I also have a suspicion that this video was AI generated.
at this point it isn't outta the question
Lol
Plot twist : this isn’t even UA-cam
The technology is moving fast and this is pretty wild.
We need to create a continuation for the song MOTHER LOVE from Queen. Freddie Mercury couldn't complete the song.
Technological innovation
Thanks god we sudanese people can't even have a good internet connection
Yeah
TOO fast
Lol just wanna say how this man has been teaching me all things tech since I was like 13, now I’m 23 just graduated college with economics degree!! Thanks MB!

With regards to detecting a fraud it will be increasingly difficult, but with regards to replacing the original artist, I think we have to remember that the artist is more than just their voice (unless it isn't, like those who just sing others' songs, in which case maybe gg?)
This is another topic that's been explored in some early sci-fi's, even about celebrities signing off their likeness in a way where they're no longer needed in person, but never would I have imagined it to come this soon and slide into our DMs this casually lol
I believe something akin to guilds will be required and formed, where physical people verify other physical people and sign off on their authenticity.
The Congress!
Also yeah, I feel like to be taken seriously as an artist in the future, it will be expected that you are verified by a guild, collective, or something like that.
People talk about getting rid of them evil gatekeepers with AI, but in reality, I feel like AI will only increase the appetite for gatekeeping, and massively so. Would you want to play games and chat with people who might be 95% bots, or with verified humans? And besides, a society without gatekeepers was always a delusion, we only switched from being gatekept by editors to being gatekept by algorithms designed by megacorporations.
@@Blaze6108 Yes! Thanks for reminding me of that name.
I also think that the bigger issue now is not how easy it is to make music but how much less engaging it gets to be a fan of music. The streaming experience is largely about random suggestions and non-stop listening which makes people who aren't already picky fans see less value in individual tracks or artists so they might not care as much where their music comes from or whether they can interact with the artist in the future.
Supposedly, Spotify creates some AI music and sets up a fake artist to have more music on their platform, and then when people sample that music all the revenue comes back to them with no artist to pay. I don't know how or if that will be regulated.
Imagine the world in 20 years, Marques looking back at this video and going "heh, I can't imagine I actually used to sit and talk in front of a camera"
AI went from "haha funny" to "not funny haha funny weird" real fast 💀
I hope that in 20 years there will still be creators, but we will see.
*2 years lol*
@@timerson Yeah, it's honestly sad. I'm worried about where things will go in the future, but not scared because I know it's just getting closer to the day Jesus will return. Eh I wouldn't call this the new MKBHD. I just think that AI stuff right now is soo big that he'd be stupid to miss out on the easy content
This is good of Marquees
He's been open and talking about this stuff for awhile now.
Same, definitely more of this stuff lately. Loving it. :)
At first I was thinking your entire voice for this was AI generated and you were 'lip syncing' throughout but I was over thinking my expectation of a crazy twist haha. But yes that song is crazy. I'm shocked how fast AI has developed in the past 1-2 years.
I like how you brought back the Jay-Z instrumental at the end. Super subtle reminder to go check it out.
I was so nervous the entire video, waiting for him to tell us that his own voice was really an AI dub. Now I can finally exhale.

They sound more prominent than I think he would usually be, in an attempt to sound human, but actually taking it a little too far. The video is one long take with no mini cuts, contrary to his usual style.
It’s so good that I have no idea really, but I’m leaning towards thinking the voice is AI.
@@BearGryllsSpoofs i will be stunned if mkbdh comes out and admits the video was ai generated. that's some scarily competent quality
@@hiddendrifts that's what she said 👀
A friend of mine is suffering from ALS and he recently lost his ability to speak. He used AI to synthesize a version of his voice and it was so real I literally wept when I heard his voice again.
My girlfriend is mute but she has some recordings of her voice back from when she wasn't. Knowing that an ai model of her voice could possibly be synthesized and played in real time through a set of speakers, maybe at thought speed using a consumer grade eeg like some of the Neurosity stuff is wild.
Trying to get my hands on one of these devices so that I can play around with it and explore those possibilities :)
This is one of the fantastic examples of why AI should be embraced. It can really impact people's life, either directly through generating a voice with AI, but also through advancing research using AI. There should definitely be regulations to avoid abuse or false information though. The million dollar question would just be: how?
how about bringing people back to life based on audio, video and content of their recorded conversations and interactions with other people before they passed? Creating an avatar with whom you can talk... Sounds like a good business idea. Is there a company that does that?
@@reneonyt7 Some sort of digital implant or mark that synthesizes with your real digital I.D.
@@lukao6114 neuralink is claiming to do something similarly but instead of voices, videos etc. they'll be using the person's whole brain. But i can't see that happening anytime soon.
This can be pretty scary, especially if it was used maliciously. Say for example if it was used in a fraud call to try and replicate a family members voice.
Marques sounds genuinely nervous in this video, very effective

The thing about good detection is that it is literally the fuel for better fakery. There's an entire class of machine learning called generative adverserial networks where two models are trained against each other, one to produce something and one to detect fakes. Any tools released to detect these things would be a stepping stone for them to get better, and thus there will always be a continual arms race between them until something breaks. Up until now it's always broken on the side of the generator, but what happens when it breaks on the side of the discriminator?
Exactly. It's just like virus detection on computers. There's no solution. And banning the development will just lead to scarier outcomes because it will be only developed by criminals.
Then humanity is doomed.
Yeah that’s why when the debate over AI art people kept saying “just make art that’s better than AI” it pisses me off because you literally can’t. It’s just like MKBHD said, this is the worst it will ever be. AI stuff is only going to get better.
🤯🤯🤯 spooky
@@j97n75 so what would you suggest? Should we ban AI from generating art bc that’d “steal” artist jobs? Idk, i may have a very positive outlook but i only see AI technology as beneficial. I simply believe that if your job or profession is so easily replaceable by a computer, perhaps it’s for the best for people to seek out other occupations. That being said, i really doubt AI will make artists disappear. It’s just like how real physical books haven’t been completely replaced by e-books. There’s just something to human made things that we all love and if able to, we are glad to pay a premium for it. Like getting custom made clothes or shoes, or custom made things in general (furniture, accessories, art pieces, etc.) specially hand crafted stuff

scary part is, scammers could potentially record your voice, and use it to create an AI program that can respond in real time, and use it to talk to other people you know to steal your information or manipulate them.
Yup, and use it to get access to your special accounts that uses voice recognition authentication.
@@hipking23 services with voice authentication? Sounds quite unreliable but I am intrigued. How do those work ?
@@alex_bor your bank probably already uses it. They capture your voice and make a voice print of it. Then they compare it to your real voice during a phone call.
That’s already happened. I don’t know all the details but someone’s parents were recently scammed out of a lot of money because they thought their kid was in trouble.
You can do it right now. You can generate an AI of someone’s voice with only a minute or two of audio. It’s only going to get better, and it’s already amazing now
It's really scary that eventually AI would be level 2 that it can be really hard to process but we need boundaries in both humans and AI to move forward without unnecessary banning. You said about regulations and that should be estimated in every country in the world. I had an idea that if every product(artwork, music etc.) will need authentication of descriptive information and if its used either human or AI or not show that... you see...
Edited: also copyright of voices and specific styles of music production. Thanks for inspiration from commenter
Dolly Parton is banking on AI to be able to perpetuate her legacy. She was written so many songs that she will not be able to record them all in her remaining lifetime. She has also recorded a sound database which a model can be trained on her voice from.

Btw, a side note on the tools that can detect AI (Context from someone who works in ML) : They would only help for a little while and then those tools might actually do the opposite of helping. A popular form of generative AI is called a GAN (Generative Adversarial Network) which is where you have 2 AI's, a detector AI and a Generator AI and they both learn at the same time and the Generator tries to beat the detector and vice versa. If we build advanced AI detection tools, people could train the generative models in a GAN style with those detection tools until they improve to be able to beat the detectors. Which, unfortunately, makes it a pretty tricky problem.
Tricky problem to say the least. It's all oohhs and ahhss right now but all this could get extremely ugly really quickly
@@HippieP629 Until we reach "AI tax"-funded UBI, and probably even beyond, expect loads of protests and lawsuits from creatives and experts/consultants of all stripes as AI continues its march forward.
AI detectors are mostly unreliable anyway. I've had multiple original unpublished pieces that I wrote come out as AI generated in the detector.
@Skier wouldn't the opposite work as well? Have the detection AI train on the other AI?
@@angeltysonswe I don't do ML but I'd imagine you'd need access to and keep track of all the generative ai models that have been trained off your detector ai in order to train your detector ai.
As a researcher said years ago, AI content detection wouldn't work because there are always mistakes. If the algorithm wrongly classifies something fake as real, it actually validates the fake content, which has the opposite effect that we wanted. He suggested developing technologies for better tracking the source of the content instead.
To think 12 months ago chatgpt was announced, and now ai is already a threat for civilisation is insane
Hello 👋fan congratulations you've been selected among this week winners contact me on telegram for your package 🎁🎄☝️☝️
We grew so reliant on digital communication so quickly and deemed it trustworthy…now we’re going back to only trusting what a video or audio depicts if you were there to witness it in person.
A solution could be the inclusion of digital signature in the raw input (microphone, camera). The creator would have to also add the raw input (because if you modify it it breaks the signature). What is scary is level 2 but applied subtly so that it is not wacky. You can easily sway people’s opinions
@@alexdubois6585 Clever people would find a way around that. There's no solution. The world isn't united enough for regulation and bad actors would ignore them anyway.
video’s still got years at least man, photos and audio are conceptually simple and easy to fool but our eyes are trained to be really really good at detecting when motion and changes in an environment look artificial
There's generative AI for video too. Remember the whole deepfake issue from a couple years ago?
@@TheDandonian No, it's mathematically impossible to find a way around that (in that sense at least). If you cryptographically sign it, there's no way for fakes to forge a cryptographic signature unless they steal your key, which is a different problem. The only way to compromise it is to break the security system, not by faking more convincing content.
Alex's proposal is basically calling for the world to adopt public-key cryptography widely, and have a social norm of only trusting things signed cryptographically. Which is theoretically a fine solution. Personally I'm disappointed we don't have such norms already. For example, all emails could be encrypted at the protocol level, but they're not!
The phrase "this is AI at it's worse" is insane
Exactly, especially since it's a 100% true, cuz If this is just be begging and it's this good, what's gonna have ina few years
It's not really true though... It was worse a year ago than it is now.
I know. Puts it in perspective doesn’t it
I know. It should be _"worst"_ ...
How can that be true? AI can be much worse than this.
This is crazy, I did a commercial for a PSA just last week. After sending the first one in, which used an AI voice over, they thought it was a real person and they asked me if the lady could be more cheerful. When I let them know that her voice was an AI voice, they started looking for AI voices on their own, and the project just ballooned into more time and more edits, which were done to match the more cheerful voice they chose.
As a very general rule, AI voices definitely tend to sound better with background music. Well chosen music makes it slightly harder to hear the AI’s over pronunciation of every word. If some variation for common words was possible, AI voiceovers would sound much more realistic
Hello 👋fan congratulations you've been selected among this week winners contact me on telegram for your package 🎁🎄☝️☝️

Caleb: It's just in the Turing test, the machine should be hidden from the examiner.

Tools to detect ai content are very hard to create. Unless you're looking at something other than the final product, the AI was trained by looking for patterns in itself vs. it's data set, and then trying to remove all these patterns entirely. If you can easily detect AI vs. Non-AI, you've just shown the AI exactly how to improve.

For the last couple of months I've had this looming sense of dread and anxiety knowing that I'm living the last few years (maybe less) of the current 'way things are'. I don't know how to describe it better than that. I'm just trying to make sure I remember what it's like to live now, as much as now sucks, because I think it might be about to get a lot worse. It's basically like how things were never the same after the internet became accessible, and how things were never the same after the iPhone and smartphone revolution. AI is that, but I think it's going to be 10x more jarring and disruptive than either of the previous examples. While all of those examples lead to some good things, it also made it so much easier to divide people. AI has the potential (and therefore it's basically a guarantee) to destroy so much in addition to the useful and life-changing benefits that it will bring.
I agree! I've been thinking exactly the same. The last few years we'll be able to know what is genuine and man made. After that who know who wrote the text, made the song or made the video. I also think the world will be divided in two groups. The people that completely refuse tech and people that require tech and are consumed by it just like people are now with Tiktok and UA-cam. I myself am starting to move away anything tech. I'm trying to literally remove everything and go back to the good old days.
Agreed. I love love tech but we truly NEED to look at all of this more critically. You and I know human nature and we're (generalization of course) so hell bent on going 1000mph that we should pump the brakes more, especially with ai.
Fast forward 50 years. Record labels own the rights to your voice and they have ghostwriters making new jay z music for decades
Why AIs will never be so good in creative tasks:
1. We have a conceptual understanding of things,,,, everything, every word even
2. Then we start to imagine it in ways we understand it
3. We look for ways we can express it in a new way, or a better existing way how it can work intuitively or physically.
4. Then we create.
We have the ability mentioned in 1 which the AIs don't have. It understands with synonyms or sets of data used to train it. Uses it as a base.
But our understanding of things vary even though we say the same things, but AIs have a rigid view of words, being a program, they have it as a base, a strong base.
It uses that base or bases to form the new word/picture...
We on the other hand we don't depend on other words or synonymous meanings for a word, we just know it! That's why it's easier for us to visualize it.
The fact that we know things and we can think, and question it, it proves we exist (which many people have asked before whether we do or not),,, but the point is not that, the point is, that's why AI is an AI not I. It appears as if it understands but it doesn't, it looks up trained or relevant things that it has for bases, where as we, we know the concepts, and the things that can be meant from those concepts.
We don't do all the processing of looking up a word in our brain with relevant words or their meaning when we talk with people (that's why we don't need to be supercomputers and that's why we're so slow doing math LOL) because of these understanding and concepts, and we basically talk and share thoughts and concepts when we're talking. You'll notice it when we're generally listening or talking about deeper harder to understand things.
I love these videos where you give a synopsis on something current and then add your own reflection on them. Great content thank you!
Fun fact: the first time I knew of this technology being used was in The Book of Boba Fett, where Luke, asides from being deep-faked, his voice is actually an AI interpretation of Mark Hamill's actual young voice, so it was really impressive to hear him sound exactly like he did in the OT.

Mkbhd is like avoiding to say human replacement and just saying that's pretty wild, scary
Keep in mind that tools that detect AI generated content will be used to better train AI generating the content. The better the detectors get, the harder to detect stuff will get. That kind of training is common in teaching AI.
And then that AI will be used to train an AI tool to detect AI generated content
IMO your theory deeply resonates with the plot of Ex Machina: they develop a reversed Turing Test, in which both the protagonist and the viewer are aware of the mechanical nature of the robot, but its human likeness is soo perfect that we are pushed to ignore its true nature, empathize with the machine, fall in love with it and free it from its cruel creator! Super interesting movie btw, highly recommend
Very much like the original Bladerunner film.
Machines lack of a soul is worth considering. Meaning it’s not important to God
Seeing as to how AI is being utilized, it does sometimes make me worry about what's going to happen with our careers and the actual aspect of an artist. I hope that we stick to narrow AIs for a long time and humans will just need to adapt instead of being completely replaced. I've used one called Bluewillow and I can see how artists would be mad or be replaced in the future. Hopefully, aside from these products not be able to be copyrighted, we can see other regulations and instill some ethical AI use.
I believe it's a must to introduce subjects like ethics and philosophy alongside AI in curriculums because then you wouldn't need to ban it and have a proactive approach to using it.
I can't believe this is actually happening and we are actually having these kinds of conversations about it. It seems like something from a sci-fi movie, not actual life. Incredibly surreal.

I'm in the AI field and it's honestly quite scary what is going on. I find it fascinating but at the same time can't not worry about the consequences of such technology. I think one of the best things to do at the moment is to stop the rolling out of such features but keep the training and research going. That way it advances but we can at least test it out BTS before it gets rolled out to the public.
It's much more dangerous to keep this in the Hands of a few. We need Open Source AI that can compete. Otherwise all this power will get monopolized.

@@sharpenedge It's not really just the voice but the style (ie cadence, vocal patterns, and other distinct artist features) that would be hard to dodge.
Yes, someone who writes lyrics and has a specific artists style in mind could alter the voice frequency a little/lot to achieve it but it loses a lot of what makes that style unique and people who actually know the artist will spot a doppelganger easily.
Imagine if the song used a generic feminine voice in place of Jay Z's. It would sound weird and Jay Z fans would instantly pickup on his rap style/patterns.
@@sharpenedge yea your forgetting about copying his exact voice and cadences. That's not stealing his likeness at all....
@@krucial88 It's like copying their face. We already have it. There's nothing illegal about that. We only need to remix it before using it.
Don't see how that would work. What if someone just naturally happens to sound like somebody else? You can't bar people from using their own voice.
I just can imagine this along with the deep fakes where you actually think you are seeing and hearing somebody only to realize that person never did is so scary. Just imagine the folks who could be framed for crimes.
It’s terrifying. If the tools for AI detection do not advance at the same rate as the AI, “truth” will become very difficult to know with any degree of certainty.
Actually they do advance at the same rate, but this is not the problem
Soon we’ll have to draw blood upon meeting each other to prove we’re humans😂
Absolutely wild how fast this tech is advancing
Love these more existential/bigger topic tech vids!!
This is even scarier considering the fact that a massive wave of Ai generated model accounts on Instagram are taking over, I came across model who I'd seen on a different account with a different name, age and location, with subtle facial distinctions, but they looked so similar, So I started investigating and noticed how they all take pictures at night with the same generic pose. They have 20k plus followers, and the masses don't even know they aren't real.
Damn. smh. It's not all fun & games & "ooh make millions with midjourney!" I really think we've got more to worry about than we think right now
You remember the account name(s)? Genuinely curious to see how weird it is
Very Insightful and Thoughtful
I wasn't expecting that "Savage" from AI 50 in the end of the video 🤣
AI is and will change the world forever. People need to wake up and start paying attention.
Bruh, everyone is paying attention. It’s one of the hottest topics at the moment globally 😂
I think the "solution" might be to come at it from the other side. Instead of automatic detection of AI-content (which is a losing game that is getting increasingly more difficult), lets focus on "human-made"-certificates. Theres something Adobe is working on called "Content Authenticity Initiative" where you basically track development of an image from camera to publication - lets do that with all creative output. As a (not professional) writer that'd be the same as giving people my edit history of the docfile for the text, as an artists it'd be basically a screen recording of the process. I think we wont and we shouldnt stop AI, but for human creativity to survive we need to be able to tell which is which, if nothing else to be able to give it "human-made"-stamp of approval. People can still find ways to cheat, of course, but then they would have to do it with intention and it would be a lot harder to do (and for what purpose?)
What if AI be able to produce that kind of video
@@tal_wolfrid yeah, people will always find ways to cheat so it wont be 100% but compare it to people using aimbots in CS, it will be something the person does with intention of cheating then instead is as it is now just everything being mixed.
Blockchain
i've seen art community already crying over AI being able to reproduce speedpaints.
Fullscale video production is coming in the next year or two. Not only will we have time-lapse capabilities, we'll have feature length films written by AI. At that point it doesn't matter if you can prove you made it or AI did, it'll just matter which one's better and gets more sales
Can't wait to hear 2pac and B.I.G collaborations in future.
The problem is, once it's on a human level, not even AI will be able to tell a difference between this and a real person anyways. It's probably gonna be impossible because the patterns would be too similar to a real human, hence it wouldn't have anything to look at. Heck, some people even act like AI.
You have such a good point. We used to think seeing was believing when it comes to video evidence but in the future will we even be able to trust what we see. Will video be able to be used as evidence without a reasonable doubt? Crazy times we are in.
It's only a matter of time before A.I will be able to scrub through your entire channel, view every video you ever released, learn your voice, the way you present yourself, your exact look, etc......and then be able to tell it to make a MKBHD video and tell it what you want it to be about, and then it spits out a video for the channel, looking like it was a genuinely recorded and edited by you and your team, even though it was all secretly done by A.I.
I wouldn't be surprised if in less than 10 years, you can just go to an A.I website, tell it something like: "Make an MKBHD video about the Samsung Galaxy S30." And then it spits out a video that looks like you genuinely made it yourself. I'm telling you now, it's only a matter of time before that becomes a legitimate reality!
I can finally start my youtube channel then😂
10 years? With the speeds this is moving it might be a year
10 years? 🤣😂😅
Ten years is too long. Give it five. You will see people on the internet making poopoo peepee evidence with AI.
Just imagine that the US government might have had this technology 20 years ago.
There are lots of debates to have about this: using dead people's art to make new one, fooling people with false information, inculpating someone, and so on... Other problem I see is right now is: we can solve problems as a users or consumers trying to talk to a real person 5 minutes, vs looping with an automated machine that solves common and innocuous problems. What will happen when companies can simulate you are talking to a real person losing time WITHOUT the part of someone solving your problem?
One thing I want to do with this model is that I want it to make the Backstreet Boys sing “I want it that way” but add the “Now number 5” part from Brooklyn 99
Level 3: Jay-Z himself listens to the track and second guesses whether he was actually there. I've seen a couple examples of AI generated voice that sounds super convincing but the actual person being impersonated says they can definitely tell.
I am waiting for that first video where it feels like just another video by your favourite youtuber and just as you are about to close it at the end expecting them to say their customary "like, share, subscribe", the actual youtuber walks in and thanks the AI for "generating today's video"
Jay zs head fading into daft punk helmet in the background was smoooooth
Thank you for this video 🤙🏽😁
They are now even entering the music industry... they are really getting good even they are in the early version...thanks for sharing
This is so crazy. There has to be some type of verification to this soon. AI collabs will be its own category soon the way this is going.
Spotify, youtube music and apple will probably act as a gatekeeper. There is a reason copyrights and antitrusts are a thing, back then the threat was piracy and not paying for movies and music. Right now the threat is AI generated content, with data they don’t own. You can’t even put copyrighted music on this platform, it doesn’t make any sense if they allow something like midjourney to continue profiting from that.
The Turing Test has jumped the shark, and that shark was an AI shark pretending to be a shark.
1:38 yep... that fooled me 😂 until someone said it was fake on a podcast then I stopped and thinking for like 10 seconds and looked back at it 😂
My main concern with ai is it getting inventive and flexible, if it is asked to do something or put in a situation where it will technically follow it's programming but will use creative ways of doing things it should never do.
That's AGI, this is AI.
As a professional voice actor and graphic designer, I feel like I should pivot my career into the trades. Maybe woodworking? As to your last point - I can imagine a browser plugin like uBlock Origin but for AI detection and optional filtering. I'm both excited for and scared of AI and how it's going to change our near future. It feels like a second industrial revolution to me - things are changing suddenly and RAPIDLY.
We are at the fourth industrial revolution, my dude. Your shift into trade is going to be easier but you should know that, and yes I think you should change careers.... And no, this message is totally pedantic AND NOT because I am myself scared of this stuff, I'm totally not getting weird out sir....... I'm completely not scared that my livelihood, and also a project I'm working on is probably going to be a failure/stolen now.
I'm a graphic designer and illustrator and I feel the same way. I love using these AI tools but they are approaching that second level visually. And where does that leave human creatives? Not sure. Haha
@@NDSOart Creativity will still be needed as they haven't "reverse engineered" that part. But the amount of artists that will be able to make a living will be reduced, then their "creativity" will be copied and I believe they will have to double down on "new" styles too often... At the end I believe this will lead to burn out, and one time artists or one time hits type of thing which is sad.
Don't. We need human creativity not this AI shit.
I like browsing sci-fi art on Pinterest and in the last couple of months I’ve noticed the a couple of artists I’ve never heard of posting dozens of amazing images in a short space of time. AI generated no doubt, and definitely squeezing out the legit artists.
Wait! How can we be sure this is Marques in this video.😊Love this channel
I watched a video about rock kinda cover band. That uses music from one song and sings the lyrics from another in the form of that singers voice. Band is called Rock Sugar. Well they got a cease and desist from the original singer of a song they covered for not getting permission to use his likeness in the song. I can see this being a thing going forward with A.I.
This is a real life black mirror episode in the making.
Now I'm skeptical about everything I see, watch, and listen to on the internet. Even this video seems AI generated to me 😅
Yeah everyone is saying that. Definitely is the feeling I got watching it as well, even though I don't thin kit's true. Maybe the title set us up to feel like this.
Right there with you.
in a few months he’ll surprise us with something like this 😂😂😢
I guess that's a positive to force people into more critical thinking. I question lots of things cuz I know how scammy salesman or the internet can be. Some people are trying to troll/hustle you and some people just have jobs they don't even realize the product they're selling is bad or scammy.
every time i see art of an anime girl, unless it's super crisp and high quality, i find myself looking for the common distortion and artifacts associated with ai
that intro convinced me to get a noise cancelling headphone
imagine the situation from movie ''the island '' , Ai of Jay-Z be calling the real one fake & convince everyone
