This is such an underrated version. The video is spot on as that is actually the Ullswater, Kirkstone pass, and Windermere, and the voice... my goodness its a shame modern music seems to ignore the deeper ranges of men's voices, this was beautifully done.
OMG, have always loved this song but this is the DEFINITIVE VERSION--singing, nuance, emphasis, background, everything!!! Shared it on FB commenting that it affected me at the molecular level which was a nice way of saying something much earthier, lol!!!
What a grand cover of a fine song - probably Archie's finest. Fell in love with it when I first heard Stan's cover (and Stan did not cover many) and that led me to Archie those many years back. The video is great too - adds some good context. Thanks for sharing.
Hank's voice is amazing. Best rendition of this song by far. Hank is such an interesting character. I never heard of him so read his bio. Very talented.
Thanks for the video. You have a very strong voice well suited to this song. Though I get a feeling it could have been warmer. The heavy wool sweater, vest, and (goretex?) parka kind of hinted at that.
I think not. She was a witch and so could perform magic. She simply changed form to a woman. I don't think she would have "stood in a gown of velvet blue" while still in the form of a Centauride (female centaur, pronounced "Kentauride"). That would have been tacky. 😁

yup, it's guaranteed banger time
Wonderful! I love this song and this is right up there with Archie Fisher and Stan Rogers! It's brilliant.
12 years ago and still great
Sweet, direct, powerful, delightfully simple, almost naive and well anchored to the land. A great unpretentious performance.
you kissed the light on this one,,, I salute you and all Celtic bros!!

I'll raise a glass to that!
this is without a doubt my favorite performance of the song

A nice version.
My favorite is still Archie's though it was Stan who introduced me to the song many years back.
One of my favorite songs, beautifully rendered by a magnificent voice! What a treat!
Direct and honest.... Excellent.
Hank's voice is amazing. Best rendition of this song by far. Hank is such an interesting character. I never heard of him so read his bio. Very talented.
Brilliant rendition,,,,,,a think Stan would like this version
What a voice!
Wonderful! ...and BRAVO! A fine voice telling a great story with lyrics I could understand ALL of. You did a fine job.
Thanks for the lyrics. I have been searching to find them.
This is fab
Such an amazing cover! Keep up the amazing work
Terrific version.
Thanks.
Such a good song too, it'd be good to hear Hank with the other verses.
I like that hat.
I need that hat.
Gimme tha hat
Beautifully done.
Great job, Hank!
Absolutely amazing, almost like a Ewan Macoll song
Yes!
This was great!!!!!!
I think your cover is the best of them all
Very great
Play this at my end please!
Stan Rogers would be proud.
Looked for this album on Amazon, wasn't there. How can I purchase a CD?
A great cover of Archie Fishers piece, I found your version easier to understand the lyrics, & you have a great BARITONE voice.!!!!!!!!!!!

where'd you get the ugly jacket?
fantastic delivery very powerful definitely on par with Stan Rogers if not better
Wasn't this tale written by Stan Rogers?
No, It was written by Archie Fisher, Stan made it internationally famous when he recorded it with Archie's consent.
better than Stan, tho I came to it tru stan
I'd have to certainly disagree with you.
Sam 22 stan's voice was off in his rendition
Susanne Jerome Sorry, but what do you mean by "off"? The only thing I notice to be different is the intensity and sustain on some of the notes.
Susanne Jerome
yes he is a great man even decades after his death.
Oh, dry up.
also this song describes bestiality, but that's it's only downfall
pretty sure she passes the Harkness test..
Dominic White no. No it does not

@@Rikki0 Good point. I suppose this is something to be assumed.
Nicolarse, you are neither profound nor witty ... return to listening to music for the immature ...
shame for such a great reccording to get such an awfull video bit, anything would have been better in that respect
these are the places where the song takes place
Is he singing "ruined" shield, as it was damaged?
If I'm not mistaken, he's singing "Rowan shield".
Anne Nonymous yes, Rowan is a type of wood.
@@slimeytoes Aye, and it was supposed to have magical properties that could ward against magic.
