I have an 06 f250 and it can not be done like that. My radiator hose and shroud are in the way so no getting the allen wrench in like that. I don't have the clearance you do. Good tip going thru the firewall to get the nut loose though.
In forums, every other comment on this subject is that, this is a temporary fix thats dangerous. Basically, they say that youre remeshing the gears in your steering box and you can cause it to "go out". Have you had ANY problems since your adjustment?
@@str8burbn I went ahead and tightened mine about a 1/4 turn. I could have gone more, but that 1/4 turn made a big enough difference that I probably won't get back in there, so I'm not too worried about over-doing it
For anyone else who may read this and was in the same boat as my self, the adjustment made a huge difference. I'm guessing that my pump is wearing out and I know that the adjustment is "temporary", but it is still working great. I liken it to adjusting a chain tension on a motorcycle. Sure the chain and sprocket are wearing out, but making small adjustments until it's time to replace, is no big deal. If you tighten it too much, you're going to get problems, but you're not doing yourself any favors by leaving it loose.

I have to tighten my 350 usually every year Damn 10 inch lift on 40s always seems to mess with my box!!!
That’s a big truck I miss my 7.3 on 37”

I haven’t had any issues since the adjustment at all. Just can’t make it tight to where it’s harder to steer you’ll be fine.

I agree with little adjustments makes huge difference in driving. In time you will need to replace something but may as well make it last longer.
So both nuts are lock nuts and the allen is the adjustment?

Yes just make sure you check ball joints tie rods etc before adjusting
