- A24's newest release 'I Saw the TV Glow' arrives in theaters this very week. Luckily, we got a few minutes with Brigette Lundy-Paine, Justice Smith, and director Jane Schoenbrun during our Vulture Spot at Sundance, where they gave our host Jay Jurden some insight into the inspirations and influences behind this enveloping work.

there was definitely an inside joke between the 3 of them before they did the interview that had to do with The Mask and i fully respect it
If you are in your mid thirties and watched a lot of television as a kid you are simply going to love this film, it was wonderful. It could have easily slipped into camp, but somehow never did, it was sincere. The subtlety of how it played with the tropes of mid-nineties supernatural shows was masterful.
I love all the Jim Carrey movie references in this interview haha
👏 more 👏 trolling 👏 during 👏 press 👏 tours!! (I love the movie!)
OK. I don't know the back story, but I appreciate the Mask references. Looking forward to seeing the film.
Loved the movie, one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to see what Jane does next. Whole cast and crew seem like awesome people, I’m glad people like them have been given the resources to make something so special.
im surprised how short this was! i feel like there was a little more going on in this interview
These comments are crazyyyy. Good film.
Such a great movie ❤
Watch Candle Cove: Channel Zero
🗣️🤚🏾Nnnnnnno
Stop it.
@@-1hpent778 i saw the tv glow is a beautiful movie made by a beautiful director named jane schoenbrun❤️💘❣️💞😌😎😏😏
I did not know that Jay Jurden was a journalist
I was really hoping justice would somehow tie in a third jim carrey movie
Stanley Ipkiss
imagine making one of the most dreadful and upsetting movies of all time and then being like “this is actually like the part in the mask where a guy talks about masks”
Interesting arthouse film.
Not good, but not bad movie either.
The strong imagery, great soundtrack, and overall uniqueness of the film make the film unforgettable..
It wanted to be like a queer version of a Charlie Kaufman film, but I’m not sure it reached that level. I appreciated aspects of it, but it felt not quite sorted out.
Charlie Kaufman and a little too much imo
Nothing less meaningful than gender in this life
I relate to this but from an atheist side so i do not see how people relate this to only gay or trans. It can happend to any person for different reasons. The movie was bad though. I was so confused by the end as to what the message was. I went into it thinking it was a scary movie.
I don't think you not understanding makes something bad lol
@willow6willow after they explained it it was like ohhh that makes sense. But it was still bad. People legit got up and left mid way through it. I have never in my life seen people walk out on a movie.
@@willow6willowright lmao, it was a very well done film
It’s def not a movie for you then dawg. The director is nonbinary, and Owen is hinted to BE Isabel. That, if Owen would have gone with Tara into the dirt, could have been a transition from one reality into the reality of the Pink Opaque (Which is just an allegory for femininity), and if Owen had transitioned into Isabel for real, that would make Owen Transgender. Yes you can see it from multiple angles, but you cant claim that this movie is not both queer and trans. The whole conflict Owen faces is if he will become a girl.
@@AxioMunk published art is open to interpretation
99.9% of people wont understand this film. Its just awful. Self indulgent nonsense.
Watch Candle Cove:Channel Zero then watch this interview🤦🏾♂️ spoiler alert 🚨 it’s 1000 times better
I was disappointed in the direction he took this movie for it to be feature length cause the show was dope. Very similar but no 10 minute soft punk rock concert montages 😂
No wonder theres no white dude in the cast
Conner O'Malley and Fred Durst.
There are your just a racist
You can’t get any more “white man” than Fred Durst. Your point is moot. This movie was a trip. I can’t get it out of my head.
It had flaws, but I’ll take this over slick and forgettable any day of the week.
There are plenty of movies with white dudes out right now and coming soon: Abigail, Deadpool, Civil War, The Crow, The Fall Guy, Furiosa, IF, Joker 2, Speak No Evil, The Strangers, Twisters, Ungentlemanly Warfare.
You'll be fine.
Overrated and self indulgent. The worst of the worst. I read that the director wanted to make movies for "my people". Who are her people? How close minded can you be?
Him*
trans people, it's not meant to be understood by cis people, here's a sum of it, the main character is to scared to face there gender, and never does, like how they never faced how the pink opaque could've been real, and how it shows that on the inside (in the show) they feel like a woman
for queer/trans ppl who grew up different than most heteronormative people! hope this helps!
and "how close minded can you be?" is such a crazy statement to make when there are so many movies that already cater to what u seem to be looking for so maybe you should go rewatch some of those🙀😼
@@venusxiiu Couldn't agree more, most people don't get it. The storm of close minded hate is unavoidable. Wish it wasn't. But I know as someone who used to act like that, these people have a lot going on and I approach them with patience. Those who feel the need to hate are motivated by a personal feeling of inept.
Watch Channel Zero: Candle Cove then watch this interview😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒. The mask has nothing to do with this film. He just put dude in a dress. Candle Cove is way less anxiety driven actual horror and suspense this was just sus
