I still have this CD in a box in the garage somewhere with Hough on the piano bench looking up at the camera with that C.F. Peters edition on his lap in the picture on the cover. I used to follow along to this CD in my Editio Musica Budapest edition and (try to) play this all the time just hearing this again brings back fond memories. Thanks for posting.

So wonderfully played... One cannot achieve this level of playing without going though deep meditation about this music. Thank you for sharing this music.

It's not an easy piece: The interaction of the harmonic modulations and the dynamics are performed masterfully by this artist. It also has a form and structure that needs to be presented carefully and clearly. So it's a true virtuoso piece: technique, harmony, spirit, interpretation and vision/communication.

Thank you for your kind comments.
I agree, Stephen Hough is a wonderful interpreter, as his reading of Bénédiction de Dieu demonstrates.
    Best wishes.

This masterpiece’s title is from a poem by Alphonse de Lamartine. The opening line is
D’ou me vient, o mon Dieu! Cette paix qui m’inonde?
(Where does it come from, O my God! This peace that floods me?)

Thank you so much for putting this here. I was given this recording by its produces when it was released, at a time when I thought SH had disappeared into a monastery (!)....and at a particularly sensitive time for me.I was also learning the piece myself. But I then lost it, and had quite forgotten that the recording had ever existed. What a wonderful thing it is!. It has that glorious, tortured sensuality of Liszt's religious faith, so perfectly interpreted by Hough.

Masterly playing. Everything is beautifully gauged. The music unfolds naturally and feels of one piece (vs. episodic in lesser hands). Even in this early recording, SH already shows himself to be a pianist of distinction.

3:25 like heavenly rays diffused through the clouds casting a soft glow on everything they touch below.
