the enemy if they decide to move back. Im welcome to any tips or improvements to any of these combos so please let me know and god bless you all for trying to make sub zero work and restore him to his former glory.
Looking at the full release some characters are getting 40-50% for one bar and sub-zero during the beta gets 50% for 2-3 bars so the nerf was pointless compared to the others.

Combo off of every button (into a 20% using an assist), excellent zoning (if someone doesn't fireball contest/teleport behind you with assists in which case you lose), good counter pressure ( what does that mean?), borderline unreactable advancing low (just block low, his only overhead in neutral is slow and reactable), double overhead launcher (that is mega punishable on block and has a slow as fuck startup) SZ is ass, they gutted him.
You barely do any efford with other characters and land 50+ damage whereas with subzero, you have to put a lot of effort for nothing. You can notice how the damage as you progress goes to minimum less than 1% with each move
Can u maybe make a lil tutorial on some of these? I mean the 3 bars one is a too much for online but i would gladly take some one bar and two bar combos from you. These have some swag!!
