I was absorbed by this video. I've always had an interest in Native Americans/ indigenous people, also a sadness. They were the keepers of the land. I respect them whole heartedly. Their stories on rock are priceless.
I live in Snowflake Az, and there is a canyon 6 miles from my house that is so much like this one. I have hundreds of pictures that I wish I could show you, however I don't have a scanner to add them to my computer. I'm almost 70, moved here when I was 45, and I'm still recovering from major back surgery. I used to visit that canyon a few times every year. Some of the petroglyph's are so old, and getting very faded, but still, I would see something new every time I went.
Hello Lydshome, thanks for watching and your comments. I know the feeling you have as during my journeys I have visited several sites several times and each time I returned I saw something that I did not notice before.........alex
I lived in Snowflake in the early 90's, loved the people. There is lots of country up there with the first people remains, also down around Globe/San Carlos where I was raised. Used to see a lot of this when out riding my motorcycles or horses.
Rock Art Ranch is a magnificent place to see where the ancients lived, their amazing petroglyphs in Chevelon Canyon and to meet Mr. Brantley Baird. We went with about 6 friends and they all loved it too!
For the viewer's reference, the Rock Art Ranch subject content begins at 4:41. Also, the old moniker "Tonto Rim" (also used by author Zane Grey) is used in this video as a synonym for the Mogollon Rim (the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau), which is north of the town of Young, Arizona and the Tonto Basin, where more ancient ruins (around the town of Young), cliff dwellings, pottery remnants and tools are found, some in the Sierra Ancha Wilderness south of Young. ~ Considering that this is the best video I've seen on Rock Art Ranch so far, I'm sharing it with others via my large Arizona playlist, which is a video tour of much of the state. Thanks for posting it.
I went there only a month ago, right at the end of September 2016; I can honestly say that I was awed nearly to the point of shock by the petroglyphs in that canyon and the feel of the place-- it didn't feel empty, and it felt wonderful. Maybe it was the water; who knows? But I think I could stay in that canyon for a week, look at and photograph the petroglyphs there every day of it and never see them all. I loved it and plan on going back; it's truly a magical place in every sense of the word, and Mr. Baird and his granddaughter were both incredibly kind.
i was there during christmas break of 2016. great place! brantley and his family are genuinely warm and welcoming and what they charge is nothing compared to the unique experience! thanks for this video since i wanted to interview him myself!
What a pleasure to watch, most of the time holding my attention for more than a few minutes on a Utube vid is difficult. Honor to see Mr. Baird and hear his story, what a place!!!
+storiesbyalex Thanks, Alex. I forward 1 or 2 videos a week to my 89 yr old mom and best friend. Just found you last month and am playing catch up. The one where you got heat stroke out alone was a wake up call. Where to next......Tiki
Tiki, presently, I am in Canada, but I have film footage from many places that I visited in the past several years and have not yet decided what to produce. The journey continues....alex
Thanks...I just happened to be talking with Brantley when the subject of the Army came up and he mentioned that he was stationed at Fort Ord. But even before that I thought he would be a great person to interview. I really enjoyed making this film.......alex
Did you know Monte Walters over there in Winslow Az? I think he may have been a Hashknife Cowboy. Met him back when I lived over in Winslow many years ago. I sure enjoyed my old Winslow Days and I sure did a lot of exploring around there. If I can visit again I will come visit your place for sure. Take Good Care Larry S. Retired
Hello, thanks for watching thw video and your comments. I did not know Monte Walters. If you do return to Winslow I would highly recommend going to the Rock Art Ranch......................alex
It says the art is Archaic period form 8000 to 2000 BC. There is a lot of Archaic in there, but there is also some early Puebloan art as well, from the 1250 to 1350 AD period, during the Hopi and Katsina migration era. It's a good representation in a confined area, so it you are interested in ancient archaeology, it would be a very worthwhile stop.
Hello, Access Monterey Peninsula (AMP) is Monterey's public broadcast channel and can be seen on several local channels - 24, 25, 26 & 27. However, they can only be viewed locally. AMP also has several Webcasts. Do a google search for AMP Monterey for their web site.....alex
I could have listened to Mr. Baird for hours. The day before I filmed he had a ranch hand with him who was 92 years old and still rode a horse. Unfortunatly, he was not at the ranch on the day I filmed.......alex

The years since you began the series are also the record of your own personal aging.... Fascinating 🕊️....
Now this is one place I'd love to get to explore
“Following a thread” is the most beautiful thing I’ve heard in awhile.

Wow, so interesting!! I may never get out to Rock Art Ranch but so glad I can visit it here. Thanks
