as an Igbo boy who had a lot of what i'd call "a cultural identity crisis" growing up, people like Chinua Achebe and Chimamanda who are also IGBO, helped me understand and be proud of a lot of things. particularly being IGBO.
seeing you quote Achebe was very heartwarming. especially since, the idea of the story of the hunt glorifying the hunt is something that I had to deal with concerning the genocide of my people in Nigeria. Achebe and Chimamanda have written "There was a country" and "half of a yellow sun", respectively - books that shed light on that genocide.
Igbo's use a lot of proverbs. I hope you'll have time to read "Things fall apart"
EDIT: Chimamanda was recently given an Igbo chieftaincy title of "Odeluwa" which means "one who writes for the world"

Such a nice coincidence that you referenced a quote from one of africa's greatest writers. Chima'Amanda talked about discovering african literature and writers and one of the names she dropped was Chinua Achebe(widely considered father of african literature... At least for the anglophone Africans). In his 1958 novel, Things fall apart, he wrote... 'until the lion learns to write, every story would glorify the hunter'.
It's great that we all are educating ourselves about different places and cultures. You are doing a great job, keep it up.

I recently watched a video where an AA accused Africans of wanting to be associated with them now that AAs were popular. I hope her response sunk in for them. She sais, "you have always been popular". Most of us grew up listening to AA music and every now and then reading something about AAs. I remember some very few copies of " Right On!" magazine. Don't know how we got those, I hope I remember the name correctly.
