Back when MTV played outstanding live music with their Unplugged series.
That would make for a good theme for the live show
I think you mean, "back when MTV played music" at all.
Back when MTV played music.. 😂😂
Yeah... Springnsteen'was... Well... Different lol
Is MTV bad currently?
I don't want to make you cry, but tears from heaven from this unplugged album is incredible.
Fun Fact: Eric Clapton is the only person to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame three times, with the Yardbirds, Cream and then as a solo artist.
Overrated
@@PanglossDr Nah
Joe walsh should be in 3 times. James gang, the eagles, solo
And let's not forget his time with John Mayal and The Blues breakers.
Paul McCartney is in 3 times as well. Beatles, Wings and as a solo artist.
My favorite version of Layla.
Eric is one of the best guitarists .
The best! Listen to the beano album and Derek Dominos.. some the greatest guitar work ever.
'Old Love' on this album is a must watch.
Love it! Brings a tear to my eyes.
E.C. rewrote much of his catalog while he was grieving the loss of his young son.
Some believe this is the best unplugged ever, i say AIC is but this one was pretty awesome
Thank you for sharing this with me
Kaboom! Dig up ya'll. One of the monsters of guitar!
Fun Fact Jeff Beck, Eric Claton & Jimmy Page all came from the same place and all played in the Yard Birds
He loved Patty George's wife his bud, root of Blues.
Brad & Lex - your reaction video posted 11211 days after this performance was recorded.
If you like Eric Clapton, you really must check out J.J. Cale. Anything by J.J. Cale.
Sure this one´s great. But you have to listen to him palying Walking blues. And Rolling and tumbling
Back in those days most men still fancied women
React to John Frusciante "second walk" the lyric video. Phenomenal lyrics and melody
This is a more personal version.
This whole show off the hook. Miss the old “ Unplugged” shows on MTV. But honestly unless it’s artist from back in the day like Clapton wouldn’t be interested. Todays rock stars, “ Who are they” ?
Medical people do rarely make mistakes. Have a girls name stuck to the back of the tv , just in case.
If you’re going to watch Layla live, there are much better electric versions full of passion instead of this wine bar interpretation
Great album but I'm partial to the original.
There is an amazing live version of this with Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits)

I love this song.
Such a dishonor to the original Layla.
Unpopular opinion, but this version of Layla is straight up garbage. The piano at the end of the original is by far the best part of the song, and it's completely gone from this simply because Clapton didn't like being shown up by another musician. Plus the music itself is really dumbed down. You could literally sing a nursery rhyme to it.
Yuck... the original version is a million times better 😔
As a guitar player I can tell you the solo in this song is almost impossible. It may not sound like the most impressive thing you've ever heard but trust me, it's as difficult to play as almost anything. You don't venture up the fret board where he's at on an acoustic guitar unless you got superior chops. Especially playing live for an audience. Even if you CAN play it, it takes some balls to do that in front of an audience. It can go south real quick. Nothing sounds worse than someone trying to pick out a solo on an acoustic and it starts going badly. I've always been so impressed by Clapton's unplugged. You see and hear things you're not got see and hear from very many other artists. It's a masterpiece.
It most certainly is . And Eric makes it look easy .
I always loved this version of the song better than the original, so good 👍 💜
Clapton was one of those artists who could re-invent his songs with different arrangements and develop an equally powerful vibe. Most wouldn't tamper with a stone cold classic from their vault, and yet he was confident enough to smooth it out and lay it down.
You should react to his Tears From Heaven song. He wrote it about his 4 year old son.
The original studio version truly displays his passion for Patti Boyd, because he was so in love with her at the time.
This is the version by a man who has had 20 years to look back on a tumultuous season in his life. I had this cassette on a loop in my car in high school.
Me too!😎
He wrote this about George Harrisons wife after falling in love with her 😍 💕 ❤️ 💖
He did a one-off jazz version live with the legend Wynton Marsalis and his band. Absolutely wonderful
Also love the "funkier" version with Dr. John!
Have not heard that one, but MUST find it. Thanks.
Tears in Heaven. So sad. So poignant!
Prefer this one to the original; everything MTV Unplugged touched seems to have turned to gold.
Stay safe guys. With Ian on the way and passing so near to you guys. Love this song. His entire set was awesome. I miss when MTV was about the music and gave a stage for great artist to perform.
It certainly sounds less "desperate" than the original. Like he's had a few days to think about it.
I like Clapton a lot. Great guitar player and great bands. Seen him in concert a few times in the 70s and 80s. I prefer this version . No long repetition coda.
Please consider Eric’s original version of “After Midnight” (written by JJ Cale), and not the newer sped-up version, but the JJ Cale version!
Yes please
Check out the Jerry Garcia Band version of After Midnight > Eleanor Rigby > After Midnight from 3-8-80 for some of the most smoking improvised guitar you’ll ever hear
A great Unplugged version! Love this!
The original version is a more rock tempo. This one is bluesy. Both are great.
Brad & Lex, you’ll love his "Forever Man" and "Pretending” !!!!
The was from his MTV Unplugged performance. One of my favorite CD’s from one of the greatest rockers, guitar God.
Clapton is usually noted for his guitar playing but, here, & at least one other song, "Tears in Heaven", his vocals & lyrics really come forward beautifully. I can rarely listen to the latter because it is so emotional.
Love it - I have a niece named Layla, she was born at 1am - Layla in Arabic means night (dark beauty)
My daughters name is Layla... because of this song
Clapton is God
The entire unplugged album is worth checking out.
Excellent rendition from a legendary talent...as we would expect.
remember the album, in the mil overseas we didn't get music news(political) so here is this fold album, bought to check it out, wow!
Next, bell botton blues.
The Unplugged album is one if the best ever. Old Love is my personal favorite from the session.
I'll watch the video for "Old Love" just to see Chuck Leavel's Piano solo 🙂
@@kenransom560 Yes indeed!
I am NOT a fan of the original Layla and much, much prefer this version. I love this version
This was about George Harrison's wife, who became Eric's wife.
My daughter's name is Layla. It comes from a Hindu tale and represents feminine power.
Eric must have learned about it when he was in India learning from the guru with the Beatles.
Hi. Pretty please react to the brilliant, Buckethead specifically the live Soothsayer. He wrote it for his grandmother who had cancer and would play it for her to cheer her up. She would clap and laugh.
This performance shows why Eric Clapton stands on the top of the rock and roll mountain with a fairly small group of peers.
I really don't like this version. I know I'm in the minority but it just looses all the intensity
Brad & Lex
"Layla" is Pattie Boyd, George Harrison's (The Beatles) wife.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pattie_Boyd
Amazing...acoustic and electric. ❤
He was so in love with her...
Stay safe you 3, with Ian heading in, keep us updated if/when you can!! ❤🙏🏽👍🏽
Lex u should start putting ur headphones on ur baby belly so ur son can start appreciating good music. He can hear it for sure! Such a cool thing to do. BTW my daughter in law sings Danny’s song to my grandsons to put them to sleep or when they are sick. Sounds like a nice song for ur son also! Thank you peace ✌️
Truthfully, I like the Derek and the Dominos (Eric Clapton) version, from a decade earlier, better.
The fast version of this song is 🔥🔥🔥also.
Best version of the song, and I also believe its one of the best Albums ever made. Every song on it is good! Should react to everyone of them
Nice perfect song 😍😉💘
Absolute Legend 💛❤💓
I really enjoy this version, even more than the original
Ooops , BJ is jealous of Clapton ????
I only watch this channel because of Lex’s reactions . She appreciates REAL music and feels it .
Layla, is about George Harrison's wife? 😆 This is good, but I like the Rock version better.
You do realize this song was written about George's Harrison's wife Eric and George were best friends and he couldn't help but fall in love with his wife George thought it was more of a crush until he realized this song was more serious than he thought and he gave them permission to be together without any animosity
Thanks for the history :)) I knew it was about Patti, but I didn't know how this affected relations between George and Eric and Layla. Something as also written about her. She is a women with two of the best love songs in history written after her (I count this acoustic version as one of the best over the electric, but both are great)
I thought it was about cocaine
George wasn't happy but he worked through his feelings but is often quoted with a remark that he didn't care
Fortunately, George and Eric had the "bros before hoes" attitude and didn't allow a woman to ruin their friendship
Just over a week ago I watched Eric play this song live. Great concert!
This a truly amazing album, love the songs 'Nobody Knows you When you're Down and Out' and "Before you Accuse Me'
Give these a listen
ugh, a live version ...i say, always go to the original album, listen, gives 'context' ... do this 'knock off' wanna-be, after, if you like!
Ive always been a fan of plenty of music that is loud/fast/hard to understand, but when it came down to it, my favorite songs were the ones I could understand the lyrics to. Even a song like "One" by Metallica is accessible to me because I can understand the words. That said, with Layla, I have always kind of resented this unplugged version. THIS isnt a song to be done old and unplugged. Layla is a character from a story like Romeo and Juliet (but even older). PLEASE look into this very old story and see what this song is based on. That kind of passion...in a story about YOUNG love, you NEED that high-paced and EXPRESSIVE rocker. I dont believe that Eric Clapton is on his knees in this version...or that he's beggin darlin. It DOES sound like he's having a cup of coffee and talking about the weather. Unacceptable considering the original version and it's use of the original subject matter (and the personal story behind the song as well).
Now check out the original album cut by Derek and the Dominos, don't worry, it's still Eric Clapton.
How about Pepper by the Butthole Surfers, or some of the old music on the Fallout 3 soundtrack for instance Butcher Pete, or Cole Porters Anything Goes. Hell by the Squirrel Nut Zippers is fun too...
Horrible Version!...Much to slow...nothing like the original!!
Listen to Derek and the dominoes.. Group that includes Eric Clapton. Original layla .. other songs .. bell bottom blues.. why does love have to be so sad
The Song is about Pattie Boyd. Eric Clapton fell in love with her. At the time Patti was going out with George Harrison.
IT'S JUST HIS ACOUSTIC VERSION IS ALL BRAD AND LEX 😊 AND THE HEAVIER FULL TILT ROCK VERSION IS OFF OF HIS MASTERPIECE 70 ALBUM ( LAYLA AND ASSORTED LOVE SONGS ) 😊AND THIS WAS FROM MTV, THEY HAD SEVERAL (UNPLUGGED ) CONCERTS AND 2 OF THE BEST ONES WERE : NEIL YOUNG AND THEN OF COURSE THIS ONE ERIC CLAPTON 😊
Plot twist: Layla is rejecting him because he won’t get vaccinated.
I like Eric Claptons music, even though he's a racist 😞
It's just a bluesier acoustic version. Nothing earth shattering. I prefer it.
Don't forget there's a electric version by Eric Clapton
Crossroads live 2007 - Queen Of Spades
I've never been able to get into this version of Layla. Clapton sounds like he's turned into a "lounge lizard" to me here.
Legendary…and he’s not some leftist clown clown either…stands up for his rights ands still playing his ass off today
As much as I like this song, I prefer the album version.
Actually the original is done by Derek and the Dominoes and a superior guitarist (Duane Allman) played lead guitar. That is the one you hear on the radio all the time.
Amazing ! You should react to the Beatles. It would be incredible !
You guys should react to Old love from this concert.
Also react to other live shows, like Nothing But the Blues (he is in his best shape ever), Live Cream, Crossroads 2004, 24 nights and One more car one more rider
Will no one speak on the Persian love story that this is based on? The lyrics outline Majnun's slow slip into madness
I like the electric guitar and the piano in the plugged in version of this song much better.
You must listen to the original. Love this version but a lot of people were pissed off when this came out. The original is 🔥
Hope you guys are taking precautions and staying safe from Hurricane Ian
Ya have to love whoever got MTV to agree to do the MTV Unplugged series.
Running on Faith is much better from this soecial.
You gotta do San Francisco Bay blues next
This was done years after the original version came out.
A great unplugged version of the classic Derek and the Dominos song.
Live yes!!! Only way to hear Eric.
