Commuting By Bike To Work in Japan - My New Commute
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- I am a daily bike commuter living in Japan and this is a video of my new bike commute to work in Nagoya, Japan.
My old bike commute was an hour each way along the river cycling paths, but my new commute path is now only about 15 minutes in the suburbs.
It's a big change compared to my longer bike commute, but it still feels great to go to work every day by bicycle.

I like how for most people, we're trying to reduce our commuting time. But your commute is so enjoyable that you're trying to add extra distance lol
Wow, you really clean up nicely! LOL Dressed for success. Btw, the video and audio quality is excellent! Nicely done.
Thanks! 😊 Part of the job
I really like what you're doing with the One X2, it suits your style of videos really well, and the quality looks great. It makes your videos more immersive, like we're actually there.
Loving this camera, it takes the hassle away from filming so I can just focus on the ride while showing more details :)
The extra export step does add some extra time though and too bad it's not 4k yet.

Looks a lovely commute. I met a girl here in Dublin from Nagoya recently, she was shocked that I knew so much about her city despite never having visited....
Indeed that route looks better that the previous one. Cool Tetsujin statute by the way.
I don’t know how you do it, I mean recording the video and going to work at the same time. If I was in your shoes I would be so stressed and not having a good time. I really admire ppl like you… cheers bro
It was tough at first, but it gets easier with practice. A lot of my older videos would be abruptly ended because of me cutting it too close to work 😅
I bike commute to work everyday here in Tochigi too, because I can’t drive a car 😂
Only takes about 15 minutes and the place is beautiful!
Bikes > cars
That thumbnail!! Something about riding a bike suited up, looks so cool 😎
Thank you!
@@TwoWheelCruisejust wondering why aren’t you in your videos anymore ? I miss seeing your vlogging and commentary .. when and will you come back?
Nice, relaxing video, great quality! I miss my 'almost daily' commute since Covid. It has been over a year now and weather permitting I would do a 22km - 27km commute to work, usually the 22 on the way there and the nicer 27 on the way back. Currently it is more down to the weekends or a quick ride before or after work. Japan is looking very nice, I love the absence of unnecessary signs!, The Netherlands is cluttered with those
Nice day for a ride ......... 70 K here we come !!
The 360 was pretty neat. For a second, it looked like you were hovering a bit. Keep up the good work and be safe.
They're nifty cameras
@@TwoWheelCruise for sure.
Awesome! We got the new commute video! 😁
Feels good to be back 😎
very good quality on the video, thanks! Stay safe, Cruise!
and your wife too!
Thanks 👍
Camera looks awesome! And the audio quality is great. :)
Great video, spring in Japan is great, the camera is really good, I like the 360.
Thanks!
What a beautiful commute. I agree with you on how both cameras are good for different situations. The 360 camera is great for showing off the environment and vlogging while the go-pro is great at making us feel like we're along for the ride. Because of the warping of the corners with the 360 camera I don't feel like I'm there as much, feeling more like a disembodied sphere floating along. It feels more like a video. With the Go-Pro I feel like I'm on a bike since there is a better sense of speed and a more grounded and focused view of the environment. There is less distortion in the image. I want to hop on a spin bike and watch while I pedal along with you. Because of this I do prefer the Go-Pro.
Exactly like you say. I'll likely keep using the GoPro for the longer pure rides, and keep this when there's more I want to show around.
Awesome watch as always. I agree both cameras are awesome at what they do. Maybe if youre on a long ride with Thuong you could mount one of the cameras on her if she's willing while you mount the other and do cuts between you guys. Eitherway, love the vids and your narrations. Good escape and perfect content to watch while stuck inside working!!
That sounds like a fun idea! We've got multiple cameras and mics now, so definitely possible.
Ohoy Noypi!!! 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
A very nice video, very relaxing to watch
Excellent quality with the new camera. Any plans to attend any outdoor Olympic events? P.S. YT ads were really targeted on this one for Rapha bibs & Honda dirt bikes. Stay safe and healthy to all.
Thanks Frank! Sadly no time off of work for me as I am the only native teacher at my school and off days are all decided by the school.
Nice to see we're getting some targeted ads, though ironically on the video where I'm not wearing cycling gear haha.
What odds are you giving of the Olympics being cancelled?
Belgian olympic team just got vaccinated last week and I'm guessing other olympic teams are also getting theirs, probably a good chance the olympics go through if the athletes are mostly vaccinated.
Road cycling races has also been going on for almost a year now and very few cases of people getting covid from it so there's already an example of outdoor sports being held safely.
Thanks for showing us your commute, looks like a nice route not too busy. I used to commute to work on my road bike Twenty three miles a day in all weathers when I was younger for about 6 years. Unfortunately I have moved home and job and have a car now, only cycle for leisure nowadays but it was good at the time.😀👍
Can't complain, but I do wish it were a little longer :)
Love the new video by the 360… great perspective is this the new version? Alway look forward to your commuting bike trip… had the pleasure of riding in Kyoto during a vacation… was too awesome hehe
Nice commute! Nagoya is pretty flat. I was commuting too, but it was uphill one way. Pretty steep that I needed two Famichiki to get up there.
Thank you, really enjoyed the ride (and the camera is perfect IMHO, on a big screen, it's really immersive)
Thanks!
Thank you Cruise for your Vlog. Long time coming... really appreciate your videos. ;)
Cheers! :)
Hey 10 minute bike commute sounds great
I really enjoy your commute videos. Stay safe and healthy Cruise ✌🏻
Cheers!
I cannot commute in a suit and tie not even 5 min...besides sweating it is so uncomfortable. I was in Japan two summers ago, and the heat and humidity are crazy. Great that you can do it and I always enjoy your videos!
I commute to work by train. I miss cycling too but it will take 45 min each way in my new job. Great video! Camera and audio were excellent.
Thanks! My old commute was about that long ;)
@@TwoWheelCruise Really? So, it’s doable! Might do it one of these days. Thank you. :)
Definitely doable, better than the train IMO
@@TwoWheelCruise The train was fun at first but sometimes I’d rather walk during peak hours if it’s just 20-30 min on foot. 😅
this camera is way more better than the chest one
thanks for the video
Thumbs up on the 360. A little bit of weird distortion for the buildings on the sides now and then but the view switching was nice and smooth. Such an awesome time of year in Japan!
Thanks! It's a great time of the year :)
Nice camera and beautiful view🎈🎈
Thank you 🙂
Great video! Thanks for the ride!
Cheers!
The commute looks pleasing with the river stretch. Would love to ride with one day until then, awesome video
Thanks! Always nice to relax by the river.
riverside paths are always nice. the ones here looks nicer, smaller, thought the wide open ones in your longer commutes give you more options. looking forward to more after-office explorations
After office is too dark 😅 gonna be pre work Haha
Good stuff Cruise! A lovely commute and pre-work work-out. Can't believe the shirt is still white at the end of the video. Maybe bugs just like me! Stay safe over there.
I like the 360 degree camera because it gives a full view. With the GoPro chest-mounted your arms block a considerable portion of the view. If the GoPro was helmet mounted it would be better. Keep up the videos I love them!!!
Thanks!
That's one pleasant commute along the river path. Bruce Springsteen was onto something when he wrote The River. Please
keep well and safe during Covid.
Cheers!
Very cool vlog👍👍 thank you for sharing your trip to work. Stay healthy and happy. Regards from Jakarta🇮🇩🙏
Cheers! :)
Very pleasant commute, thank you for sharing
Cheers!
I would say the stabilization is amazing. I also tried to film some 360 videos with the camera mounted on my handle bar lately and I was very happy with the video quality as well as the freedom of re-framing in the post production.
Come to think about it, would you consider occasionally uploading a few 360 videos (which UA-cam supports!). It doesn't need to be very long but I think it's gonna be very interesting.
I've been very impressed with the stabilization, especially considering it's handlebar mounted. Body mount is even better. I would like to try uploading full 360 videos, but my microphone audio isn't syncing perfectly with the video for some reason and the native audio isn't that great. I might need to try plugging in a mic directly.
Agree... it is not great... at all
If I wore my office attire when I plan to bike to work I'll surely be drenched in sweat like I went for a swim. Lol. Looking good though Cruise!
Also that bike graveyard is interesting! It says Bridgestone so it may be all Bridgestone cycles!
I'll be drenched in sweat come Summer
Very nice video quality and informative vloggs.ride safe and stay safe.
Thanks ✌️
Looks like an awesome place to bike commute! Here in the Philippines I'd be sweating buckets before I even leave my house. Not a problem though, I've even gone on speaking engagements on my bike and usually my commute to the city is around 30kms one way. Awesome video as always. Ride safe, TWC!
It will be crazy hot here in a few weeks until October, so I'm enjoying the cooler weather now while I can :)
@@TwoWheelCruise Shared this with the Bike Scouts' Facebook community here in the Phiippines! Bike Scouts is my volunteer bicycle messenger project for disaster response. We're working on bicycle mobility adoption across the country. Looking forward to your upcoming videos!
The roads in Japan look nice a smooth compared to here in Michigan, potholes and broken.
Way better roads here, but sadly no dirt roads and MI has way better MTB trails despite the lack of mountains.
And less noisy cars 😁 not like here in philippines
The route looks really nice and relaxing. And the camera works great too. Exactly how I was imagining it. I still probably prefer the GoPro for longer rides where you just want to settle in and see one view though.
Thanks! I agree, I'll probably keep using this for shorter rides with more to show, and the GoPro for longer get in the groove kinda rides.
Cool easy commute,Cruise!
Nice and easy :)
feels weird not seeing your arms on the sides of the screen anymore 😆 the stabilisation is so good it's like you r just floating along
My arms will be back soon enough haha ;)
Great video! 😊👍
Isn't the FOV a little too big? The image is quite distorted close to the sides. Other than that the quality is great. Keep it up!
Yeah, it does warp things near the sides. This view seems to retain the best quality, but I will experiment with some more narrow views next time.
lovely route, hopefully this whole nightmare gonna end soon so I can visit Japan again, this time to ride a bicycle.
Thanks! Hope things get back to normal soon.
The 360° camera is a winner 👍
Thanks!
oMG, i could eat off those streets !! Not a speck of dirt or anything. So clean.
Yep, it's great
I'm also a bike commuter, but i get sweat all over my back with my backpack. Weather here in Philippines it's so hot, and sometimes rainy.
Lots of rain here too, but only Summer is hot
Good wide angle 💮💮
thumbs up to the 3d camera!
good daily routine .
Great video! I’ve been thinking about riding to work everyday but I thought 50 mins is too long. After seeing your old commute video I decided to give it a go and it feels so good!
Question, do you ride in raining weather? What kind the equipment/accessories you recommend under those conditions?
Go for it! Under 1 hour is fairly doable. I rode in rain and made a video for that. It helps having a good rain bike and a nice change of clothes at work.
Love that you're commuting in shirt and tie
😎
I will do this next week since I just change my job and it will also reduce using the motorcycle and it saves our natural gas
Awesome!
Hi Cruise, I really like your commuting videos :-) Don't you miss the sportive 1h ride in your previous job? Btw, I am always impressed on how you can speak clearly and ride safely (I would have already crashed a couple of times or mistook my way 😅). PS/ Image stabilization is great and cool to see backward as well.
Take care 👌
Sometimes yes and sometimes no :)
I have a problem with selecting the front and rear gears while cycling inside the city, especially at crossings, stops, ramps, etc. Could you please make an instructional video about the correct and convenient gear shifting during commuting. Thank you very much.
It would depend on how much variation of elevation there is in your city. Where I live, it's fairly flat downtown with climbs going further away. I run my biggest gear in the front, and just use the last three/four smallest gears in the back.
That is, this is all for paved city roads. Off road is a different story.
I think I like this camera best, but the really small "magnetic" camera also.
i don't care how light the commute is, i sweat so easily, can't imagine commuting on a bike.
I'll be sweating this summer 😅
our office has our own shower rooms, so I shower once I arrive in the office after biking. Maybe if you are a member of a gym nearby your office you can shower there. :)
Same. Almost made me sweat just watching. I still commute though. Fortunately my work has a shower I use. One pannier with clothes, towel, and soap 👍🏻
Deodorant might help
@@onebicycle3772 that will depend on the weather.
My mother in law lives in Nara. Hope you can make some videos there. Stay awesome.
One of our first dates 😅
That camera is great
Thanks! :)
been a while, nice to see you got a new gig and subs up! How do yo find commuting in work clothes?
It's not so bad for short distances.
Hi, would you recommend a "aerobar" installation for daily office commute. For comfort and relaxation
Not really, aerobars are really dangerous and destroy your reaction time in an emergency.
@@TwoWheelCruise but what if I keep it wide apart. Wider on elbow and a little narrow on grip like a triangle Δ
I like the 360 camera. Very clear and stable. Your commute looks great. I like the train yard. What does Thuong do while you're at work? Thanks for sharing...😎👍👌👊🚴♂️🚴♂️🚴♂️🚃🚃🚃
Thanks! She works on her walking channel and other projects.
The only time I was able to cycle commute in Japan was the three days after the 3/11/2011 earthquake when no trains were running. In fact just about any Japanese company of any size in the major cities will prohibit cycle commuting due to the risks. Japanese roads are unbelievably good and the riverside trails endless, but the fact is Japanese roads are quite narrow and many don’t leave any space for bikes. This video shows a special case, an English teacher in a rural area with quieter, wider roads with sidewalks wide enough for both pedestrians and cyclists. As others have pointed out, arriving at the office dripping in sweat where there are no showers is not a good look.
Does your bike have FSD Beta?
😝
Is the camera fixed to the handbars? Would love to see the set up and how you edit the footage
Yes, I talked about my setup here ua-cam.com/video/8fAUrHTWGlg/v-deo.html
It’s bending the buildings but nice and clear does it need adjusting
Will try a more narrow view next time.
bike to work is best..👍👍
Yes 👍
Video quality is great! I do however would still like to see your hands shifting gears
Thanks! I'll be mixing it up with the chest mount sometimes.
I’m curious......you said all English environment.......what grade are your students? Has their level reached a high level? Good video......👍
camera is super nice
Thanks! :)
Sounds like you have a good and stress-free job right now. Does that play into your future plans for where to live?
It's stress free and good under these current circumstances, but 0 growth opportunities.
@@TwoWheelCruise Agreed.
Great video I just wanna let you know I like the 360 but I like the GoPro chest cam better and the GoPro has a bit better audio
Thanks! I'll be switching between them. This is actually the same microphone I always use.
@@TwoWheelCruise oh idk today it sounded a bit different I usually watch your weekly videos but today sounded different sorry about the confusion
Hi! Fellow bike commuter. Love your channel. What bag are you carrying?
This one is from Craft Cadence ua-cam.com/video/l8T8gN-GD5w/v-deo.html
@@TwoWheelCruise Awesome! I'm fairly loyal to Chrome Industries but I'm always interested in what other people use!
Nice commute.
Thanks! :)
Really enjoy watching your cycling videos. I am a older cyclist, in my senior years. Japan has always been on my list of places in the world that I have wanted to visit. I may not be able to visit there any time soon so watching your videos of your cycling adventures are very fulfilling. My personal riding has been limited due to the Covid situation here in the states, because I am in the high risk bracket. I did have the virus last year, spent 3 months in misery. Am better now and slowly getting back to riding. Take care, Blessings and Respect to you. Enjoy the Ride.
good day to you,,how much is the price of trek domane in yen?
Hi cruiser. Salam from Malaysia. Japan is my next cycling trip.
Have fun!
The term for train parking field is a "yard" or "rail yard." One bit of Japanese I do remember is 専門用語.
Man, what kind of dress wear did you buy that lets you bike comfortably? Maybe it's because my shoulders are a little wider as a strength athlete, but I don't know if I could do that so easily lol.
Stretchable breathable dress pants are nice :)
Hi Cruise! I will be moving to Japan and I am not sure if I should bring my gravel bike with me or buy a folding bike when I arrive (I plan to commute and tour with it), what would you recommend? By the way, I am really enjoying you channel! Thanks and cheers from Brazil ✌️
Both are easy to come by here, so bring whichever has more value to you
Hi Cruise, nice video. How do you have that camera mounted? It is very steady.
I go over my setup here ua-cam.com/video/8fAUrHTWGlg/v-deo.html
How fast can you ride those sidewalks ? What if you wanted to do 2h road bike ride around 30-33km/h ? Are there any routes for that ?
If you wanna go fast, best to go on the main roads. Lots of good riding in the countryside, not so much in the city.
Can't you leave one week's worth of crisp white shirts at work, then just change out of a sweaty dri-fit cycling top when you get in? Because goddamn the summer humidity is the devil's sweaty crotch. I'd probably bring a fresh batch of shirts (and maybe some ties) every Monday, then bring the one I used home everyday for laundry.
I wonder if there are formal-looking cycling dri-fit pants in Japan now that you can use as some sort of work uniform. That's why I love polo black shirts and blue jeans, perfect casual office uniform material
OMG, Trillions like and best comment for you because you are best on Earth and follower respect you, we need videos in Real 120fps or 240fps 8K HDR10+ Dolby Vision IQ resolution clarity quality and Sound in FullHD Surrounded 3D Dolby Atmos
very good
What camera do you use bro,?
awesome
Do you find a hybrid bike more comfortable than a roadbike on 15 mile + rides .
For me, road bikes are more comfy for longer rides. Hybrid bikes are good for shorter rides.
Covid basically screw me up.
I was hospitalized and expecting the worst, but I got a bit lucky, I'm not get caught by Covid.
But I lost my job because of that.
Thanks to many ignorant people out there, now I barely use my bicycle for keeping my shape up.
Kinda difficult for people who lost their job at their 40... Especially at Creative Industry.
Hopefully I could get a job, again.
I miss my daily 50KM commute.
Damn wish I could commute in my work clothes, its always humid and hot here in Singapore. 1Km is enough for the sweat to start
It'll be like that here in a few more weeks 😢
Vietnamese here living in Hochiminh city (Saigon), we're in the middle of the hottest season waiting for the rain, still biking to work 3 days a week. Luckily my office allows casual outfit. Maybe you can try leaving earlier in the morning?
Hi, sorry if this was asked Before but i couldn't help but notice that you often use normal non ebikes to commute to work. So my question is how do you avoid to arrive without being sweaty? I used to commute to my language class everyday and was forced to ride slowly just to avoid arriving like a mess lol
It's easier now that my commute is shorter. I would wash off with a hose at my old job haha.
How would you commute before when it was an hour? Did you change your clothes at work? Or…?
how are you not a sweaty mess after the ride?
Weather is still not too hot yet
it is okay to bike to work that long if weather is not hot
