As a Georgia native, "bless your heart " is not always an insult. Outsiders don't always pick up the nuances of inflection. Consider the circumstances and tone of voice.

LOL. I'm from NJ. I have spent time in the south on several occasions. And I have experienced both versions of "bless your heart."

Well said. I agree, I was raised by Georgia women and been around southern people my whole life and I have heard the phrase al along, (even said it myself occassionally) but it was always an expression of empathy and kindness. Personally, I don't recall it being used as an insult. It just wasn't my expericnce. I think it is mainly an invention of Hollywood more than anything else.

My wife and I are native Floridians. We have family there. When we retired she wanted to be near family, but I didn't want to move to Florida - insurance, crime, cost of real estate, etc. We ended up in Thomasville 30 miles north of Tallahassee a couple hours from the coast and none of Florida's negatives. Hurricanes are down to Tropical Storms before they get to us. Our neighborhood is split between UGA and FSU fans.

We moved from to east central GA from south FL in 72, bought some incredibly cheap land back then. One of the best things we ever did. Except for about 6-8 weeks of hot and humid, the rest is delightful. We have beautiful spring and fall seasons, winter refreshingly cool. Most of the people are nice and helpful. No place is perfect, just because it doesn't suit some people doesn't mean it's a bad place.

Bought property in the mountains of GA in 2018. Lived in Miami so we went back and forth throughout the year. Little by little we started feeling we did not want to go back to Miami, too hot, too crowded, too much light, noise, air and water pollution. Moved home base to GA last Oct. The view from all my windows is the beautiful Chattahoochee-Oconee forest. The lake allows us to enjoy water related activities. The air is pure, the forest is beautiful, the people are lovely. If I want a fix of culture all I have to do is drive to Atlanta. I love it here! I will visit Miami as a tourist but will definitely not live there.

As someone living in Central Florida I can sort of understand the appeal of Georgia. It has more colder days than FL but no crazy snow, housing costs, homeowners and car insurance are cheaper, gasoline is cheaper too. I have a good friend who lives in a fairly large nice 5BR/2BA house in Columbus, GA that Zillow estimates the value to be just under $300k (same house would be about $575k+ in Central Florida). People in Columbus, GA are actually more likely to be Auburn, AL fans than Georgia fans (like my friend who has season tickets to Auburn football games). I wouldn’t want to live in Columbus , GA but I’d consider living in one of the Atlanta suburbs like Buckhead or Alpharetta and I’d move to Savannah if I could find a job there.
Living in Florida where most cities/states are far away, that is another appeal of living in Atlanta, cities/states are closer you can hop in your car and drive South to Florida or North to the Carolinas and places like DC, NY, Chicago are just short plane rides away.
I lived in Dallas for a year and nine months and didn’t really like it. However, the one thing I did like about Dallas is that most other cities/states are just a short flight away. I like to travel so that is important, so I’d never live in Seattle as you are literally super far from everywhere.

I lived in the Atlanta area for high school, college, and my first "real" job. I feel like nearly all the growth of GA is greater, greater Atlanta. The only thing I did NOT like about GA was the humidity ("the heat is fine, it's the humidity"). As for peaches, South Carolina is the top peach producer.

Warning: if you choose to live below the "gnat line" you will need to adapt to wearing "gnat hats"-- if you are outside, mowing, gardening you will need a gnat hat. And mowing your yard is an expected requirement. Gnats, mosquitoes, roaches the size of mice (palmetto bugs/ pine trees) can drive you crazy. The heat and humidity can be horrible. The Varsity will be recommended but beware you are in for a Grease Fix - typical southern cuisine.

Georgia is nothing like Florida. It’s common for Atlanta to get down into the single digits several times each winter. In the mountains, there’s lots of snow

lol just go do research, you were in one county or one small area, the state is vast. North mountains, Piedmont regions, south GA, urban areas, exurbs, farm lands, suburbs etc. Look up Alpharetta, Suwannee, Blue Ridge, Elijay, Haiwassee, Sandy Springs, John’s Creek. The coast itself is over 100 miles from Savannah to St Mary’s.

Atlanta is my favorite city aside from the poor urban development and bad infrastructure which make it seem too crowded, even though there are far more populous cities in the world that function more smoothly. The real problem is excessive car dependence and ignorance regarding the problem.
