Katey Segal was a backup singer for Olivia and Bette Midler.

Double Trouble was such a fun and entertaining show and Jean and Liz Sagal were completely wonderful as Kate and Allison Foster. I wish it would have lasted a little longer than the two seasons that it had. And for a time, they were everywhere. Along with their sitcom, Jean and Liz were also in the camp-tastic Grease 2 and all those memorable Doublemint Twins commercials from the early '80s (Liz even had a small role in the disaster that was Howard the Duck, but I'm not here to talk about it). They walked so that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Tia and Tamera Mowry could run, and the fact that they're the real life younger sisters of the legendary Katey Sagal (Peg Bundy from Married...with Children and the voice of Leela from Futurama) was mind-blowing. Good to know they're still active in the entertainment industry, but more on the behind the scenes side of things. They were so pretty then and I imagine still are now. Thanks so much for sharing, Steve! Good to have you back! ❤ I have yet another fun suggestion for you. Would you please consider doing a "Whatever Happened To..." profile of child actor Brice Beckham, best known for his role as youngest son Wesley T. Liz is also briefly in the film ‘Flashdance.’ I also saw her name in the credits for a behind the scenes job on ‘Sons of Anarchy.’ Big sister Katey’s former show.
I absolutely Loved this show! Always wanted to share reruns of it with MY twins that are now 29! And to find out that they are Katie Segal's sisters is also so cool!

After NBC ended for two seasons, Double Trouble has moved to the USA Network with all new episodes and lasted for four more seasons,
Jean Sagal was ready to move forward into full time television directing such as Molly Dodd, NewsRadio, Just Shoot Me and more while
Liz Sagal got great success as a writer on some of TV's popular sitcoms: Mad About You, Charmed, Two Guys and a Girl, Monk,
Banshee and Sons of Anarchy.
I keep hoping the show will be available for streaming.
I remember Double Trouble! My younger sister and I grew up when the show was on and called each other Kate and Allison (I was Allison) according to our personalities. I only found out today (29 May, 2024) that Katie is their sister. I cannot tell you how lovely this is to me, and how wonderful I find it that they continued their careers in the way they did. Thank you for this!! I think of the show often and I miss it.

I got thrown off when I'd heard Liz-n-Jean's surname mispronounced as "Say-gle" and Katey's was pronounced correctly.. It reminded me of George Seagal's name, so I didn't pay attention to the spelling. I don't remember anything about the series - it was just on less than a year then it disappeared - no reruns or anything.
I LOVED Double Trouble … I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the 1st season only being 8 episodes - why do I remember it being much longer?? I also loved them in Grease 2 (I don’t care what people say - that movie was so fun!)
You can actually see a very strong resemblance to Katey.
Yeah, it seems weird. With the first season ('83-'84) really just being a "mid-season" replacement for a different cancelled show, it was really short. It ran the full '84-'85 season for 15 episodes.
Probably a case of merging tv shows in our heads. It had the same premise as Give Me A Break out around the same time.

I loved Grease 2. I remember the 1st time i seen it thinking michelle pfeiffer was going to be a star. I just recently learned the woman that played paulette is judy garlands daughter.

Speaking of Katey Sagal Stephen she began her career as a singer and songwriter. In 1973 she worked as a backing vocalist for various singers, including Bob Dylan, Etta James and Tanya Tucker. In 1976 while a member of The group with no name, she contributed to the album Moon Over Brooklyn (on which she was credited as Katey Sagal. She performed backing vocals on Gene Simmons solo album (1978), the Molly Hatchet album Take No Prisoners (1981), and on Olivia Newton John's 1985 single "Soul Kiss." She was a member of the music group The Harlettes consisting of Bette Midler's backup singers, in (1978), and again from 1982 to 1983. In 1994 she released her first solo album Well... In 2004 she released her second album Room. One early role was a receptionist in the detective Columbo installment "Candidate For A Crime" (1973) which was directed by her father Boris. Katey Sagal briefly appeared in the 1986 music video for Debbie Harry's song French Kissin (in the USA). Sagal's first major role was a newspaper columnist in the series Mary (1985-86) Starring Mary Tyler Moore. This led to her being cast as Peggy Bundy on Married... With Children. 🙋🎸👩🎤📺

I was a kid when this show aired, about 8-10 years old, but I remember loving this show and watching it faithfully with my sister. Grease 2 is even another of our favorites and we loved the twins in that too. I was shocked to learn years later that Peg Bundy was their older sister but it made for awesome trivia!

Liz Sagal and I studied on a dance scholarship together at Dupree Dance Academy, back in the day … and Jeannie would come take classes as well. It was a golden era in Hollywood - the beginning of MTV and breakdance movies. We were all gigging like crazy.

'Double Trouble' was also inspired by a book series on teenage identical twin sisters, Elizabeth (Liz) and Jessica Wakefield from the 'Sweet Valley High' book series that debuted in 1983. The one twin, Liz, was a good student, friend, sister, and more conservative than her wild, often times selfish, fashion/fame obsessed twin, Jessica. Liz's room was neat and Jessica's was a mess. They were quite opposite from each other for being identical twins. They were still close despite their many differences. In the '90s the books were made into a tv series starring identical twins, Brittany and Cynthia Daniel. They were also Double Mint twins like Liz and Jean. Cynthia is married to Cole Hauser (Rip Wheeler from 'Yellowstone'). Brittany continues to act, but Cynthia quit when she got married. The last time Brittany and Cynthia appeared in anything together was 'That '80s Show,' which only lasted one season. Brittany also appeared on 'That '70s Show' as Eric Forman's cousin from Florida.

My big sister had some of those books when I was young, and I remember she had one witha portrait of Liz on the cover, and when I saw the thumbnail to your video, i wondered if these girls ever played the Wakefield twins in the TV adaptation of Sweet Valley High. They look similar to that book cover, except brunette!
I remember those books. The good girl/bad girl twin trope has been around since women first existed. It was common in Victorian novels.
@@marisadaniela6 I don't know the model's name but I used to see her modeling in those Hairstyle magazines. There's only one of her, she's not a twin. They used her image for Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield.

I watched this show as a kid. I was 8 when it started. A few years later, as a big Married With Children fan, I was reading am article or interview with Katey Sagal and it mentioned her kid sisters, Liz and Jean, from Double Trouble. I remember being blown away because, when you're 11 or 12, that kind of thing is mind-boggling for some reason.

I remember enjoying the show when they were with their aunt. But it's been nearly 40 years since I last saw an episode, I'll have to watch again to jog my memory of the details and feel of the short-lived series. They are cute, and have me thinking of the David Crosby song "Triad".

I remember Double Trouble from my childhood and have also seen a few episodes here on youtube recently.
The Sagal twins and Donnelly Rhodes were great. I am also a fan of Rhodes because of his performance as Dutch on SOAP.
Even though Dutch was an escaped convict, after a couple of episodes he became one of my favorite characters on SOAP.

WOW, I haven't thought about this show since it originally aired in my early teens. I recall I used to watch it from time to time, but I can't remember a single episode or plot point. I was a kid of the 70's & 80's, and shows like this was what I lived for, as I would see stuff like this in the Fall preview TV Guide and couldn't wait to watch it. Of course I remember it for the "twins" angle, and not much else, so thanks for the step back in time, as it's always a fun trip to revisit the 80's, no matter the reason.

I always knew they were related to Katy Segal. Until about 10 years ago I thought she was an aunt or something. That was when I found out that the relationship was that they were sisters. I should have know back then, because they have the same smile and their names are the same. They were very talented girls, and I hate that the show has to end.

I actually liked Double Trouble, and I had a bit of a crush on both twins. They were cool. And then they completely changed the series halfway through, which truthfully didn't work as well for me. The show could have worked a lot longer if the network had more faith in it.
Only years after the series was canceled did I learn that the twins were Katey's sisters and the daughters of director Boris Sagal (who directed a number of good Twilight Zone episodes). So, it looks like Liz and Jean followed the inspiration of their Dad. That's nice to hear.

I had a crush on Liz back in the day, so definitely remember them, this show and its major second season change. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that in the show there was a storyline that the father passed away? That may be another show at that time, though. But I kniw as enjoyable as the second season was, I missed their father-daughter interactions from season 1. I also seem to recall a second funny comedy duo also on that show; two blonde guys. Thanks for the video. It's been a bit since I thought about this show or them.

I definitely remember Double Trouble and loved it! I resonated so much with the quiet and serious twin! I thought they were so beautiful and talented! Double Trouble aired where I lived on Saturday night's with another short lived TV show "Spencer" with the hunky Chad Lowe (before he left the series!).

Wow! I was just last week looking for the intro to the second season of Double Trouble, it was my favorite intro and one of my favorite shows back then. Still is. I loved that show and was very disappointed when it was cancelled. Thank you so much for this video because I always wondered what happened to the twins. I never met the twins, but my favorite job I ever had was working as a phone tech at Columbia Studios when Married With Children taped there. Katey and the whole cast of that show were awesome.

Thanks for paying tribute to this underrated show! I had the biggest crush on the twins back in the day (I was 15). There's an episode in season 2 where the power goes out and they all have fantasy scenes that are really funny! Especially, one has BIlly doing a great Jack Nicholson in the famous diner scene from 5 Easy Pieces. Hahaha. Can't find this show on dvd though,,,,,, major oversight.

Oh I certainly remember Double Trouble! I had a huge crush on them and I watched it religiously. I actually met Liz one time on new years eve 1989. I asked her for her autograph. I just said, okay!!! which one are you Gene or Liz... lol.. She smiled and said "I'm Liz" She could have not been a nicer person.

Sadly, Boris Segal died by walking into the blade of a helicopter while scouting locations. I always loved Double Trouble and thought it was funny the characters were named Kate & Allie considering the Jane Curtin /Susan St. James sitcom was on at the same time.

I also recall Jean & Liz doing a TV commercial for a product back in their TV days, though I cannot recall what the product was. I recall the both of them were casually seated, as if in a patio setting, talking to the camera, upon when one stopped speaking, the other sister would continue the dialogue.
Though I could have a 'Mandela Effect' with regards to my recollection of that TV commercial.
But in doing some searches, the Sagal sisters did do other TV commercials in the 1980s.

I loved Double Trouble ! Of course, I was a 14 year old teen boy, so anything with girls were interesting to me ! I actually watched it because I had seen them in the Grease movie. Thanks for the video. I would have loved some updated pictures, but I think they both try to stay out of the cameras now and I don't blame them. BTW, Liz was also in Howard the Duck as Ronette .

I remember watching both versions of Double Trouble. If you look closely at Jean, she resembles Katie a little more than Liz. Even though they're identical twins, there's something a speck different between their looks.

Double Trouble was one of my fave tv shows at the time it came out! I have some episodes on vhs from USA Network (where it ran in syndication in the later 80s). I think I had some audiotapes of when it was first one (I didn't get a vhs until 1986). I was so sad when it was canceled. I loved the setting in Iowa and when they moved to NYC. I didn't recognize them right away from Grease 2 at first when I started watching but then I was like "They look so familiar!". I did not know how famous their dad was - wow, what a talent he was for sure! I am also so surprised that Katey is their older sister!
