Adam, Your videos have been concise and a great resource for me. I too am a big guy, 6'5", and most of your additions are identical to things I have done or turn up when I do a UA-cam search regarding something I have purchased and am about to install on one of my bikes. One of your R1200GS videos led me to purchase the upgraded signal bulbs as described from the same vendor and although they seem pricey they do the trick. I happen to also own an Omega rally prepared 701 husky which you have pretty much been installing the same kit to yours that mine came with. I can tell you with confidence that you will come to love the Husky. In my opinion, between these two bikes I have a dream garage. Something for moderate off-roading big trips in the GS, which I can thrash if needed, and the 701 Husky for the tougher more demanding off piste style trips. I just ordered a Hammerhead folding shifter (size 14) for the GS and haven't looked at the bike yet to see what I am in for. Watching your SW Motek video answered my questions. Just wanted to pass along a nod of appreciation. Have to get back to work! THX man.
Highly recommend a side stand sensor guard. I’ve seen those get hit with a rock or even your boot and get damaged so the bike won’t start. I think Touratech makes one relatively cheap.
Adam If you like to stand while you ride ? I would recommend to adjust the lever a little bit up It works perfect on my bike I also have the forma boots 👍
I’ve been to SW Motech’s factory in Rauschenberg when I picked up my Trax Adventure System (which is fantastic). They make a lot of great gear. Hope this solves the issue.
The shifter is way too low for off-road riding. It should be as hight as the foot pegs if not higher. The problem is that the screw is to long to move up the shifter high enough. This happens with the standard shifter also.
You can grind BMW’s bolt down and move the stock shifter as high as you want. Saves you a couple hundred. Most will look at it and wonder why not just rotate the linkage on the splined transmission shaft - well they indexed the shaft. That’s why. It’s almost like the Motorad did everything they could to stop you from easily raising the gearshift
These guys should make a heel shifter. I got a custom one done for my Harley. Will see for options for the BMW. I can't shift this way because I wear boots with steel toe so the boot doesn't fit.
Does anything like this exist for Enduros? I have the same problem on my CRF250L: OEM shifter is too tight and I even ride in the same boots lol. If I can’t find an aftermarket I might just take the OEM, chop it with an angle grinder and bolt in a home made extension
It’s fantastic although I did break mine hitting a huge rock off road :P but that’s a 1 in a thousand chance sort of things. SW-Motech sells every part separately so they have a new foldable piece getting out to me soon.
haven't ridden one or seen one in person yet. I don't want to buy a first generation of a bike though. When I'm ready to upgrade, the R1250 will be a very well tested and improved motor.
In stock here - twistedthrottle.com/shop/ergonomics/levers/sw-motech-gear-lever-bmw-r-1200-gs-lc-adventure-13/ good luck! I've ordered from there before and they ship fast if an item is in stock.

Great. Thanks very much for watching and the comment. I'm glad it helped someone out there.

Yes sir! That mod is happening soon-ish. Been on lots of rides with people stranded. Guard is already in hand.

Nice video. What is the length from centr of mounting hole and alum switch foot in its longest position?
Nice bit of kit that Adam... Those Hobbit feet though lol
It’s bad. They’re nasty.
I bought the same boots and I have the same problem now. My foot is 10.5.
Glad it's not just me and my troll feet :P

Check out Hammerhead Designs. They sell lightweight collapsible shifters & brake levers for nearly every bike.
ii have a gear shifter with my Bmw GS F850, how would I replace?
Hi Adam,Are you happy with the new shifter after using it for a while.I have one size bigger feet and have similar issues when shifting.

Adam Chandler thanks for the response, sounds like it should do the job well.
What do you think of the R1250GS?
