As an American this is very interesting. You sneaky sneak, you just don't want any competition
I understand what you are trying to say in this video, you have good intentions. However, it’s easy for you to come to this conclusion because you have been here for 5-6 years, you got the chance to do what you wanted and now you can see the bigger picture. It’s harder for people who are India to see that, “the grass is always greener on the other side”. I’m born and raised in America, my parents immigrated in the late 80s and I saw the struggle they went through to achieve what they wanted and to get me where I am today. I have an undergrad degree in chemical engineering and I went on to pursue medicine to get my MD. When they would go back to India to visit everyone would just assume oh you earn in dollars and that’s so easy. No one ever sees the amount of hard work it takes to succeed here. I would tell the people watching this video, Hersh is right in the sense you have to be realistic in knowing what you want to do because “the American dream” doesn’t come easy. That being said you shouldn’t be discouraged because you don’t immediately know what it is you want to do. Hersh had 6 years and was able to realize what he wanted you to should give yourself that chance. One thing I agree with is if you are coming here for the sole purpose to get away from your family you will not make it very far. You need a fire burning in you to achieve something more then just avoiding parents. This is the land of opportunity but hard work and perseverance are the main keys to success here, there are no shortcuts.
That's fair enough, I did have almost 6 years to come to this conclusion. I will continue to challenge any of my viewers to find what's their drive behind coming here and research if there are other countries that are less challenging and still offer what they are looking for.
My cousin who studied at SJSU, he was fed up to see competition from Indian students for jobs in US was 90% higher than other people he described the situation same as in indian companies. Fortunately he moved to Australia and he settled down in Sydney with PR. Question is H1b can be given to only few international students and job prospects for international students is lower as compared to US citizens due to Hb.

Okay, studied in US, and living in US since 2014, and I kinda get were his is coming from, but trust me coming to US has changed everything for me and it does for majority of the people, and yes I was little confused too back in 2014-15, the things he is talking about ... "Purpose", well sometimes (mostly) you will get your purpose once you come here. It's not a easy decision and not a decision one should make in a blink , but I don't think most people are this naive that they take these decisions so lightly, yes there are negative aspects to this whole journey, I wonder wat doesn't, he said ask yourself 'is this for me' , there might be a alternative, sure there might be, but my friend there might be more alternative to that alternative, and so on.. studing abroad opens horizons for you, that itself gives u a purpose. This video can be very confusing for a person who thinks they will come to US and get a job, that's his purpose (for now), you cannot just downplay it. Maybe it's because he has no experience in india at all. I know that situation in india can be daunting, india is not there yet.. the only thing u shud worry about is skill, develop the necessary skills u require for jobs and that's it. Everything else will be on the line. Or else there is no purpose of life by that logic, one eventually dies... For all future students reading this, don't take his vdo negatively..yes some of the things he is saying might be influenced by his own thought process, but it's you who will feed you , so take a decision, stick to it, come with open mind.. be "over prepared". Work hard and u will GET your purpose if u don't have one already.

Very well said, US is far to difficult and expensive to study here just for the societal norms. Also, to add to that do not come here with the intention of migrating, consider your years working here as on work visa and eventually one day you will have to return to your country. This mindset will help in future planning and help you to escape the mental toll it takes.
I am a sophomore majoring in MIS. Unfortunately, in my university, the MIS program is not considered for the 3 years of OPT (i think it is because is a bachelor of business admin under the business college). Would you recommend switching to Data Science in order to take advantage of the OPT?
If 3 years of OPT is important for you, pick a major that is as close to MIS (assuming you enjoy MIS) and is also classified as STEM. You can often do that by looking at the courses in the major. You do want to be careful about how changing a major will affect your graduation date.

I am not gonna go to USA for undergrad. I am into financial markets and intraday since Class 11. I am gonna study practical courses in statistics, economics, mathematics by trying for the IPM PROGRAMME IIM Indore. I am studying for the skills and knowledge and don't feel like going for a job. I am self employed and will be able to manage myself. US is strict with self employment so no. And I may, do an MBA from top universities in India just for the experience. So no job, no to USA, yes to self employment and new ventures in India

I get what you're saying. People need to fix their mindsets.
I think lot of people are confused whether they should come to the US or not if you are Indian or Chinese. Do you want the one line answer? Ok, I will give you the answer first: DON'T COME TO THE US!
Now let's move to the explanations. Let me tell you what happens with most people who come to the US. They come to study and then they want to stay. This happens with most. If you think I am wrong ask the Indian or Chinese people who currently come to study here.
So you will come to study here and then want to stay here. To do this you will have to be on H1B visa. And to have H1B visa after 6 year limit you will need an I140(a Greencard application). Living on an H1B is hard since you depend on the employer to keep your status. Now you have to do this until you get a Greencard. For Indians the wait is 195 years(LET THAT SINK IN) and about 18 years for Chinese. It is EXTREMELY stressful to be on H1B while you wait for the Greencard. Your health will suffer immensely. Don't understand why some people still keep telling Indians and Chinese to come, study and work in the US.
Once you marry and have kids while on H1B it becomes harder to leave the US. There is no hope for Indians and Chinese in US. So don't waste your time and money coming here. Many Presidents have come and gone and promised changes but no changes have come in the last 20 years but no one cares for the plight of Indians and Chinese. Trust me don't push yourself and your family into a Black hole that people of Indian and Chinese origin have pushed themselves for DECADES waiting for the Greencard!! People of other countries get the Greencard in less than a year.
So I shall repeat again: NO NO NO! Don't come to the US. Don't waste your time and your and parents hard earned money. US will use and throw you.
If you want to live, study and work abroad. Go to a country which has a good immigration policy like Canada, which grants Greencard in 5 years

I am in 11th right now,and I am engaging in a lot of extracurriculars,studying for SAT,So should I come to the US for undergrad or not,I wanna study computer science bcz I am really interested in coding,and even if I get into an IIT,getting to have Cs as major is super hard,and I always had a dream of studying in the Us since I was a kid
For most undergraduate applicants it comes down to finances ultimately. Can you afford to study or not, as simple as that.

Why don't they have a 7% country of birth rule for H1B. Then people from India and China won't have come. They give visas to people with no regard to the country of birth rule when it suits them for the last 20-30 years. Then they talk of greencard reform for the last 20 years and keep up the hopes of those workers and do nothing for 20 years. And after so many years these people are practically American in all ways. Except the system makes money issuing greencard acceptance without issuing a greencard and the wait is 195 years.
If I am promised some item but the delivery is to be made 195 years later. Isn't the guy making this promise exploiting me?!!!

US should refund the greencard money of people and tell them to go home if they don't want to do the right thing.

bhaiya u came to know WHY only after going there nah, are u expecting that can one sit in india and understand about all the countries in one year and that too when u are just 16-17yrs ..difficulty kaha nahi hoti .....look at yur own journey how u were when u left india and the slang that u have now totally american are u today ready to go back to india which has not really changed much since u left besides job and money other factors like infrastructure , early settling in life ,having your own car house , travelling around seeing places all becomes more feasible and much earlier in your life with dollar power otherwise u have to average indian has to become 40yrs to hv basic necesities and is dependent on housing from parents of course if u r not a satisfied person then u will not be anywhere

I don't know an official way as it doesn't translate 1:1. If someone has experience with this, please help out.
Uiuc doesn't provide financial aid or scholarships to international students. Once you get admitted, after your freshman year you can apply for various types of merit based scholarships. If you're applying for Fall 2021 semester, SAT isn't necessary and based on your 10th and 12th grade score, your chances of getting in are high. It also depends on which major you want to apply for. All engineering majors have low acceptance rate, about 15-20%, around 10% for CS.
Because of racist immigration rules the system in the US is complicated. They don't have a problem with employing as many H1Bs from India and China as they want. There is no 7% country limit for H1Bs. There is NO limit to greencard petitions even though the current backlog is 195 years for Indians and 18 years for China.
But when it comes to giving a greencard, they are doing everything possible to deny that. Plain old exploitation and discrimination. If there was a country quota for H1B visas in the US these High-Skill workers would have built tech sectors in other places, like Europe, Canada, etc over the last 20-30 years.
US used these poor H1b folks who came legally, followed the rules completely and have no vote, and it is now getting ready to throw these people out.
I bet if there was a backlog of white people, they would change these rules in 5 minutes. Germany and Canada are better countries. The true meaning of fairness and justice is found in their legal systems. US is just exploiting and fooling people. People should not come to work and study in the US.

No harm in dreaming but consider all aspects of your decisions with the pros and cons. Think about why this is important for you and if you're ready to make a bunch of sacrifices to make it happen. Some might say "the American dream" is cliche, dead or whatever but if it's important to you, pursue it.

The point Hersh is trying to make here is that people just blindly choose to study in the US. It's about those who don't have a purpose. We must agree that earning in dollars is everyone's dream but ultimately if that is not amalgamated with the purpose(or passion, or interest in a specific thing/subject) the journey will be struggling.
Manali I think you didn't understand my video really well. Bruce Wayne has put it correctly, it's about knowing your purpose and knowing your why. It's a tough journey and having that why will help you persevere the tough years
Omg, Is this a real problem for those who just go to university (US/EU doesn't matter)? I'm studying my passion in San Francisco (I'll be a Game Developer). For me and for most of my classmates was obvious and clear that: we HAVE TO know WHY ARE WE GO TO THE UNI, what dream or goal leads us, - BEFORE we actually sent our applications (even before the Personal Statement Letter)! If you want just ran out from your country - that suck scenario. And of course, you have to speak English fluently...
According to the research (just google) you have to be able to recognize at least 12-15,000 words for the comfort study process and have C1-C2 (NOT FAKED) CEFR level to comprehend not just words, but the meaning ambushed behind the construction of these words (we call them sentences)!
If students do not match these requirements, OFCOURSE they will have problems. And it doesn't matter if uni says that 6.5 IELTS is enough. NO! Not enough! Disastrously NOT enough! They just want your money and then when you'll get nothing, in the end, they would just say "ou, it's not our fault. You weren't good enough".
Damn, guys, WTF is happening to you in your countries so you break fundamental rules and make thoughtless actions? Never ever think about studying abroad, if all your knowledge is just a tricks "how to take high score on the key admission exams/tests". It doesn't work!
You will never succeed in your attempt to trick the system, because if we are talking about "international education", the "system" here is our nature (how we comprehend and use language and navigate in the culture this language represents). STOP USING F_N TRICKS, pals!
You have to learn for at least 5-10 years: the language, culture, politics, law systems, etc of that country where you want to move. As well you have to be already integrated into the local community (at least online) before you will buy a one-way ticket. You have to know for sure: where will you live, what will you do for a living, who are those guys (locals) who help you do not go mad in another country, etc! And the most important thing is that you should know what to do next, after graduation!
