Around my parts neighbors could call in on that mess and the City would force them to have it mowed because of code violation. Some of the jerks who own commercial lots can get by with weeds that tall but not residential.
Oh they're in violation here too. And yes, their neighbors could call in on them. Problem is, no neighbors. lol. A new house just went in nearby. We'll see if anything changes.
What do you want them to say, David? Not like he cut it for free, they paid him for a service. The thanks comes in the form of a payment, that's all any professional should need.
I was watching one of your videos earlier today and thought that was a great video to do slow motion in it. Love the slow motion mowing. Definitely something to look at
When I was a young teen, I went down to Corona, CA. to visit my Grandparents for a few days. I decided to mow their lawn for them, and while I was doing so, their neighbor across the street showed up with a brand new lawn tractor in the back of his pickup. Now in this neighborhood the streets are low, and the yards on both sides sloped up steeply from the road, and then become flat. I remember the guy unloading the mower, and then I heard him begin mowing. Beyond that, I wasn't paying much attention until I realized that it had gotten awfully quiet. I stopped mowing, and looked across the street, and there was no one there. And then I saw the neighbor climbing up out of the ground. He, and his new mower had fallen through through the top of the old septic tank.
I was driving home from mowing a lawn yesterday and should've taken a picture of a yard I passed by. Looked to be about 2 acres of pine trees and grass. would've been a playground for you with all of the pine cones lo!
I enjoy watching your videos . I believe that baffle behind the discharge chute is to help the clippings drop out instead of being pulled back around into the baffle again in a viscious circle . My Dixie choppers do not have them , but when I bought and installed my trac vac system it included one of those baffles to be installed with there system . I used it initially but ended up taking it off it didn't seem to help with anything , if anything it caused buildup of clippings to start at that point .
Excellent show! Although listening to the Cheetah I kept visioning a line of tanks rumbling through a city in France. The roar, rumble, squeaks, clinks and clanks. Mechanized Division Lawn Care...we take no hostages.
Bermuda is out in the fairways and roughs. Tifway which is a cousin to Bermuda is on putting greens. Tifway is super fine bladed Bermuda. Tifway at 5 inches tall will kill your mower engine. LOL It will lock that sucker right up. Tifway is the most dense, well I take that back. Zoysia is ultra dense too. Great videos sir as usual.
its obvious you care about what you do. you mow your clients lawn like if it was your own. good job man. i appreciate watching your videos. i just discovered ya on youtube. i instantly subscribed and will continue to watch. thank you for the good vids.
Well thanks for the sub and the kind words! You know, I have always cared about the final look of the yard, but even moreso now that I know UA-cam is watching!
Looks exactly like this lawn i used to spray back in 2012 in citrus springs FL..but then i saw the septic tank and was like "nope" he always wanted us to spray it...but never wanted to cut it :P
I had one of those on my old eXmark too, but I noticed my brand new John Deere with the 7-Iron Pro deck (60") does not have one of these. I'm glad, because all it did was collect more grass for me to scrape out later.
Yea, it's an annoying little plate. I've been told that it is very effective to leave it on though if you are running a bagging system. Actually, I kinda think that's the only reason it's actually there. I'd like to hear the explanation from Scag.
Something 2LookAt I saw this on Scag's web site: "Turbo-Baffle increases discharge velocity and prevents cut grass from reentering the deck cutting cycle." www.scag.com/velocityplus.html
Hooked on Photography Aha! Interesting. And it may be true but!, It definitely hinders mulching blade operation. And I was throwin grass even farther with it removed while using standard blades. BUT! What I haven't used in a long time are genuine Scag blades. It may just work phenomenally with their Marbain blades. I just found an old video of when I first got the Cheetah with the original Marbain blades on it. I'm gonna edit it a bit and post it. It's absolutely incredible how well it was cutting. And that was with the turbo baffle on! I think I need to get a new set of those blades.
Something 2LookAt Ok, cool. I've never tried the mulching blades up here because I have a lot of fescue mixed with clover and other weeds and I'm afraid it would get too pulverized and that mush would glue itself to the underside of my deck. It's bad enough in spring with just the factory blades. That was with my eXmark though. I just got the John Deere and I heard they do great in thick wet grass like the Scag Velocity decks, so I'm anxious for next spring to come so I can see how well it does for myself.
Man !!!! Hey Mike, Let me Start Off by saying that you have some Great Video's.... BUT..... This One" TAKES THE CAKE"....... What "AWESOME" Footage..... Of this Particular Yard, The Amount of "EFFORT" and Attention to Detail in this Video is SUPERB !!!! I Really Enjoyed this Video.... and That Deflector you took off did Make a Difference because you were going through some really Thick Stuff and it was taking care of it with One Pass.... Great Info from Countryside New York.... The Slo Mo Shots were Great and Looked Really Cool !!! The Weed Eating Footage was Great Too..... At the End , The Finished Product was Very Impressive.... That's What I Like about Yards Like this... That you can Make them Look New and Nice again..... That "CHEETAH" is Impressive....."THUMBS UP" Friend... :) This will be watched many more Times & Enjoyed !!!!!
You're up nice and early Danny. Glad you liked it. It was a video playground wasn't it? When it comes down to it, the yard has to be exciting for the video to be exciting. Realtime version coming soon. I'm sporadically rained in so I'm working on it.
LOL... No, Actually it is the end of my Day and Time to go to bed, I work the Midnight Shift 6pm To 4am...... Yes it was, Definitely a Video Playground..... :) Cool !! Realtime !! That will be a another good one.... Yeah, Rain is Happening also down here in Broward County..... I'm sure you got your share with that storm that just went through Florida.... OK Mike, It's Night Night Time for me so Have a Great day and Be safe Friend.
Pretty sweet video and I have to say the way you held that trimmer was interesting with your right hand in under the trimmer to sort of support and throttle the trimmer
Looking through the comments they evidently didn't notice in the slow mo that while you were trimming almost all the trimmings were going away from you hence no mutilation via trimming
That small part is called the Turbo Baffle. I had same thing on my 52 " deck on my Wildcat, it didn't come with a exit chute cover and that a No no here. So I got a chute door off of E Bay and the Turbo Baffle was one thing I had to remover to install my chute door. Its operated by hand by reaching down, and pulling up on the lever. My used mower was a home owner unit and had around 670 hour when got it. No Rops I would have removed them, most lawn have small trees, I like the door for many reasons the law was #1 and #2 was leaves spring and fall clean ups and heavy grass I like my lawns smooth and neat when done, I hate to see grass clipping blown into the street and grass clipping in flower beds and things that might get damaged, I'm insured, crazy if your not, But yeah they spread great out great on Scags mower decks. And yeah if your doing this kind of work have fun doing it I'll never get tired of mowing Motion controls beat a steering wheel any day.
u did a great job on yard always good to see u cutting tall grass when u do slow motion shots . fun seeing the grass flyin . trimmin was cool in slow motion too . keep up the good vids see u in next one.. idea for u, would be cool to see if owner would give u that safe in yard so u could tear it up with air chisel . that would be somin 2 look at .
Makes sense cuz the plate was restricting the left side of the shoot causing some grass to backup behind it. That backup was effecting production by getting in the way of the next blades of grass getting cut, the quicker it gets out the shoot the better it should cut.
That deflector plate is mainly designed for mulching. It doesnt need to be there if you aint mulchin. Its designed to make the grass stay under the deck longer.
LOL. Glad you like it Steve. There's another one out there who still hasn't called me this season. I drove by though and, yea, it's ready to say the least. Hang tight!
I know this was a couple of years ago but thanks for posting . I all ways cut these on high The problem I found with the plate removed for me was safety. I know the blades are spinning at 3500 rpm. So any thing coming off the blades is going to be travailing at 200 mph.but it seem OK
@@Something2LookAt The only way I can mow grass slops like this on these steep slops is to use the timer first. on the steeps part of the slop then mow it avoiding sloppy part of it
Haha! Yeah I was thinking the same thing. It looked like it was just monkey grass. It was even funnier because he destroyed it in slow motion. It’ll probably grow back. If it was that tall then it’s got good roots. I definitely would have asked the home owner about it first before destroying it like that. It needed a trim though.
Bermuda/Zoysia/Tiff and their numerous hybrid cousins are all Turf Grasses. They are used in the majority of residential lawns as well as commercial properties. The suggested mowing height of Bermuda is 4" during the hot months, slowly increasing the height for the winter time. Bermuda does not do well when cut to short, it exposes the surface roots, causing dehydration and root damage, leading to dead grass. It is the standard native grass here in the Plains states. That's what Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas are covered with. Kentucky Bluegrass, Fescue and other shade grasses, don't do to well here, do to the fact they require excessive watering and average temps below 80.
@Something 2LookAt why does Bermuda grass throughout the growing season turn brown on the lower to middle part of the grass blade and stay green at the upper part?
I love the videos you do, but the deflector shield, or whatever you call it, is a shield to stop things from becoming flying project tiles, such as rocks, sticks, and other debris.
Yes it has and without the turbo baffle the grass clipping that come out of the deck, its like snow out of a snow blower. Don't forget the gator blades they are the best, only real Gator blades made by Oregon outdoor supply.
Yeah, you been too cheap with that old no teeth junk machine, matching with your fat torso ragged cloth. You show up Like a beggar on your client door , calling them hot
If they don't spray well they will leave clumps. Here in Florida the grass biodegrades very fast and will be gone by the next cutting as long as it is sprayed evenly. If it were left in clumps, the clumps would stay.
Yes, I have high lifts on there right now and it throws it a crazy distance. But regular high lifts have trouble with the thick grass. I have yet to try the G5's or G6's but I will. Gonna try the lighter ones. The blades in this vid are Mamba mulching blades which are almost identical to Gators.
do you only do overgrown grass wanna see how good you are at lines and really nice lawns love mowing over grown grass myself too much fun for the before and after
Wonder what little critters you run in to in tall grass? Mice, snakes, voles, ?? Bigger creatures? I am hopin they run hard and fast away from the noise.
Your discharge is dependent on aerodynamics. The blades "suck" the air from the grass into the chamber and is propelled through to the discharge chute. I think the "claws" on the blade help that. When the clippings get to the discharge it is supposed to be directed by that plate out of the mower. The clippings and air will follow the path of least resistance, following the perimeter of the chamber. The design of that plate will have a lot to do with how it effects the discharge. Since you got better discharge without that plate, I wonder if it was supposed to control the force of the discharge. We would have to talk to an engineer to find the truth.
@@Something2LookAt Brilliant, so you also have a port folio in motion, happy customers and your neat work on show as an advertisement! Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing, I really enjoy your videos and seeing your work! All the best
To me, that plate tries to throw the grass out from under the deck. Looks like if you remove the plate, it will allow grass to be thrown back under the deck. A constant recycle if you will. I would call Scag and get a second opinion. They can tell you for sure.
Watching lawn mowing really relaxes and satisfies me

If you want it to spray out farther change from mulching blades to high lift blades!
Why do you want the cuttings to spray? When I was a child, we had to rake the lawn after losing. Early 70s.
If they don't spray well they will leave clumps. Here in Florida the grass biodegrades very fast and will be gone by the next cutting as long as it is sprayed evenly. If it were left in clumps, the clumps would stay.

Since you got better discharge without that plate, I wonder if it was supposed to control the force of the discharge. We would have to talk to an engineer to find the truth.
The Scag is awesome
Great job but no edging? That last shot looked pretty rough with overgrown edges.
Does the blade hurt if its on?
the taller stuff around the tree looked like Pampas grass..?
Yea I think so.
@@Something2LookAt That's an ornamental grass. They wanted you to cut it?
@@MarkBrown-uf8ct Oh yes. They didn't plant it there. They didn't even really know it was there.
Do you give discount for filming and all the camera shifting time? impressive machine and neat work
Yes! A few times I've done the whole clean up for free just to get the video.
@@Something2LookAt Brilliant, so you also have a port folio in motion, happy customers and your neat work on show as an advertisement! Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing, I really enjoy your videos and seeing your work! All the best
how low is your deck when you mow?
Is there a particular technique to use in order to avoid excessive grass clippings or is it just a matter of deck height?
Well, it's Gator blades or Mamba blades in this case. They have mulching teeth on the top side.
how much did you charge for this?
I was going to ask the same question
@@williamwhitney3730I'm thinking around $100.
@@alvinmc5593 funny
How much did you charge on that job?
nice.. nice job
What's the black "U" bar on the back of the mower for?
That is the roll bar folded in the down position. We all keep them down. When they're up the hit everything.
What kind of blades are those
@Something 2LookAt what music did you use for slow motion?
I got a 27hp bad boy and a hustler 23 up but I must say that scag does a great job. What engine and hp is it? Great job.
What kind of blade's are you using on that mower ?
I have Gator blades on it in this video.
If you trim up the lower branches of the oak tree it will be easier to get up under there to cut the grass
Indeed. Sometimes I just trim trees without asking. If they touch the ground, they're fair game.
if the slow motion part at around 10:00 was in 3D, it would look cool to see all the stuff flying at the camera
To me, that plate tries to throw the grass out from under the deck. Looks like if you remove the plate, it will allow grass to be thrown back under the deck. A constant recycle if you will. I would call Scag and get a second opinion. They can tell you for sure.
how much horse power ND engine brand is on your scan
Sunny day 🌞 up I stick with it
i think that very tall stuff around the tree are flowers of some type
