In the original game, Eve had spikes on his back, like Legion in Reincarnation does, and Yuzuki's EX confirmed that WCS is another disease related to God, everything points out that Logic Virus, affecting both machines and androids, it's an evolution to Red Eye Disease, and WCS. Adam/Eve growing up the tattoo might symbolize their transformation into the equivalent Legion's Red Eye

Also consider how the Black Box, which is itself reverse engineered or possibly even made from Machine Cores, has an energy pattern and texture similar to a Shade? YoRHa are closer to humans than they give themselves credit, which makes the start of Route C that much more tragic, as they nearly suffer the same fate. Perhaps 2B and 9S will become the Adam and Eve (proper ones this time, and hopefully without a snake or cain) of a new race of digital humans, there is a new concert story coming out in February, this time voiced by Kira Buckland and Kyle McCarley, I'm hoping it will confirm the connection of Emil, the Machine Lifeforms, and by extension, YoRHa and Humanity. That it's called "The [E]nd of Data" could be a hint at this.
The logic virus isn't related to the WCS afaik, but I agree that they have similar outcomes. The logic virus was something planned by the first ever YoRHa nº9 model, created by Zinnia, to prevent the truth about the YoRHa project to spread out. He purposely created a backdoor in the bunker for the machines to infect the androids. It was a measure to continue the endless cycle of death.

One scene caught me off-guard. Scene where Adam is riding a train. I do not recall trains in Nier Replicant, Automata or Reincarnation (although I haven't played that much of Reincarnation to state that). However there IS a moment in Nier-related content when you find exact same type of train. In the YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse raid series of Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers, during last raid - Tower of Paradigm's Breach Warriors of Darkness (players) along with Dwarven twins - Konnog and Annog, as well as 2B and 9S ascend the tower in order to stop Machines from gaining power from the White Orb (Seed of Destruction) that fell on the island of Kholusia (since events are not happening on Earth but on the First - one of 13 shards of planet Etheirys, almost completely succumbed by Flood of Light and just recently saved from Calamity of Light that should put everything into eternal stasis, it is implied that Arc was launched successfully but on its course it encountered with Seed of Destruction). Tower itself features memories of several Nier Bosses (as other raids in the series did) - Dark Colossus, Girls in Red, but final boss is called "Her Inforescense" which during fight (accompanied by special version of Kaine's theme) uses very specific attack - some time after start of the fights she summons train tracks outside the arena, creating some sort of train platform and train arrives to this platform. And then girls in red start flying from the train. And this is the moment that made me really surprised because this single mechanic and scene with Adam in the train are only two cases in the series where you can see trains. I wonder if it means anything but might as well, who knows?
Something about the red eyes and the logic virus I still don't understand is why does the logic virus exists in automata if humans are dead. Supposedly the red eyes were a sign of mind control by the watchers and the gods to destroy humans but at that point, it doesn't make sense unless there's a human in Automata. As far as we know the closest thing to a human would be... Emil?

That was cool. I'm a huge Nier fan. (more recent) Sucks I've never tried Any Drakengards. Just really hoping for a season two and maybe even a Replicant spin off. I thought I loved the characters in Automata. As much as I do, When I got my hands on Replicant there was such a determination and comaraderie There was no way I couldn't hold Kaine and Emil higher. A2 - Just by being an echo of Kainè and Zero Lily - Maybe she's the real catalyst for change ? Saving the resistance camp from cannibals was huge already tbh 2B and YorHa Commander White are unlikely but not impossible, for example i think the laser cannon vs Adam was fired without council approval. Worth noting, Accord appears on YorHa Girls 1.3aa stage play, she could very likely show up on nier anime aswell...

The Nier Reincarnation reference makes sense once you get to the end of Chapter 4 of Season 3 in Reincarnation. The Cage is actually the Human Server on the Moon. Mamas/Papas/Carriers are Pods, and the playable characters leave for reality in one Pod as Yorha 10H begs for help.
Isn't the Cycle of Life and Death, the said curse, where Androids and Machines fight each other constantly, die, then get restored and fight again and again? Because if it is, the Cycle has been broken after ending E with the Machine Concience leaving Earth and YoRHa getting destroyed. There is some info about the future and how there were a couple more wars mainly between machines only but it is mostly peaceful in the future. The situation seems bright as it can be for 2B, 9S and A2. They survived and get to be finally free to make their own decisions and exist as they see fit. The Resistance is alive, 100% some other YoRHa units didn't get purged as well and the Logic Virus stopped being a thing after the Network left. They will eventually die, nothing lives forever, but they have enough time for each other and that is something they and we wanted. There is a Weapon info that says that Emil saw an android in a black dress (A2 doesn't wear a dress) and he knew her from somewhere but couldn't remember because his memories fade with each clone. I think the time gap between this and the game was a couple of centuries.
They may not be truly immortal, but if Devola and Popola are any indication, they can live for at least 10,000 years provided they are properly maintained and nothing happens to them first. That being said, I hope the Anime and the upcoming concert "episode" continues their "And they lived resiliently every after, cherishing the happy moments as they came." ending and doesn't ruin it.

Those who are familiar with Drankengard and Nier games are aware that the presence of multiverses is prevalent and canon. Especially when Yoko Taro himself said that every medium 2B or the other characters appear in counts as part of the lore. So the idea of having points of convergence and divergence in the anime makes the most sense.
Not sure if you noticed in the opening credits the sword stuck in the lunar tear garden has 9s's back pack tied on it instead of 2Bs blind fold like in the game since 9s puts the sword there to honor 2Bs death

I really hope they reference more of Reincarnation in the last half, I got giddy when I realized what kind of monster Adam took form of. Covering what happens in the Lunar Base, giving bits and pieces of 10H and Pod 006's story especially the 'human genome' or the Cage just like how they covered some of the stageplay in this anime, though Lily replaced Anemone in this one, I guess that's the first divergence.

Thanks! Yes it is confirmed the Nier world has multiple timelines, I didn't do a good job of making this clear in the video. A lot of my own speculating is based of the idea it is the same timeline because I found the idea more fun more so than it being the most likely event.
In Nier Reincarnation, Levania has been identified as a Singularity, necessary to create a branch that would lead in a good ending. The Dark Monsters in Nier Reincarnation are logical viruses created with the Alien's and Machine Life Forms technology, so this is the connection with them and Adam's transformation in the Last Episode.
I think you missed a key detail on singularities. Originally in the drakengard series specifically drakengard 3 is the existence of a singularity. Which is not the enhancement of technology nor is it the breaking of the fundamental laws of time and space of a universe. It instead refers to an individual, a place, or an object that can create alternate timelines. It’s heavily implied that Zero from Drakengard 3 was the singularity that caused the timeline of Nier as well as all the other endings of drakengard 3 to exist. Kaine is also a singularity and has been shown in the latest Nier remake of replicant she is directly responsible for making a new timeline to save Nier. It’s also heavily implied and supported A2 is the Robotic recreation of Kaine as Zero, Kaine, and A2 all share common physical characteristics, and personalities. So one can theorize A2 could possibly be the current singularity especially due to the fact that alternate endings can only be attained after she becomes a key character in the story of Automata. “The predecessor” who disappeared during the battle of the androids and robots exactly fits the description of A2’s history. What’s most fascinating is the idea of a “singularity altercation” which could refer to the idea that the being responsible for branching timelines through their actions can change. This could also explain how Kaine became a singularity herself and the reason why this is a breakthrough in the fight against machines is that if you could find a way to manipulate the process of singularity alternation it opens up the possibility of being able to control the future but while only speculation it still is a breakthrough in understanding more about the singularity itself.

About the 9th episode part, I'm not saying you're wrong but, at the same time, it wouldn't make sense to be related to WCS victims since Popola and Devola, 2 androids, are also there. I think it's just a memorial made out of salt to represent what started this whole thing.
For me the become as gods/become as eve spin is real interesting and makes mostly sense, it’s how they view each other. Eve sees adam as this all important thing, he’s got everything figured out, Eve even sacrifices himself for him. Adam is his god. Meanwhile Eve doesn’t have this level of emotion, the connexion is much more reasonable, eve isn’t a god or anything like that, just eve. I’ll also point that at the end they do literally become as eve, when Adam creates the giant eve with machine bodies. All in all a really cool choice to swap them out and plenty of interesting stuff because of it. (Except the big reincarnation reference, it was ugly boring and unserious but not in a funny way and I’m not exactly sure it meant anything. I wish Adam stayed with the giant eve.)
I see the reason being that the story needed to be shortened a bit. In fact, they combined three scenes into one: alien ship + city replica + library = replica 1.1a. I still don’t understand how Eve died, if it was Adam who made the decision to disconnect himself from the network. For me personally, a lot of it comes down to the concepts of Singularity, Accord and timelines - all of which are in Drakengard 3. Is there a way to somehow play this on PC/steamdeck?

4:30 Seems unlikely to be Maso, at least G-Type. The entire reason the Moon has that chunk out of it and the Earth is tidally locked with the sun is because of the portal the Androids and Replicants opened up to send all the G-Type Maso back where it came from. Or rather because of the energy discharge during that event. There's two types of Maso, Giant or G-Type Maso which is the kind that causes WCS, and Dragon or D-Type Maso which is the kind used in magic and is considered harmless to humans. Also from Ending Y it's shown that the Pods have no trouble identifying Maso, since D-Type Maso is still around, and it's unlikely they would have any difficulty identifying G-Type if they encountered it (it would probably set off every alarm in the bunker and every space station in orbit akin to discovering an Alien signal.) 9:30 Probably because it's easier to animate than Grun but also has 4 arms and is hunched over, it seems they wanted to have the Grun fight here with Adam using it as a Mech instead of another multilegged goliath which t hey had just fought in the previous episode and there was an army of them in the flashbacks of Episode 6. But Animating Grun may have proved to be infeasible in the anime. (especially with how poorly received the CGI in episode 1 was.) So they used a NieR Replicant design that was "close enough" instead, and put a destroyed Grun in the background of episode 8. 11:07 and 11:46 I keep seeing people saying this, but I don't fully buy it, I don't doubt the possibility of the Red Girls subverting the council or being in cahoots with it (especially as it's now a specific entity or possibly the Android equivalent of the Terminals rather than just being fabricated messages like in the game), but while the voices are similar they aren't the same VA. The male voice of the Red Girls is Jouji Nakata (Darin De Paul in the english dub aka Samuel Hayden in the Doom games, ) The Voice of the Council is Hiroki Yasumoto, the same va as Pod 042 and Grimoire Weiss (Matt Mercer in the english dub, who does not voice the English dub of Pod 042 nor Grimoire Weiss.) 11:30 That might not even be 9S, Prevailing theory I've seen is that's No.9, his Prototype from Labo and one of the first YoRHa to be built (I guess he was the 9th that was designed?) Along with No.2. The Prototype for A2 and 2B. "Process 11" was likely added to the Anime in order to set up for an anime original ending, which was confirmed to be happening the moment the anime was announced. Since the game's ending heavily involves the player directly and cannot be adapted. It also creates a further meaning to the "Become as gods" mantra as it appears Process 11 is an attempt at Apotheosis. The more I think about it the more I lean towards it either involving a Seed of Destruction, or something new entirely. The Hex messages mentioning things like "Branch" "Singularity" and "Group B" means they could only have been written by Accord. We also might see the Puppet show take on a more direct role in the story rather than staying as silly omake.

To keep things simple, play "NieR: Automata" the video game (or watch a playthrough). This is the game that is being adapted in the anime. Automata is a sequel to the game "NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139". You can play Replicant first and I think this is what most Nier fans would recommend. But the games are different enough story wise (huge time gap between them, different casts) that I think it's ok to play them in either order. If you're into it after that, dive into the rabbit hole with the remaining games/content and attempt to understand the entire timeline/story

This is opposed to something like ver 1.0.1 which just indicates small bug fixes or ver 1.2.x which is a culmination of all previous releases plus more. That was cool. I'm a huge Nier fan. (more recent) Sucks I've never tried Any Drakengards. Just really hoping for a season two and maybe even a Replicant spin off. I thought I loved the characters in Automata. As much as I do, When I got my hands on Replicant there was such a determination and comaraderie There was no way I couldn't hold Kaine and Emil higher. 9S - Since he's behind most game branches and his past self Prototype No 9 - shown at 11.30 - is a big responsible for YorHa failures.
A2 - Just by being an echo of Kainè and Zero
Lily - Maybe she's the real catalyst for change ? Saving the resistance camp from cannibals was huge already tbh
2B and YorHa Commander White are unlikely but not impossible, for example i think the laser cannon vs Adam was fired without council approval.
Worth noting, Accord appears on YorHa Girls 1.3aa stage play, she could very likely show up on nier anime aswell...
Thanks for the recap! These are really good discussion points. Applying this back to "singularity alternation" then, I guess this literally refers to a repeatedly occurring pattern of a singularity/individual. I guess 9S most closely fits the context but there are a few characters here that work.
The Nier Reincarnation reference makes sense once you get to the end of Chapter 4 of Season 3 in Reincarnation.
The Cage is actually the Human Server on the Moon. Mamas/Papas/Carriers are Pods, and the playable characters leave for reality in one Pod as Yorha 10H begs for help.
Isn't the Cycle of Life and Death, the said curse, where Androids and Machines fight each other constantly, die, then get restored and fight again and again? Because if it is, the Cycle has been broken after ending E with the Machine Concience leaving Earth and YoRHa getting destroyed.
There is some info about the future and how there were a couple more wars mainly between machines only but it is mostly peaceful in the future.
The situation seems bright as it can be for 2B, 9S and A2. They survived and get to be finally free to make their own decisions and exist as they see fit. The Resistance is alive, 100% some other YoRHa units didn't get purged as well and the Logic Virus stopped being a thing after the Network left.
They will eventually die, nothing lives forever, but they have enough time for each other and that is something they and we wanted. There is a Weapon info that says that Emil saw an android in a black dress (A2 doesn't wear a dress) and he knew her from somewhere but couldn't remember because his memories fade with each clone. I think the time gap between this and the game was a couple of centuries.
They may not be truly immortal, but if Devola and Popola are any indication, they can live for at least 10,000 years provided they are properly maintained and nothing happens to them first.
That being said, I hope the Anime and the upcoming concert "episode" continues their "And they lived resiliently every after, cherishing the happy moments as they came." ending and doesn't ruin it.

Those who are familiar with Drankengard and Nier games are aware that the presence of multiverses is prevalent and canon. Especially when Yoko Taro himself said that every medium 2B or the other characters appear in counts as part of the lore. So the idea of having points of convergence and divergence in the anime makes the most sense.
Not sure if you noticed in the opening credits the sword stuck in the lunar tear garden has 9s's back pack tied on it instead of 2Bs blind fold like in the game since 9s puts the sword there to honor 2Bs death

I really hope they reference more of Reincarnation in the last half, I got giddy when I realized what kind of monster Adam took form of. Covering what happens in the Lunar Base, giving bits and pieces of 10H and Pod 006's story especially the 'human genome' or the Cage just like how they covered some of the stageplay in this anime, though Lily replaced Anemone in this one, I guess that's the first divergence.

Thanks! Yes it is confirmed the Nier world has multiple timelines, I didn't do a good job of making this clear in the video. A lot of my own speculating is based of the idea it is the same timeline because I found the idea more fun more so than it being the most likely event.
In Nier Reincarnation, Levania has been identified as a Singularity, necessary to create a branch that would lead in a good ending. The Dark Monsters in Nier Reincarnation are logical viruses created with the Alien's and Machine Life Forms technology, so this is the connection with them and Adam's transformation in the Last Episode.

I think you missed a key detail on singularities. Originally in the drakengard series specifically drakengard 3 is the existence of a singularity. Which is not the enhancement of technology nor is it the breaking of the fundamental laws of time and space of a universe. It instead refers to an individual, a place, or an object that can create alternate timelines. It’s heavily implied that Zero from Drakengard 3 was the singularity that caused the timeline of Nier as well as all the other endings of drakengard 3 to exist. Kaine is also a singularity and has been shown in the latest Nier remake of replicant she is directly responsible for making a new timeline to save Nier. It’s also heavily implied and supported A2 is the Robotic recreation of Kaine as Zero, Kaine, and A2 all share common physical characteristics, and personalities. So one can theorize A2 could possibly be the current singularity especially due to the fact that alternate endings can only be attained after she becomes a key character in the story of Automata. “The predecessor” who disappeared during the battle of the androids and robots exactly fits the description of A2’s history. What’s most fascinating is the idea of a “singularity altercation” which could refer to the idea that the being responsible for branching timelines through their actions can change. This could also explain how Kaine became a singularity herself and the reason why this is a breakthrough in the fight against machines is that if you could find a way to manipulate the process of singularity alternation it opens up the possibility of being able to control the future but while only speculation it still is a breakthrough in understanding more about the singularity itself.
15:00-ish, I'm personally leaning towards the simulation hypothesis, and Accord being the observer, which is why it's only fitting that you showed the Steins;Gate worldline shift animation around then, given that the simulation hypothesis does hold true in that universe as well, lmao.
About the 9th episode part, I'm not saying you're wrong but, at the same time, it wouldn't make sense to be related to WCS victims since Popola and Devola, 2 androids, are also there. I think it's just a memorial made out of salt to represent what started this whole thing.
For me the become as gods/become as eve spin is real interesting and makes mostly sense, it’s how they view each other. Eve sees adam as this all important thing, he’s got everything figured out, Eve even sacrifices himself for him. Adam is his god. Meanwhile Eve doesn’t have this level of emotion, the connexion is much more reasonable, eve isn’t a god or anything like that, just eve. I’ll also point that at the end they do literally become as eve, when Adam creates the giant eve with machine bodies. All in all a really cool choice to swap them out and plenty of interesting stuff because of it.
(Except the big reincarnation reference, it was ugly boring and unserious but not in a funny way and I’m not exactly sure it meant anything. I wish Adam stayed with the giant eve.)

I see the reason being that the story needed to be shortened a bit. In fact, they combined three scenes into one: alien ship + city replica + library = replica 1.1a. I still don’t understand how Eve died, if it was Adam who made the decision to disconnect himself from the network.
For me personally, a lot of it comes down to the concepts of Singularity, Accord and timelines - all of which are in Drakengard 3. Is there a way to somehow play this on PC/steamdeck?

4:30 Seems unlikely to be Maso, at least G-Type. The entire reason the Moon has that chunk out of it and the Earth is tidally locked with the sun is because of the portal the Androids and Replicants opened up to send all the G-Type Maso back where it came from. Or rather because of the energy discharge during that event. There's two types of Maso, Giant or G-Type Maso which is the kind that causes WCS, and Dragon or D-Type Maso which is the kind used in magic and is considered harmless to humans. Also from Ending Y it's shown that the Pods have no trouble identifying Maso, since D-Type Maso is still around, and it's unlikely they would have any difficulty identifying G-Type if they encountered it (it would probably set off every alarm in the bunker and every space station in orbit akin to discovering an Alien signal.)
9:30 Probably because it's easier to animate than Grun but also has 4 arms and is hunched over, it seems they wanted to have the Grun fight here with Adam using it as a Mech instead of another multilegged goliath which t hey had just fought in the previous episode and there was an army of them in the flashbacks of Episode 6. But Animating Grun may have proved to be infeasible in the anime. (especially with how poorly received the CGI in episode 1 was.) So they used a NieR Replicant design that was "close enough" instead, and put a destroyed Grun in the background of episode 8.
11:07 and 11:46 I keep seeing people saying this, but I don't fully buy it, I don't doubt the possibility of the Red Girls subverting the council or being in cahoots with it (especially as it's now a specific entity or possibly the Android equivalent of the Terminals rather than just being fabricated messages like in the game), but while the voices are similar they aren't the same VA. The male voice of the Red Girls is Jouji Nakata (Darin De Paul in the english dub aka Samuel Hayden in the Doom games, ) The Voice of the Council is Hiroki Yasumoto, the same va as Pod 042 and Grimoire Weiss (Matt Mercer in the english dub, who does not voice the English dub of Pod 042 nor Grimoire Weiss.)
11:30 That might not even be 9S, Prevailing theory I've seen is that's No.9, his Prototype from Labo and one of the first YoRHa to be built (I guess he was the 9th that was designed?) Along with No.2. The Prototype for A2 and 2B.
"Process 11" was likely added to the Anime in order to set up for an anime original ending, which was confirmed to be happening the moment the anime was announced. Since the game's ending heavily involves the player directly and cannot be adapted. It also creates a further meaning to the "Become as gods" mantra as it appears Process 11 is an attempt at Apotheosis.
The more I think about it the more I lean towards it either involving a Seed of Destruction, or something new entirely.
The Hex messages mentioning things like "Branch" "Singularity" and "Group B" means they could only have been written by Accord. We also might see the Puppet show take on a more direct role in the story rather than staying as silly omake.

To keep things simple, play "NieR: Automata" the video game (or watch a playthrough). This is the game that is being adapted in the anime.
Automata is a sequel to the game "NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139". You can play Replicant first and I think this is what most Nier fans would recommend. But the games are different enough story wise (huge time gap between them, different casts) that I think it's ok to play them in either order.
If you're into it after that, dive into the rabbit hole with the remaining games/content and attempt to understand the entire timeline/story
