Thanks for the easy to follow demo. I'm going to change my blades which are 15 years old and definitely need to be changed.

Thanks man! I bought this planer used and luckily I was able to flip the blades instead of buying new ones.

I have the same 22-580 planer. Bought it new back in 2005 I believe. It has been a great tool with no problems and has always worked well. Still using the first edge of the original knives, but I purchased an extra set of a few years ago on eBay to have as spares since they are getting hard to find. I have always kept it clean and maintained but the blades probably need to be flipped around now as they are starting to show a few nicks in the planed material. Good video man.

I have a 12.5 inch model. Blades changes are exactly the same. I have changed my many times... I usually can find new ones on ebay at a decent price.
    Thanks of the video

any trouble of it not feeding right at the end of the cut?i changed my blade and the only problem is at the end of the board the feeder just stops and the last 1/4' of the board stays in the planner

You explained that very well. I haven't got a planer yet, but it's on my want list.

***** unfortunately there isn't a Craigs list in the UK. I hear about it a lot on you tube. I think I'll get one on Ebay at some point.

I started trying to take mine out using hex wrenches but could not find any that fit and then looked really close and noticed that the screws had torx heads.

Thanks Christopher Demetrick for the quick advice on the planer blades. I was given this planer and there is a minor chip in the middle of the blades. Now that I know they are two sided I will stop searching for blade replacements.
    Thanks again!

Dynamite! very useful, Thanks! kept it simple, I have a Delta 22-540, very similar-just required a 5/16" wrench instead of an allen

What if you were just stubborn and managed to get some sharpness on the blade? What does a new blade cost

Thanks Chris. Didn't even know you could flip the knives. Bought a new set at Woodcraft for $56. Would Have bought them anyway cause I heard Delta has stopped making these knives. Good excuse for my to upgrade to the DeWalt DW735.

+Mark Christopher I had a similar problem and found that their is a dead zone in the switch that goes between low and high speed selection. you need to just toggle a few times to get past the dead zone

Mark, if your using this tool when its really cold the rollers have a known problem for doing just what you described. I had it last winter. Also you might want to wipe them down some pitch or residue will give same result.

Keep 1/4" plexi pieces around and shape them into scrapers. I run a few pieces too small for other uses through my band saw or table saw to make [ballpark] 3/4" strips. Then I cut them with the miter or shape them on my belt or drum sander so the end is about forty-five degrees and the part your hand rests on is rounded.
These are great for scraping things you don't want to gouge, be it your planer blade seats or your fridge.
I keep a couple in a kitchen drawer, a few in the tool box and gave a few to friends who needed something new to lose.

Thank you for taking the mystery out of the planer, when you say 30mins, is that for one blade or two?

Off subject. Hey Chris I purchased the same craftsman table saw. I was wondering if you had problems with the blade being out of allignment? I am off by a lot. Just curious if you had to mess with the trunions and was it a pain if you did? Thanks and I enjoy your videos.

Hey Mike. I know you left this comment over 3 years ago but i was wondering if you could help me out. I have the same issue sorta. The shelix head is on it’s way. Were you ever able to get yours on this planer? I think i can figure out how to install it I just wanna know if this model design can switch to it or not? Thanks

@@coltenjoseph5422 I installed it. I just figured it out. It wasn’t too bad. Probably should have recorded it, and uploaded it.

You don't have to take the screws out..just loosen them enough to get the blade out...I use needle nose pliers...
