Abandoned it because of the lack of practical effects and atmosphere. Cgi has made a cold and hollow future. I also dislike fan service. Make Godzilla as mysterious as he always has been, he's not a superhero..this isn't marvel..
Maybe he doesn't eat humans because we don't carry any amount of radiation. If we did, he'd have to eat a country's worth of humans to feel anything.

There's also the part from Dracula in the first 'Hotel Transylvania' movie about why he didn't want to suck Johnny's human blood. Humans have too many unhealthy things in their bodies and blood.

The reason why they don't allow him to eat living beings is because Godzilla is meant to be seen as a god like character and making him eat humans and animals just makes him look like a wild animal

I actually like the fact he doesn't eat people. Watching him munch down on people would just seem bizarre and unsettling. Plus, it helps kind of separate himself from your A-Typical giant monster

Remember the movie The War of the Gargantuas(1966)?
The green one consumed a human female and then spits out her clothes ON-SCREEN. That scene was very traumatizing/disturbing.
It ate several more humans off-screen.
Even the other gargantuan was displeased with the green gargantuan eating humans and sought it out.
That scene left many in the audiences unnerved the first time they saw it, especially children.
Messed me up the first time I saw it. Still weirds me out.

I think it's because Toho doesn't want kids pretending to eat humans when they're "playing Godzilla."
Fun fact: in the Godzilla x Marvel crossover comics they did way back (I don’t remember when but it was meant to take place right after King Kong vs Godzilla), it shows Godzilla grazing on trees, which I always thought was pretty cool (this was when I was a kid so I didn’t know he mainly feds on radiation). Thought I’d share this since we are talking about food :3
He would need to eat a LOT of people
I think the main reason is to keep Godzilla as a metaphor for war, destruction, etc. A being so powerful it is beyond the concept of eating, it destroys for the sake of it, not because of hunger, but because of anger.
I think it's because of pride.godzilla thinks eating humans is below his image.not that he cares about humans. And goes on to eat other monsters
For this reason is why I liked both of the Skull Island movies. The people were always in danger and added a lot of tension. It felt like no one was safe.
Yes i want the monsterverse to feel scary again especially with the other creatures like seeing the skull crawlers and other titans like rodan for example eating more pilots like he did kotm.
Good point Rodan and Ghidorah both ate people for seemingly no reason other than to look scary or be cruel.

1:14 Everyone should see the concept art they made for the Zilla vs Goji fight in that movie. FW Goji was so detailed in their drawing while the Zilla looked like the artist asked their 4 year old child to draw for them.
If we talk about the Godzilla of the MonsterVerse, why should he eat people? He is the guardian and protector of the planet and for humanity!
It could be that there's something inherently less tasteful about seeing people get eaten which could ruin Godzilla's image as a force of nature that is to be respected rather than just a giant rabid animal. If people get killed by the destruction of buildings or get squashed, it's collateral damage rather than spiteful, targeted harm. We're in his world at a price, not the other way round and him invading or hunting us.
Also eating food would imply that Godzilla would have to take a massive dump somewhere, and I dont think Toho wants that.

Why Godzilla don't eat humans if TOHO would think about are two main reasons. 1: He's too frickin tall for that. 2: comes from showa and heisei era gojis he feeds on radiation as he exudes tons of the stuff. even with the '98 zilla didn't really go out of it's way to eat humans just what ever is nearby. If Godzilla must eat something other than radiation then it should be other kaiju especially those that upset the balance. Monsterverse showed this a bit with Goji absorbing tiamat's dna. That doesn't preclude there being a high kill count from exposure or collateral damage from fights.
The big question is does Godzilla have a stomach? Because clearly evolved looks like there isn’t even any room for one in his body. 😅

my theory is that Godzilla’s symbolism as being a giant monster puts him above means of just….eating people. The idea of them being crushed under a giant foot, or buried under debris, or succumbing to radiation is much more fitting as dying to a god rather than the god just being hungry and !needing human munchies.
But that’s just a theory.

I just think it would be pointless for Goji to eat humans, but if he did, they would probably get incinerated by the intense radiation flowing throughout Godzilla.

Good video! Although I do want to note, in GMK he does actively swallow a submarine. And in 1998, he does seem to try and eat vehicles? Also in the VR game Kaiju Wars, he does seem to try and munch on the player. Although, maybe he is just doing what Godzillasaurus did in Minus One. Also in the original 1954 film, Godzilla is stated to eat sacrificed villagers (if I remember right).

My Theory: maybe the reason why they don’t allow Godzilla to eat humans it’s because ever since the original first Godzilla the first film and while in production they had a scene where Godzilla was actually eating a cow during when the villagers try to confront him maybe that could be why and the predecessor aka can’t eat humans where begin
Fun Fact: behind the scenes and secret archives there was an original scene that was supposed to be added on the film but the producers and the makers said otherwise because they fear that it will be too traumatized to the people and the children that Godzilla is eating a cow while it’s still suffocating…

I think in the newer movies at least the main reason Godzilla doesn’t eat us is we don’t register as food and he basically sees humans a group so kills aren’t personal attacks that eating would is. As opposed to Kong who not only recognizes people as individuals he actually likes a couple. This means when he attacks people it’s personal and an act of dominance. People may not be on the menu but eating one as a sign of aggression/dominance is a definite possibility.

I think Toho doesnt want Godzilla to eat because they dont want him to be seen as an animal trying to survive, but more like a world disaster, an unstopable force of nature.

I think the answers simple: Godzilla isn't allowed to eat people because it would make him look more like an animal just trying to survive rather than a force of nature and destruction incarnate. The fact that he doesn't eat people is to hint at a deeper reason for his war against humanity rather than simple survival of the fittest. Also, everyone I tried to talk to about Godzilla back in the day thought that Godzilla just ate people, so this video feels like justification for me who would try to convince them that he didn't, so thank you!
The only kaiju I recall eating people was the green gargantuan. The smog monster consumed humans....I think. He dissolved them anyway. Rodan was seen in Destroy all monsters hunting dolphins. He also ate giant insects in the movie Rodan. Minya was feed some kind of giant melons in Son of Godzilla by the island girl. Only remember Godzilla feeding on nuclear power plants in his movies.

There are more calories in a gram of uranium than there is in 28 grown men. For a kaiju that big, it makes sense that Godzilla would prefer to eat radiation.
Funny enough, this is also a new rule. Showa and Heisei Godzilla have been shown, stated and depicted to eat meat. Whales, schools of fish and other monsters are on the menu. Heisei's species seems to be an omnivorous group, eating plants and meat as well as feeding on radiation. Junior ate plants, burgers and whales and Heisei himself had no problems biting chunks out of other monsters that he didn't seem to spit out like Biollante and Battra and was going to devour a rat monster in Biollante but this was cut because of how gory it'd be-not cause Godzilla doesn't eat.
This is a simple explanation really. Godzilla, at his size, eating people would be like you or me trying to fill up on table salt.
For me him killing humans on purpose was one reason i won't watch Godzila minus one.

I think you’re actually right on with why he doesn’t eat “they don’t want him to. To further explain, in Japanese culture it’s impolite to walk around eating and drinking (baseball and soccer games exception). I guess it’s a little weird in the US, but even more so in Japan. Toho wants to give Godzilla a dignified proper humanish feel for a monster. Showing him eating raw bloody meat would go against this normally, but it would go even more against this in Japanese culture showing him walking around eating out and about. This separates Godzilla from being just an animal or monster.

You also seem to forget that GMK goji and 1954 didn’t die either. And neither did GXM the gojira who fought megagurius.
Toho has said in the past that Godzilla is viewed as a heroic and much loved character. So Godzilla will never eat any people. For the sequel to Godzilla Minus 1 they should have Gaira the Green Gargantua show up. Gaira loves eating people and would scarf them down like they are popcorn chicken.

They decided when they tried to have Godzilla eat a cow it looked goofy, and it did for the first movie. And you look at Godzilla's mouth it would be hilarious today as it was then.

I think the reason why doesn't eat anything(anything that is meat), is because he takes in energy from the sun.
🙌Let me explain 🙌: Godzilla doesn't need to eat anything cause he takes energy from the sun, by using his dorsal plates/fins to absorb solar energy from the sun light, converting it into nutrients and consuming it or storing it into his body so he would use it to defend him(use atomic power) or have something to feed out of during hibernation or for later.
(Kinda like solar panels or plants like flowers and trees)
In a novel series I'm writing, Godzilla hunts giant versions of various animals that crop up. (e.g., huge crabs)
I love that he doesn't eat people or other things. Not only do I see it as beneath him. But he gets his energy from nuclear energy. I like that it sets him apart from other monsters. Maybe if he was desperately low on nuclear, maybe eating a few whales to sustain until he found something better. But otherwise I like that he doesn't eat people etc
I kind of worry about Toho's strict mandates on Godzilla hurting his flexibility as a character, it seems a reoccuring reason why Kong is easier to use as a lead protagonist in their crossover movies, I hope at some point they can try laying off on it in like a case by case scenario.
Mainly in how emotive Godzilla can be and him having a character arc in a Toho film or the Monsterverse, because modern Godzilla should not always just be Shin Godzilla 2.0, we need to remember he has a supremely colorful history through the ages, its what makes him an interesting figure.
Awww giving 98 Goji a little love. i have a soft spot for them(her?) grantedi t's mostly because of Jr from the cartoon, but even if not a 'proper' Godzilla. Definitely a worthy kaiju.

Would like to see MonsterVerse Godzilla eating another kaiju in the future (my guess is that he only prefers to devour radiation and kaiju meat).
My guess: After defeating another destroyer Titan, Godzilla eats said kaiju alive while it's still kicking and screaming.
It's probably because it's too cliche for the monster to eat humans, also the whole "Godzilla can't die" thing is baffling seeing as the og godzilla died.
They probably just made a list based on all the things '98 Godzilla did without realizing they were being hypocritical. Either way, they added the caveat that Godzilla could die if they foreshadowed his return, so I think the original ending qualifies as having done that.

Yes 98 died buuuuut had a baby survive the blast.
It's kind of simple really. Probably because humans are very small compared to Godzilla, and it would be a waste of energy to try and eat one. They aren't even big enough to satisfy as a snack in Godzilla's eyes. Since most of the Godzillas from movies consume radiation instead of meat, eating humans is just unnecessary.

I swear, I loved watching -1 Godzilla mouth yeating those guys all across the beach. This is the most brutal Gojira has ever been that I've seen. Can't wait to see what Toho does next.

I recall the 54 scene where Godzilla ate cattle on the shore. Everybody filming this hated that scene because it looked fake and disillusioned the fact that Godzilla was not just a giant monster, but THE giant monster.
The original 1954 ate people. While not shown on screen the old man on Odo island states he comes on shore to eat once the ocean runs out and he says they used to sacrificed virgins to appease Godzilla.
Well that can be explained as just part of the legend. Their ceremonies don’t necessarily mean he did eat anyone, just like gods didn’t actually bring rain after someone was sacrificed.
No killing off Godzilla. No eating people, or hunting anything outside of other Kaiju. Not a problem for me. Matter of fact, both work for me just fine. And certainly never straying from the basic Godzilla design.
I am actually planning to make a stopmotion in which Goji does prey on another monster. ^^
If he did go around eating humans for nourishment he’d have to eat entire cities worth of humans at the absolute minimum, likely more.
I think Lore wise it just makes no sense for him to eat Humans. He 'eats" radiation.
