- Dick Cully and his Big Band perform the Fred Ebb, John Kander composition "New York, New York" arranged by Robert W. Lowden at the Miami, Florida television studios of WLRN-TV channel 17. The 25-year success and longevity of this band was due to a fine group of players and a versatile, appealing library that both the musicians and audiences enjoyed.
The Big Band sounds Marvelous and why not its fronted by the Great Drummer Man. Dick Cully Solid Big Band and Fantastic drummer how can you get any better than this?
I have to say Mr. Cully, you guys are fantastic! At times, I feel like I'm watching an old tape of Buddy Rich's big band. Yet your band is also distinctive and unique as well. Very smooth. Top-notch playing. No wonder you've been extant for over 20 years in a very tough market. Kudos! And 5 stars, of course!
Hi, Mr.Cully, Thanks for this wonderful music sharing with the world. I am a fan of Frank Sinatra.
I have a doubt. what are the instruments used in this band. I think first row (saxophone), second row (trombone) and
third row (trumpet) am i correct?.
Also Please let me know from what combination of instruments, the unique sound between 0:22 - 0:29 seconds coming . Thanks in advance.
+santosh kumar ---Thank you for your kind remarks. The orchestra consists of five saxes, two tenor, two alto and a baritone. Trombones are second row, two tenors and a bass trombone. Third row are the trumpets and the chairs number 1 thru 4 with the third being the 'jazz' chair. Piano/keyboard, bass and drums. The sections playing chords or riffs are what makes a big band unique and an American art form. Sinatra is the best you have good taste. Best wishes to you.
