One of the best project video series I've yet seen. You've done a superb job, Matt and I'm glad you brought us along with you. EDIT 1: You've done a lot of janky things but the only time I've really been scared for you was when you put the brush cage on; I'm glad it worked out. EDIT 2: Can't wait for the excavator series!
Agree 100%. I'm really looking forward to the excavator!
Agree totally and the excavator is gunna need a whole heap of fabrication 😊
Great job Matt! I have really enjoyed watching and you have inspired me to continue my own project restoring an old truck. I look forward to you next project. Good luck.
Well said 👍 also can't wait to see the next project
This has been an absoulutely fantastic series to follow. It's kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way, right from the beginning evaluation in the woods/driveway where the hope still existed that It would start back up and drive away. The dozer turned out absolutely beautiful, and it seems to run like a top!
I admire a guy like yourself who through skill, and perseverance can see a big project like this through. I have really enjoyed following along. I'm looking forward to seeing this machine in action, and your future projects.
Really enjoyed following this restoration. I had my doubts when you first started, but you learned and taught us that patience and a can-do attitude go a long way! Having a good dog and understanding wife helps a lot.
Can do attitude…love it.
Matt, I hope you receive the UA-cam Creator award for this series. You have done a fantastic job documenting your journey and producing stand out videos for this project. It is probably the best documentary I have ever watched on UA-cam. Thank you!
I can not believe I've been watching you for 2 years but it's been entertaining and informational. Can't wait to see you rebuild the excavator.
What an excellent series- watching this all come together. Be proud of what you have accomplished. A real pleasure watching it come together!!!
I can’t believe this was 2 years in the making. It was really interesting watching you work your way through this process.
me too 2years! following how time flies !!
Matt should get an award for the most accomplished with the least amount spent on tools. Amazing what can be accomplished with a couple hundred dollars worth of HF tools.
What a beautiful restoration! Your patience and attention to detail is admirable.
This has been a great series Matt. Glad you have a successful result. Looking forward to the excavator series!
This has been an inspiring series. Your abilities as a fabricator and rebuilder of machinery is exceptional. With limited tools, time and money, I don't see how you could have done much better, turning this into a great farm workhorse.
Matt showed us all what’s possible with a garage full of Harbor Freight tools and a can-do attitude! Well done sir!
Very nice piece of work. Almost hate to see it get dirty! Cheers
Congratulations man. Well done. Hope it serves you well.
Brilliant Matt.
I’ve watched every episode since you started and absolutely loved your passion and determination to make things work.
I’m a CAT trade trainer for apprentices here in Australia and love seeing these old girls being brought back to life.
Might even use some of your transmission episodes in my classroom for the students to learn from 😊.
Look forward to your future project.
Matt, not only are you a competent engineer but also an excellent narrator. It's never boring and at no point did I skip forward!
i have followed the entire time I purchased a old 680 case backhoe basket case and you make me think i can too
This has been an incredible journey! Well done!👍🏽
This is the kind of entertainment we need more of. You get work done, you don't make up drama and you don't push overpriced crap on us the viewer. I've been watching since the first video!
I remember the first time that I saw a D4. I thought that it was so small, like a toy version of the D6s, 7s, and bigger than what I normally worked on. They had pony motor starters. I enjoy watching your work.
What an excellent series……thoroughly enjoyed watching this. You possess the abilities to plan it out, think it through, adapt/modify if needed, finish up keeping a realistic schedule. Great mechanical, fabrication, and welding skills. Hats off to you good sir. 👍
That's quite an accomplishment! It is very inspiring how you saw it all the way through! Job well done! 👍
2 years, blood, sweat and (I suspect) tears. I feel blessed that I made the journey with you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart
That’s a beautiful machine now. It’s been amazing watching the transformation. I cannot even imagine how many hours/days/weeks/months you put into that project. Well done!
You did an amazing job. I just want to applaud you for all the hard work you’ve done. You proved a lot of people wrong.
Hello from Finland 🇫🇮👋 you do good work that dozer 👍
Your biggest achievement is doing this great restoration as a one man show. It's been very well recorded and edited too. Great work for bringing it back to as new condition. You should be very proud of yourself.
Excellent job Matt. Fixing and Bringing back to this 65 years old tractor without any helper, and lots of modifications, 2 years hard work, brilliant. Your family and friends should proud of you, you deserve reward.
Two years of a lot of hard work, now you have a rig that is almost brand new. Really like the build vids. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to the excavator rebuild.
What a mellow Pup. You and the man from Wood and Metal workshop have three real lovable German Shepherds. We are all hoping you are going to do an Excavator Epic, but spend a good amount of time with the family first. Ten thousand thumbs up to you. Having ongoing content like this means a lot to me. Something to look forward to. Thanks again!
I'm a big fan of Diesel Creek and just found this channel on a YT suggestion... being born, raised, and living in the PNW myself, this is just as awesome and got my subscription. Looks like I have a lot to go back and watch in my down time. Thanks!
Deserves way more subscribers, got all the ingredients for a great channel got a farm got a pond got a dog got plenty of cool machinery and he's got a laid back style without the drama and emotion of some of the channels out there.
Only you and Mustie1 can make an hour plus video seem like it goes by in a flash. I get so in to it, that I am disappointed when the video is done.
Mustie1 has a good thing going!
I find Matt much more thorough of a restorer but I respect Mustie's raw ability to rehab small engine carbs! Mustie gets a bit ham fisted for no reason whatsoever since he's talented.
How awesome would it be to see Mustie, Squatch253, Matt Diesel Creek and Watch Wes Work togeather working on his Excavator.
That would be a dream team of mechanics.
@@pinwizz69 That would be a hoot strange my 2 fav machs out of the 3 you mentioned dam I will need to watch the others now.
@@adrianrussell-smith748.
Check out Pacific nomskar Hillbilly also.
He does a complete down to nuts a bolts restoration of a Cat D4 dozer.
Including manufacturing tools and parts to do it.
Congratulations! It looks fantastic. Hard to believe it's the same machine you drug out of the woods. Great job!
Dear Matt, I am an artist living and working in Portland OR. I have been following your CAT D4 project since the day you got it. The kind of individual are, how you approach a problem, and how you work has turned this machine into, not so much as farm equipment, as it is a Kinetic Sculptured Art-Project. The machine is a thing of beauty, I am almost sad you are going to go out and get it dirty. Sending you my best, maybe I will see you in PDX having brew somewhere.
That's great! Thanks for showing the costs too, helps put things into perspective for any of us out there that would maybe like to get an older dozer and get if fixed up.
More outstanding work to end a great series. I appreciate you leaving in some of the minor screw-ups, makes the rest of us feel better about our own shop work. I hope you get a lot of good use out of the dozer.
I have really enjoyed this rebuild, looking forward to the next. Thanks NWHB.
The expressions on your dog's face are priceless. She clearly takes the supervisory portion of being a Shepherd seriously. You are a credit to her upbringing. You could not have done this without her. Her version, anyway.
Like all the previous comments I've had a great time watching/learning along the way and I can't but admire your talent and attitude along the journey. Thank you and Aloha!
I've followed along with you on this project from the start. Really appreciate your videos and your attitude.
Well done and congratulations on finishing your dozer!
Saw this in my recommended. Got about 1 minute in before I decided to just start from the beginning of the playlist and binge it all. What an interesting journey filled with a lot of injuries, broken parts, and sacrificial paint.
That is just the coolest machine, Matt -- great job! I have learned a lot watching you sort things out, fabricate, source, improvise, adapt, and overcome. 😎
Congratulations for a job exceedingly well done, Matt. Been with you since the beginning. You're officially in an elite Club.
A very interesting build. I am certain that all your viewers (including me, of course) are very happy for you.
You've made it all very interesting and educational.
Looking forward to your Excavator series plus, more of this dozer, as it helps you work your acreage.
Peace.
I am in the middle of restoring a boat, you have been quite the inspiration to keep me going. It's very easy to get something started and let it go to the wayside halfway through. Thank you for keeping me going, you did an outstanding job making the pieces fit. Keep up the good work.
A fitting end to one of the most captivating build series I've ever watched. Great work, Matt, and I will definitely be watching the excavator rebuild.
This was a great series, enjoyed all of it!!
Congratulations on your great rebuild accomplishment!!
Fantastic work, narration and editing enjoyed the whole series!!
I'm actually kinda sad this build is over, the whole thing start to finish was really satisfying. I can't wait for the excavator build I bet its going to be just as good.
The look on your face when you exclaimed "this thing is awesome" puts this whole build into context! Congrats man, stellar job and while bittersweet for us viewers, I eagerly await the EX120 build. Thanks very much for sharing...
Great job...and video series! I am eager to see you pushing some dirt with it! What I think the series illustrates is just how, not exactly easy, but "do-able" it can be to drag these old machines out of the dirt and put them back to work with restorations performed in home, or farm, workshops. Still fully capable, mechanically simple, often massively over-built and devoid of the finicky electronics that plague modern machines making them increasingly impractical for small operators. They really do seem to be a valuable resource rusting away in barns and fields that shouldn't be overlooked not just for antique equipment collectors but for those who'd like to put them to work for weekend projects. If the several 'tube channels devoted to vlogging similar projects are reflective of a bigger effort I'd have to think it would become financially attractive to manufacture replacement parts for areas like the undercarriage. That should help keep restoration and maintenance costs in line a bit as serviceable used kit becomes harder to find and new-old stock fully depletes.
Mat, its been great watching you redo the D4 cat, Can't wait to see you do the excavator.
Amazing rebuild job - your attention to detail and quality and workmanship is excellent.
Living proof that a lot can be done with a little . With engineering on a shoestring , at times seat of the pants , a derelict in the woods was turned to a CAT ready to prowl again.
Take a bow , no , take several , she's a beauty . Entertaining ,educational, and inspirational video series . Thanks for letting us follow along.
I’ve enjoyed this series. I learned to operate an old Cat D7 cable lift. It was a late 40s model. I was 16 at the time. I haven’t been near a dozer since that summer. We cleared 40 acres of junky bushes and planted grass for dairy cows. It was a great experience.
its been a great watch to see this resto through to this stage well worth it not in the least boring ever and thanks for taking us through ti cheers
Fantastic series. You should be rightly proud of your efforts and the outcome. Looking forward to the excavator refresh. Stay safe out there. And don't forget that headrest 🙂 (or it'll keep reminding you)
15:43 .. I'm over 60 years old ... a tradesman all my life, ...I'm a Certified Millwright ... Industrial Maintenance Mechanic ... Qualified machinist ... and a master fabricator by anyone's measure ... You make very good stuff!!!.. you are a mechanical artist!!! ... In my Professional Opinion!
Thank you for sticking with the project. Over the 2 years I have watched you backtrack more than once but you have always regrouped and tackled your problems. BTW, your welding and fabricating has really improved over this.
I’ve been here from the get go! Awesome, congrats on being done. I’m sure the sense of accomplishment is powerful!
It turned out absolutely beautiful! What a great job you did tackling all of that. Really want to see some videos of it working.
Patience, ingenuity, skill and perseverance. I’ve watched every minute of it. Congratulations brother you’ve done an amazing job.
A great display of persistence, working/thinking thru problems, and the ultimate feeling of delayed satisfaction (job well done), a better high than any drug, as opposed to instant gratification
That engine runs and starts so nice! Such an awesome project! Thanks so much for the videos and my learning experience.
It's a little beauty Matt, and a thoroughly enjoyable series. Congratulations! I hope the little Cat serves you well for years.
Good to see you being nice to your dog at last
Man, this is the episode I've been waiting for, this series has been entrancing. Well done, you've done an excellent job on rebuilding this old Cat.
That was a tremendous project to undertake.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey bringing this Cat back to life. Your fabrication skills are impressive. Bring on the excavator!
Absolutely awesome job on the rebuild Matt. Your attention to detail and the step by step coverage of what you were doing and why with each part of the job is an absolutely epic undertaking which I am sure will be useful to future generations of Caterpillar D4 owners as they attempt to keep these classic machines running in the best way possible. I was thinking when you were putting the brush cage on that "would be nice to have an excavator to help with this, wonder where one could be, lol". Thank you for doing what you are doing and bringing us all along on the journey. Be well.../B
New sub here from North, Central BC Canada. My neighbor has a D4 Gearjammer I have used for years. Old girl Aint what she used to be eh. Still though it always starts and can push as hard as she ever did. Sure like the way you have done this refit. Straightening up years of others modifications and cobbled up repairs is really a feel good thing when we get them back working as they should and all the old eyesores cleaned up. I am a retired HD Machinist, Fabricator/Mechanical (Logging equip) 50 plus years of heavy iron behind me. Stop by when you can new friend. Take care eh.
Congratulations followed the entire rebuilt, I have been where you were, and I understand how hard you have been working. Feel proud you did a great job and now have a piece of machinery that will last a long time. Enjoy!
Congratulations Matt!
It's been a wonderful series...I have learned a lot from you...while also enjoying it on the entertainment side.
Can't wait for the excavator project to get going next.
Incredible! I looked forward to every episode. Rewatching many. Your perseverance and get it done one way or the other brought a smile and laugh on many occasions. I wish you were my neighbor. Thank you Matt. I owe you a beer, at least.
The D 4 sounds great I like D 4 am. Heavy Equipment operator in my country Puerto Rico have a good day
Congratulations man. You showed lot of patience and fortitude in dealing with all the issues in the build. You have created the manuscript of D4 servicing. Enjoy using it - you deserve it. Thanks
That thing looks gorgeous!! Great job get in some dirt and mud!
Well done Matt i have been on the journey since you purchased it You have not cut any corners and built a machine that is better than new Love your videos and wish you all best of luck in your future builds from SOUTHAMPTON ENGLAND UK
You have done an amazing job bringing it back to better than new!! Your level of detail has been incredible!! Can’t wait to see it working!! Thanks for sharing
Have really enjoyed the build! Congratulations on completion of your project. Looking forward to track hoe.
Really enjoyed watching these videos and seeing the progress unfold! Eagerly awaiting watching the excavator develop! Cheers!
You not only provided entertainment, you inspired me do some of the same things on my equipment. I was guessing you spent more than you did. So thank you very much for sharing and doing such a great job with the video quality. I also am looking forward to the excavator series as I am wanting to purchase one for projects on my 40 acre farm.
Congrats on the dozer, you did a great job bringing it back to life.
This was a lot of fun to watch and you did a great job. You did a lot of research with other people that know about the old tractors and you got lucky with the used engine. I can't wait for you to start on the excavator.
Congratulations, that was a fine restoration.
That was so cool. I can't believe two years went buy. Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to film and edit this for us.
You have truly set a bench mark for types videos… I’m not gunna lie to you… I am retired an still wake up way too early… I binged the D4 series in these early morning hours over last 10 days… couldn’t wait…!!! Thank You so very much for taking the time to share this Odyssey… Loved It…,!!!
This has been an incredible journey! You've done a super job, quite an accomplishment, and very inspiring, Matt. Can't wait for the excavator series!
Congratulations. Well done.
It's been such an amazing adventure Matt these past two years. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this rebuild. I can't wait to see it put to use.
You’ve done the most through restoration on an old dozer that I’ve ever seen! Great job man!
Congratulations! This has been a great series for all kinds of reasons. We look forward to seeing the D4 in action!
Matt, thank you again for taking us along on this epic journey!! I really enjoyed watching every step of the restoration!! Stay safe and I look forward to the excavator adventures!
I love seeing the old iron up and running again. Bottom line, you could probably never find a used machine in this condition for what you have invested in this one. Great job!
I had a 1949 D47U elect-start pony wide trac w/ROP and oversize blade that I used to clear and level property, put in driveway and excavate crawlspace for my house and shop I built several years ago. Great little Cat. Did everything I asked of it after I replaced the engine clutch and a couple of hydraulic hoses. Was sorry to sell it when I was done. Beautiful job on your rebuild! Thanks for the memories.
Absolutely enjoyed this series awesome job looking forward to watching the excavator series…
The D4 series were awesome! Watched the whole thing on a single breath. It's just a pitty that Matt doing such a tough work gets not enough views and subs! While the "Will it start?" clone-croud gets all the attention by barbarically destroying engines...
Anyway, I'm glad I found your channel! Greetings from Ukraine!
I really enjoyed this series. Funny how things just randomly appear in a feed and you end up subscribing and watching for two years. You got to keep your finger too, I'll never forget it getting smashed. You did a great job. Thanks for bringing us along.
You are a true craftsman! I can't believe how much work you did and how you still took time to prime and paint it. You sure know a lot about......everything! From wire rope to hydraulics, to diesel mechanics.. .. Can't wait to see the work on the excavator!
