  • Here's everything you need to know to setup EZBEQ on a raspberry pi, connect it to your MiniDSP and enjoy more and better bass out of your subs and transducers in thousands of movies! Many times studios remix soundtracks removing ultra low bass from the original. Other times films are released with just lackluster low end signal. This is just a couple clicks on your phone before you watch a movie to add real punch. It's free software so if you already have a Raspberry Pi, give it a try and see how you like it!

    Holy cow. I bought a MiniDSP without even knowing about this method of uploading profiles. I'm STOKED to set this up! This is why I never throw away a Raspberry Pi :)

    omg wtf this looks incredible!! I wanted to build a raspberry pi + DAC add on module, with balanced XLR line outs for L/R, HDMI (Arc) to take TV audio signal and amplify with fully EQ, limiter and compressor to make audio perfectly clear and balanced in all circumstances for hard of hearing mother.

    This is an amazing guide, my friend!
    Thank you so much for taking the time out to record it.

    Thanks for this guide. I had trouble the first time I tried to do it because I installed Raspbian Bullseye instead of Raspbian Buster. I went ahead and installed Legacy Raspbian Buster and also didn't change the static IP on the RPI4 but I changed it on the Google Wifi Router. This ended up giving me no problems and so far so good! It was all super easy after that

      Great to hear! There’s no problem with either os though. I upgraded months ago.

      @@COGuyStuffThanks for the heads up. For some reason for me I just couldn't connect. I restarted the whole process with Buster and it worked first try. Maybe I can upgrade now and it'll work but I don't see a reason to unless I'm bored

      No reason to if it's working.

    It'd be cool to write a plugin for Stremio which automates the loading of profiles based on default settings you choose (e.g. enable gain, set to profile 1), and it does this whenever a new film or series is loaded in Stremio (or Plex, or any other media player with script capabilities).

    Great video and interesting!
    What i did not get is what problem are we solving.
    Get more bass and magical add levels at low frequencies from were is those originate from? And why is the original streamed movie sound not "complete" as the movie maker intended it to be ?
    (I am only a simple 2ch stereo guy but use raspberry pi and REW + mini DSP.)

    • @COGuyStuff

      There are many theories why some soundtracks get gimped. And I agree in some cases, it’s solving a non existent problem, by adding more than what was supposed to be there. Most people that do this have crazy bass setups and love all they can get. But in some cases it’s crystal clear the studios for whatever reason killed the bass. Master a commander is a great example. The original dvd release has far more than the Blu-ray. All it does is boost what’s already there. It’s just been turned way down in some cases.

      @@COGuyStuff thanks for the reply!
      Ah, so with movies we have the same issues like 2ch. Depending on version reissue mastering and format. Their is difference in what SQ we get.
      So this software "correct" and normalize so that we get levels that we should had if all were present as it were intended to be.
      Is that a correct assumption?

    • @COGuyStuff
      @COGuyStuff  3 роки тому

      That’s the jist of it yes. But in many cases they added more just for fun ;)

      @@COGuyStuff Thanks! Appreciate your videos. I like the video of the treatment in the hallway and that you show before and after results.
      And the video that show how to get delay between mains and subwoofer with REW. That made it easier to integrate my two 18" OB subwoofers.

      Another thing is when i only listening on music then that is easier to set the appropriate bass leveks per album..
      So I use the shelf on the input that you thought me. And I did like you by copy all the settings to all four presets.
      Then I set on preset 1 +16 dB shelf, on 2 12 dB, on 3 9 dB and on preset 4 6 dB.
      So it is easily selected by remote what level of shelf is needed for a specific album/track.
      Thanks again for pointing me towards the right directions. 👍🎵🎶

    I have questions: I just bought a minidsp, haven't had time to set it up. Once I get my subs align and dialed in, that house curve, is it taken into account when using beq or is it just thrown out? Another one is, is beq only for like blu rays or can it be use when watching Netflix or whatever movies or shows?

    • @COGuyStuff
      @COGuyStuff  2 роки тому +2

      It’s for all sources, movies and shows if they are new or popular and covered. The house curve is not touched. The curve is on the output peq, beq uses the input.

  • @ts6640
    @ts6640 Рік тому

    Seems like using the BEQ settings on top of a house curve might be a bit much? Of course I haven’t tried BEQ therefore I am curious to get your thoughts

    • @COGuyStuff
      @COGuyStuff  Рік тому

      I thought that before using it as well but no. BEQ gives the signal bass that wasn't there to begin with, a house curve alone doesn't touch the areas effected. They work in tandem. BEQ just creates the normal baseline and your curve thinks it's like anything else.

    Get an HTP-1 instead, it can save you a lot of hassles. A more elegant way to implement BEQ.

      It's in the plans - Right now they are caught in the worlds supply issues. But comparing a $4500 processor to a $100 rpi isn't a logical statement anyway ;)
