Just ran across this. My band from Long Island was playing a Rochester club engagement in Jan 1971 (DEELIGHTFUL WEATHER) when I saw an ad for an Altec Lansing PA system . It turned out the guy selling it was Marshall Styler. He told us that his band Duke Jupiter had lost their label deal with Mercury and that's why the PA was up for sale. It was a fantastic deal brought on by the highs & lows of the music biz. Marshall came down to the club "The Fountainblue" in Greece to hear us and socialized a bit too back at our motel .
I remember following this band back when i was just getting started in bands back in Newark NY. Merrimack Sound on Monroe Ave was where I took my keys and amps for repairs and Greg Walker was there getting his guitars worked on. It was when George was nearing the end of his life. This band had a big influence on me. I really dug the writing style-simple, but tasty rock and roll. It's how I try to write today. Thanks guys.
Sometime in the mid-1980's in Austin I was listening to some really hot band at this legendary 6th Street club called "The Black Cat Lounge". The band was called The Bushmasters or something like that. They did Little Lady and This is Japan and other songs. I complimented them one how great they sounded. One of the band members laughed and confessed they were actually Duke Jupiter. The band was in a label dispute of some kind and not touring under their own name while it was being sorted out.
I WAS THERE! In Austin and l talked to them out on 6th St and they said they were from RhaChaCha and l was like So Am l!!!! Then they name dropped Duke Jupiter and I was like WoW You Guys!!!! HahahAHA
What a great version of This is Japan. I was just starting high school when I heard this song for the first time. I had the album on cassette !!! Brings back some great memories.
I remember hearing them when I visited my cousins in Naples, NY back in the 70s. "This Is Japan" was my favorite! I've been hunting for them now for years! Only rarely find anything on the internet.
OMG!!!! I just creamed my spiderman underoos! I's born & raised in Rochester - how could I NOT have ever seen this before?!?!?!?! Wow! - Just TOO COOL!!!
There is not nearly enough Duke Jupiter on the digital media forum that there should be. I have been trying to purchase music for years and now its available on website but not Itunes. Hopefully this will change in the future. Thanks so much for sharing with us Duke Jupiter Deprived Individuals. LOL
Their first album “ Sweet Cheeks” was great. Chuck Leavell produced it. The songs and performances were great. They became this unfortunately. They sound great here but the songs just don’t stand out IMO. “Sweet Cheeks” is an amazing record and unfortunately is rarely heard. A gem of a southern rock album. Only available on UA-cam it seems
Great band. Great era. Timeless. Brings back so many memories.
Thank you , Duke Jupiter.
Talented musicians!!

Wow... hard to believe that was 30 years ago! I was the editor on this video and the whole series, Gap's Generation. The whole project was a blast!
It seemed like my parents had WXXI on all the time but I don't remember ever seeing this. Too rock & roll for their tastes I guess.
Saw Duke Jupiter mid 80's at Samurai Saki House in OKC.. also in Austin at Club Sandwich? 1989! Marshall & I blazed one outside-ha! Great band..

These guys are great! I knew Dave Corcoran back in the late '60s in Rome, NY. He was already a great drummer then...
