Matt, you’re no hillbilly. My dad was from NE AR. He knew, and/or was related to real hillbillies. Time and time again, you’ve shown amazing skills and education. Hillbillies aren’t dumb, or stupid. But they can’t touch your abilities or your teeth! Loving the build and have watched each episode, even watching most of the adds. Thanks for the entertainment and the education. Love what you’re doing. God bless all your family, keep brushing them teeth.
I know him thru his work (I retired from there). He's a very sharp cookie.
My teeth such maybe it's a sign....
Maybe this is where the name "Toothbrush" came from instead of "Teethbrush"! LoL
Matt has come down out of the hills... he's a HillWilliam now.
Real hillbillies would have killed themselves while using the puller (port-a-power) set-ups we've watched him use in the past. Real skill right here- he's got it.
Hey Matt. "Hillbilly" away. You've done a great job on this Cat. You've bothered to carefully do things right where it really matters. Your work with the torch is just fine. Less critical parts and you still did the best job possible. You've done what you can with the tools you have, even fabbed up a couple, to make the whole thing work. Well done. That Cat project is one you can be proud of. I have thoroughly enjoyed this project from the beginning. Cheers, eh, from a little bit farther up the coast.
As someone who runs a small dozer at least weekly, I have gotten such a kick watching you put this old iron back in running condition. You have done a fine job with nothing to feel bad about. I am a hillbilly from and in the hills of Tennessee and we would all be proud of the work you have done. One word of advice, build a top for the open space on the nose guard. If you don't that opening will attract everything that falls out of any tree you get near and dirt will find its way down in front of your radiator. Bad juju!
*- Good on you, Sir. Wisdom unsaid is lost. Thanks for seeing ahead for our friend, Matt.*
As someone who's done modufication jobs myself on various equipment you ain't got nothing you've done on this project to be shamed of.
You really outdid yourself on the grilll and lift cylinder mount mods.
Absolutely brilliant thinking and exicution of what you had to do to get things to fit and work right within the limits of where, when and how you did them with the facility and tools you have available.
Your inginuity is definitely outstanding.
Thanks for the entertainment Sir.
46 videos and I've seen every one. Thanks Matt, for the great content!
I will never own a D4, but I truly enjoy watching your build series.
I've watched every video you've put and wow this is proper backyard engineering - there's no hillbilly in it - its just been done right and I think that if CAT are following your progress then they would be extremely pleased with what you've done
Thank you for sharing
Hard to believe how many hours and how much money and effort you have put into this dozer. I love watching your progress and have been along for the ride since the very first video. When you are done, you are going to have a really nice machine to work your property with. Please keep the videos coming and I am looking forward to you fixing up the excavator next.
That' excavator is a proper project - the D4 was just to get us all interested in backyard engineering
Sum of this episode: do your best, cut the rest. Looking good!
I am going to adopt your "problems for a future Matt" statement, a problem for future me! That will work so well I think and really confuse my wife! Also the antique tractor vs the antique store thought definitely was funny. cheers and keep up the untold amount of work you are putting in on this. the videos probably don't even cover 10% of the work you are doing, all the research and shopping for parts, dang.
Hi Matt just finished watching all the episodes of the bulldozer, personally I think u have done a brilliant job to be proud of especially considering u have done nearly all the work yourself with some serious heavy lifting involved.I think the money spent and time will be well worth the outlay and will give less trouble in the future, glad u painted it makes it look even more of a top job, looking forward to the project 👍
Awesome project. Its great to see an old machine given a second life.
“Not good enough for a boat but probably ok for a bulldozer.” Love that philosophy.
Thanks Matt,
Your hard work and determation is sure paying off. Watching a young man make do with the shop and tools he has is very interesting/ingenious. Nice D4 dozer and can't wait to see it working. Be safe, Boe 👍👍
When we think about what you started with, you’ve taken a tired old veteran and made her ready for home-guard duty. You weren’t sure if you’d paint none or some or all of it but now she’s looking real nice. You’ve worked out the knicks and the knocks. I’m looking forward to her first tour of duty around your property. She’ll need a break in period but then she’ll do anything you ask of her. Good job! 🥸👀🔧🔨👍✅
Matt...I have watched your videos from Day 1 on your D4. I admire your tenacity in sticking with this project to its conclusion. I just watched the small clip ref. incorrect measurement of one of the hydraulic lines. Of greater interest to me is to see the end result of all your hard work. That D4 is one CHERRY ride, my friend, and you are to be congratulated for all your hard work. Seems a shame to even think of soiling it with "dirt work!" I would sit on it and drive around the neighborhood showing it off - everyone would be pea-green with envy!!! John
Matt , I started watching thinking it was going to be another will it start video. I don't even know how long it's been , but you have done an amazing job with this project. In those first video I seriously underestimated your ability and determination. I can't wait to see this old tractor pushing dirt again. Thank you for taking us along on this journey.
This nose guard project is taking a Bob Ross approach, all the modifications are just "Happy Little Accidents, We Dont Make Mistakes."
Right on my friend. Great Job
Matt, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching you restore/bring this old work horse back to life. I'm 63 years old and fixed cars until I was 43. After back surgery, it was clear that my mechanical carrier was over. Watching your videos sratched that itch.
Thank you, my friend. May God bless you and yours richly.
Can't believe it is the same dozer .well done Matt.
I really like your problem solving skills and your logical thinking when you are trying to make sense of something, seemingly, unknown to you. I've absolutely loved following your journey on this and it's gonna be a little sad when it is complete. Thankfully you have the excavator next. I'm really looking forward to how you handle that monster. Stay safe and healthy!
Love your videos Matt. I don't think you got too hillbilly at all. I think you did a fine job on it - better than anybody else would do unless, maybe, if they were restoring it for a museum.
Awesome. At least the weather is getting nicer.
I like that it starts right up for you.
Very, very impressive job. I really wish my father were still alive to see your work. He had been a master mechanic for a number of large construction companies in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. He could have answered any question you had about the D4. He converted an orchard model D4 7U into a more conventional configuration and fabricated a hydraulic ripper for the back for use on our small ranch. I really do miss that machine and my Dad these days. Am looking forward to seeing your machine work.
Wow impressive young Padawan! You have graduated you are no longer a hillbilly your new title is Backwoods engineer.
You have done a wonderful job on the Cat 4. You do some things illogically, but you are Matt, and you do it how you think it should be done. I would not have begun to try this. You are a hero saving this machine. It’s value has been increased by your dedication.
thanks!
Future self is always smarter than current self. That's why it's always good to leave the difficult problems for them.
Just a little bit of feedback when you're welding structural stuff push the puddle and don't do circles or zigzag or anything just push it slowly just a helpful tip and making the 45 bigger will help bond the two pieces together smaller 45° the middle isn't bonded to the other piece of metal
I been following since you brought her out of the woods, such a good job and dedication, but has anyone noted the thinning hair.😂😂😂😂
This has been an awesome resto to follow. You do really good work Matt. Your next resto’s gonna be tough to beat this one! 🇦🇺🍺🍺
She's looking good and I think yo are spot on with the shakedown runs being a good idea before making it not fit in the garage.
You have done one hell of a good job on that machine
And this is why we enjoy your videos so much, you get things done no B’s!! Thanks for sharing
Matt the run for the roses seems to hold true. Got that blade on as the ponies were running the rink! Great video love that tractor! Detroit underground
Using the disc as a template is just plain smart, ie hillbilly using what's available to get the job done right.
I hit thumbs up,the second you petted the dog. It’s basically a UA-cam decision rule for me at this point.
One time I fattened a bent belly pan using the hydraulic leveling jacks on my class A motorhome... Worked fantastic!!!
It’s definitely NOT hillbilly - it being creative!
Young man, you could 146 videos on the CAT, I would watch and enjoy each one. Stay the course you will have a really nice machine when done. Also looking forward to the excavator rebuild. Thanks for the update.
Well said and I agree 100%!
Hey Matt, theres good reason for the points not being greased. If you were to grease it,sand would mix with the grease and effectively become a grinding paste.
Gr8 video. Really enjoying the build. Just so you know that crack in the centre of the weld is because it's been run down hand, on structural parts always vertical up.
You did a very nice job on your dozer can't wait to see the excavator.
at least your repairs are less hillbilly than the previous repairs! thats a win in my book! 👍👍
As another PNW boy, you’ll never go too hillbilly.
watched all the videos, read most o the comments too….loved the full disclosure (ie the goose) too bad ya sold it, charlie looks like he could use a feathered friend!✌️
really tight. I didn't think it would go in. greets from Germany.
Thanks Matt! You are the top Matt on UA-cam from my point of view. 😊
That was fun and interesting - I didn’t have a clue how you were going to do some of those things by yourself but you got them done.
I have really enjoyed watching your videos. My wife would never let me spend that much so I'm living vicariously through you
I would have popped a hemroid trying to move that blade by myself. Well done !
Hillbilly is in the name. If it was anything but you, sir would be false advertising. Love the content!
You need to adjust your oxygen settings on your torch at the handles. You want little sharp pointy blue cones coming out of the torch tip when you mash down on that oxygen lever to cut. It cuts cleaner and smoother. Also hand and arm placement is the key to welding and cutting. Practice your cuts and weld movements before you start cutting or welding. Your welds are getting lots better since you quit using that flux core mig. Good luck from Texas and give Charlie girl some love for me!!
*- Useful insights and correct from my experience level.*
*- Thank you for helping out friend, Matt.*
Im stiil not sure why matt does not have 100k subs yet. Great videos well done sir.
Very nice working getting the guard to fit well while still having clearance for the blade...and switching the tilt over...excellent modifications!
Matt, you just keep knocking it out of the ballpark, what a transformation from when you dragged it into the barn to start. It starts really nice, it won't be long before your running trees down and cutting in that road.
This has really been a transformation from rust. Cant wait until the excavator
None of what you are doing is hillbilly. It's about doing the best with what you have at hand. And you are doing a magnificent job.
Way back when you dragged it out of the trees and over growen weeds and all the fun you had getting it in the workshop. I could not see you ever getting it finished.
WOW I was wrong, that is all I can say.
Well done.
I rarely comment, but i wanted to give props on kids needing to play outside. Be back when the street lights come on. My childhood. ❤
I love the videos. I’ve watched them all. The nitrile welding gloves are killing me though. 😂
You're welcome & glad that I could help you! The guard did turn out rather nicely though. I don't have much more clearance between the guard & hydraulic pump/reservoir than what you do. Looking forward to seeing it get back to work & getting the canopy back on it. Keep up the good work!
Your project is fascinating. Good idea to use it a few weeks to see what problems arise before installing that brush cage.
"A squared plus B squared = the C minus I got in math."
I gotta start using that. That is funny.
Your welds are better than the previous welds. As they say, “It’s fine.”
Enjoy your video's. Looking forward to the big digger project.
I’ve been watching a neighbor get after his property with a T12 skid steer and a 12k excavator at Bald Peak and Hillsboro Hwy. I can only imagine what you are about to do with the D4 and excavator on your pond!
I am going to rename my son D4 in honor of you! Kidding, I do love it when these vids come out!!
Finally getting close....
C'mon Matt...dont sell yourself short.
Hell of a job.
It’s good to see it close to finish, now getting all to work out the little things that will make it better
What a great surprise on such a nice day!!!! Thanks Matt!
Getting so close to being complete 👍🏻🇺🇸
Nice work, she's lookin real shiny
You, Charlie and the Goose do excellent work!
Your doing a good job on that little dozer
I'm really glad that you find more to fill up the "to-do list"
...do not want this video series to end!!!!😊😊😂
Congrats Matt on getting ur D4 Dozer Blade fitting great and painted. next time the cylinder..
More awesome work Matt! Starts so easy now and that tilt cylinder with hoses and then Cable for the Winch and you are there!
To see the confidence gained on the grinder from the first episode to now is great. A project like this makes you feel like you can tackle anything after its up and running. Cant wait to see what happens with the excavator
Hey Matt, restoring old equipment is a true test of determination. Some people think that all the answers are on the "Google":) Not even close! Without the skills and determination your beautiful D4 would still be a rusty hulk! Great job!:)
Great work and sweet alignment techniques for welding, total bonus round Matt.🎉
This video is a great example of when there’s a will there’s a way!
We are going into withdrawal here. We Ned some more videos to watch! Hope to see more soon. Your videos are so entertaining. Thanks so much for sharing.
I like how you have this amazing device for shrinking grinding discs. It's pretty efficient 😂
Videos are great. Keep them coming…
One more thing. As the trunions wear down, the blade will get closer to the nose. Something to watch for as you use the machine. I also laughed out loud when you said the tilt cylinder will hardly be used. After you get used to it, you will never want to use a dozer without one. You will find yourself using it constantly. Keep up the excellent work! Looking forward to seeing you move dirt with it!
Love your series. Just a note to remind you that the word is not heigth but height. No TH at the end. Thanks for sharing your hard work.
Solid Work. I always enjoy your hard work saving this old warhorse.
The only thing I could see that you did wrong was introducing the goose, you should have left that as a 'wtf'. Love the videos mate, thank you
Excellent as always. Takes a real man nowadays to see errors and admit to them, let alone take advice from all of us subscribers. It wasn't a mistake really, just a different way of looking at things
hell no this is one o the best shows on tv love what you are doing
Wow this dozer looks fantastic.
You won't be sorry you notched the grill for those stiffening ribs. You'd be surprised how easily, and often you find yourself pushing at max height. Unlike the blade you have, mine is something scabbed on from some other piece of equipment, my Dad thinks it's an old grader blade, and it hit the radiator at full lift while pushing and cracked that cast stanchion that has CATERPILLAR in raised letter. Now there's a fugly weld through the LAR section of one of the coolest parts of these "antiques".
Great to see you Matt, I’m so glad you’re getting closer on the dozer brother! I hope you’ve been doing well and your family as well my friend! She’s definitely a beauty now Matt! I’m getting antsy now for you to start pushing some dirt around trees! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I imagine you’re learning more about everything each time you work on it! Your modifications on your blade looks awesome Matt, you’re doing a great job brother! It’s nobody’s business of what you do my friend! Thanks for sharing, Kirk from Louisiana! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Best sounding diesel ever... Old cat power can't be beat
Back yard engineering without help of a machine shop and it turned out well ,you have dome well so far Matt time to work it .
That engine fires up and runs so smooth!! You really did a fantastic job!!!💯👍👍👍😎🥇🥇🥇
GREAT! Loved it. It's been a long time coming. Best of luck with the Cylinder. I know you will get it working. Can hardly wait. Thanks, Matt.
Finally a new video its been to long, can't wait for the Hitachi
Very pleased to find that you are back. I love your patience and determination.
Good to see you’re getting close to finishing enjoy your videos
