Another great video with Josh showing how he is in line with the local law. They should never tell anyone how or wear to put their stuff. All they need to do is inspect it so it meats county law were as the construction of the sewer is concerned. It looks real nice Josh and I have enjoyed all 3 videos. Everyone should buy from your local farmers to support them. They need to be able to support themselves instead of any government help. We are proud of Josh as he works hard to turn out enough money to feed his animals 1st then himself. Support your local and veteran ran business.
Considering getting ready for septic and near buildings, plus pasture.... easier central TX rancher said cost him $4000 an acre a few years ago. So more nore. And that is mostly flat smaller trees.
For the work he did plus hiw good it looks id say 5 grand well spent. When its all seeded and green its gonna be a beautiful place man. Keep up the hard work buddy.
I think any money spent to improve real estate for something other than development for residential housing is money absolutely well spent no matter the cost 👍👍👍
A lot of hard work that will pay off in dividends once your pasture area is established. I think I remember years ago you had a mulching crew come to clear an area for pasture on a different part of your land. Nicely done. Your aerial shots showed tremendous progress. Curious, where did Mr Frank push the downed trees and debris? Enjoyed a full-watch. 👍🏽🤠 05/18/24
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Thanks for the info. It takes time to get things the way you want. It's certainly not an overnight task nor a cheap one either. Good job. Wish you the best in getting things just right. You'll get there. Be safe and enjoy the adventure.
SRF you are very motivated and inspiring. Our farm is slowly becoming more profitable like yours. We have a Tym 474CH which you helped us get. Keep doing your thing.
Wow ! Impressive ! Allot of work done n three days ! And the comment bout ur debt the nerve how do they know that !! Seems like none of there business n the first place 🤷🏻♀️- the cows will luv a new pasture 👍🏼👊🏻
Your namesake rocks will look good there by the kitchen. What type of stone is it? Looks harder than sandstone and not like limestone common where I grew up. Some sort of metamorphic type maybe?
So many rocks there. The farm is appropriately named. An excavator, not necessarily as big as this one could be worthwhile to have on the farm. Good work clearing the land. Though it is politically incorrect to clear land today we need to do it. Otherwise there won’t be any farms and without farms there will not be enough food for everyone. We do not want this to happen.
it's only politically incorrect to clear land to folks that don't own any land....it's so funny how there are folks living in a city surrounded by concrete...crying SAVE THE TREES....as they have no concept of how the forest works and the only trees they see are when they go to the park....the very same folks shoving half a chicken into the garbage disposal after dinner.....sad and sheltered world we live in isn't it?
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer yes these same people cheer when land is cleared for wind turbines or solar panels. The authorities ruling us actively make life difficult for land owners and farmers.
Here in Ohio you can’t put cattle, or any livestock on the area for the septic. Maybe different for you. Maybe double check before you put anything on that area. Hate to see all that work go to waste. Keep up the good work!
warning about the boulders around your kitchen. Snakes love to home under them to lay their eggs. The hugmongous pile of trees too, but I "assume" you will be burning that though.
I'm not really worried about snakes so much my friend....the boulders will be surrounded by brick chips at some point, we've got snakes everywhere on the farm....in the bushes, ponds and flower beds...but I agree....it's a good idea to keep an eye out. We'll never beat mother nature that's for sure!
Wow! That's some awesome video that clearly took a lot of time to put together to let us see all the work involved without boring us to death. I don't know what it is about earth-moving equipment and dudes, but watching this shit I'm like a 10-year-old and wanting to get my Tonka's out again! My wife thinks I'm retarded.
Ya know, the money isn't an issue. Having some woods is really nice. But that excuse from the county is deplorable. Its a septic system. Oh well. More farm land? Oh, and nice Oklies! Actually lost a pair. Turned out they were on top of my head 😅
Be grateful you're not in Cherokee County Georgia. They'd be requiring you to have three levels of silt fence even though you're in the middle of your own property, and require you to Street sweep your private driveway because it's dirty, though it's made of gravel and dirt. Oh, and don't forget to pay them Tribute every 30 days. Don't even think about building secondary structures that would allow sleeping, Plumbing electrical or water on your property. Totally forbidden . If you do have secondary accommodations within your primary home and want to Airbnb better have your annual license. Stay in New Jersey or California where you'll be more free
Does Frank know what series his 953C is? Like i believe it's a series 2 but i could be wrong. Um i actually think i am wrong 😔 that actually looks like a CAT 953C series 1 now that i caught a small glimpse of the dash which is the main console i believe. But anyway the dash in a series 1 CAT 953C is shaped like a rectangle where a series 2 953C it is more similar to what it looks like in a 953D kind of in a way
I am surprised that the county will allow you to put a septic system in where you've disturbed the ground so much. In my area, they typically wont approve an area as a disposal area unless its been left alone by the machines.
Gotcha, that's nice. The couple I've done here on the farm and in the forest in Oregon, they approve the top 24"-30" of soil for disposal and they are very concerned about any soil that has been disturbed/compacted or has had roots removed and what not. All I can say is, I love what you've done with your patch of land and the timber framing is looking great.
What money? I work brother.....when ya work, plan and make good sound financial decisions....you ain't broke! Most folks bury themselves in debt beyond return and are a prisoner to their debt....I set my mind to paying off my debt...thus I can afford to invest in my property. My farm cost less to purchase than a 3 bedroom house in a cookie cutter neighborhood
$5000 ? On the 1st day, he said the excavator alone was $1600 a day, 3 days alone is $4800 ? I have 2 acres I’ve been working on clearing, I’m paying $2000 a day, there’s no way what we just saw was $5000 !!!
Four 8-hour days at $5k is a very good price. Those are large machines. My local land guy charges $200/hour to operate a skidsteer w/mulcher or a 6-ton excavator.
2 acres? So about $2500.00 an acre to clear. Same here in NE Texas. Newbie land owners get shocked by that. They will buy land with junk timber on it thinking that they can clear it for $500.00 an acre. So, they pay $1500.00 an acre get the quote of $2500.00 an acre to clear it and usually leave the junk timber standing till they sell at a future date. Improved pasture sells for 4 to $5000.00 an acre in my area. Now we know why....
the septic system basically composts the waste, what you get is a sub surface nutrient that helps the soil. No danger there if the system is working appropriately
I wasn't going to mention this from the last video, but since you brought it up again... I felt that the title of part 2 was a little disingenuous. You can't (and never have been able to) put a drain field in disturbed soil. The reason is pretty simple, and has to do ground water contamination and percolation to the surface. The whole point of the undisturbed soil is that the waste water filters through the hard soil. If it's put in disturbed soil, the unfiltered waste can percolate to the surface, it can run off into nearby streams or storm water drainage paths, and it can cause the soil to collapse into hard pack. Most of this paraphrased or condensed from what a buddy of mine who installs septic systems says. There are ways to get around this, but it's expensive and involves pre-filtering through media tanks. And the county didn't MAKE you put a bathroom in the building. You chose to do that, and by extension, became constrained by the building codes, just list the ones that are designed to prevent shoddy building construction killing people.
correct me if I'm wrong....but in order to install a septic system...ya gotta dig up the soil and put in gravel my friend.....I agree....a code on the septic is best....but I also don't agree with the assessment of the soil from the county...the guy that did the perk test literally told me "you've had cows in here, it's compacted the soil" then went over and dug his hole in the compacted tire tread mark from the skidder a couple years back...and said it was less compacted....he was in the most compacted soil on the farm! lol
So you spent a fortune, destroyed $100,000.00 worth of wood, and lost 70-80% of your topsoil and that's pretty? Wouldn't it be cheaper to clear cut make the money and have an excavator pull the stumps and put them into a burn pile? Of course, you could have just bought land that suited your plans IE: Pasture or you could have just used an excavator and opened up the forest floor creating a silvopasture giving shade and shelter to the cows while stopping land erosion and having a future wood crop!
so....we reclaimed abandoned tobacco fields that have absolutely no topsoil, and now we're rebuilding the topsoil with regenerative farming...it's quite easy to sum up another man's work and pick it apart, believe me. However if you watch a few more videos on the channel you'll get a better grasp of what's going on here my friend.
