Billy, you have written my hymn !! Exactly four years ago, I got sick and had to stay in hospital and rehab for 3 months. I had doubted whether I was to come out of this alive. Since then, nothing has been the same. the bitter taste remains no matter how I try to stay positive and move on. You express exactly how hurt I feel inside and how it still feels... THANK YOU SO MUCH !!
You can't write and perform a song as soulful as this without experiencing the darkness Billy went through with his motorcycle accident. Such beauty from such suffering.
Yes, I believe you hit the nail on the head. When a person can take his/her suffering and transform it into a song so that you also feel it. A true artist and I have so much respect for him.
I was a passenger on the back of a road bike in 90 and forced into the oncoming traffic leaving deer Creek reservoir just east of salt Lake City. One of my best friends driving "Dennis W Nash miss you my brother "did not survive the accident. It really seems the coolest of the cool ,the people I look up to ,the people I want to hang out with .those that I don't want to go,go too soon. Perhaps that's just perspective I don't know but I'm 52 years old now and I sure do get lonely for the old days sometimes.. I'd like to think I've learned some valuable lessons along the way and I have the hard way of course. I have more than just hope I have faith that I will see my friend again someday sometime somewhere as well as my family and you're a grateful for my limited knowledge and Christianity. I do believe Jesus Christ is my savior .I do believe he died for my sins and I do believe he came back that we may all be forgiven. It's in this belief that I have faith to see my friends and family again and to be with them forever. No matter how alone or lost I feel I know that God likes me and for that I am truly grateful. It seems when I watch the news it's very easy to develop a negative perspective. Sometimes I have to remind myself that the news feeds on the negative energy and that's what drives the madness. When I stop take a deep breath look around me and think about it from a real perspective there's still a lot of beautiful in the world a lot of good and a lot of cool. I'm going to try and focus on those parts and leave the rest alone. Nobody ever got ahead one a war or became successful by worrying themselves into it. What will be will be and things out of my control are things I try not to worry about. Not to the point of ignorance for many of these things good potentially change my life as well as yours and everyone else but that hasn't happened yet. So I choose to live into here and now I'm going to try harder to turn off the negative because life really is all about perspective in my opinion. Anyway I hope anyone that reads this has a great day know that someone somewhere has it better than you and always will have someone somewhere has it worse than you and they can change that so can you so can I. I tried to edit this ramble but kept having to start over so I'm just going to leave it alone. Please forgive me. It's late for me and I'm tired and running short on patience. 😁 Thanks, Just Brock😎😎

Just can't help but comment again. To me this seems like Billie's absolute magnum opus. It sounds so sincere (in it's literal term) that together with his ripened voice make this an absolute gem. Thank you thank you thank you Billy!
I saw him live on tour just yesterday in Washington. The guys chords are phenomenal, it’s like he hasn’t aged at all. Running back-and-forth on stage, jumping up on speakers, screaming his heart out, it’s truly amazing to see in person. Not to mention Steve Stevens just absolutely shredding on the guitar!!
@@malcolmsmith3590 I just posted the same. It literally was his first top 10 hit in the USA and made it to number 4. I was in high school at the time and you heard it everywhere.
Psychedelic Furs released new music recently. As did Gary Numan, Danny Elfman, Dinosaur Jr, Robert Smith (with Chvrches), Counting Crows, Travis, Bush, The Offspring, Ministry, and others. I know, a lot of those are 90s, not 80s acts. Still, a lot of older groups putting stuff out recently. Pretty cool.
Man, this song is a hit. After all these years, he managed to put out a track that could rise any career. The vocal interpretation is fabulous. I´d love to see a Rick Rubin/Idol collaboration in the way the first did with Johnny Cash, with simple instrumentation and the voice as the main protagonist.

Just like many other people here, I also discovered this song while watching season 3 of The Umbrella Academy and immediately fell deeply in love with it. It's brilliant. I will definitely take a closer look at Billy Idol's newest work. The show used it excellently. It's also incredible how perfect this song is for the character of Klaus; the repeated "hello" and "goodbye" in the chorus is a great reference to his unique tattoos on the palms of his hands, and the mentions of death, darkness and the afterlife perfectly correspond with his powers to communicate with the dead and immortality (he did die an uncountable number of times). These parallels really amazed me.
I ran into this song by accident...i have loved it the first time i ever heard it. one of his best for sure...been a billy idol fan since the beginning
His voice has just gotten better with age. And unlike most male singers who can’t sing in their old octave, he is great. He probably has a portrait in his attic somewhere that ages for him.

I don't want to sound like "that" old lady, but I love it when my 20-something kids listen to, and appreciate, the same music that I do. And vice versa. Loved, loved, loved seeing him and Miley performing together!!
I’m returning right now from his gig at Wembley Arena where he did this song, “Cage” and of course the classics, Rebel Yell, etc. Steve Stevens and Billy were unbelievable!

So many of Billy’s lyrics are incredibly clever. I think Billy is a very eloquent and intelligent man. Just started reading his book…wow! Looks like billy is signing about his motorcycle accident that almost killed him 6 of February of 1990. I'm glad he his still with us love billy idol he's still a rebel.
i was thinking the same thing!!!
It's 100% that, Billy said as much himself at the concert in Wisconsin last week. Outside of that, it also seems to touch generally on Billy's more self-destructive decisions in life. Glad he came out the other side, world is a better place with him in it.
My thoughts exactly
He said that's exactly what inspired this song last night in Washington
Didn't know that.
Damn, all these years later he puts out the best song of his career.

Songs like this once in a while make us realize how timeless Billy's music is
If he had recorded this back in the '80s, this song would have a strong rotation on MTV (when that channel was good of course).
I’ve always loved that he just sounds like Billy Idol and nobody else. He has his own style andrhythm and always seems to tie it all together in a neatly wrapped whiplash smile sort of package.
My God. How? How does he consistently stay so good and get even better? His voice is still good, clear and strong. He just gets better. No wonder he's my favorite male singer.
I just saw him in concert and the guy still has it!
Some artists age like wine.
And who's your favorite singer ?
He has a godly voice. The right amount of raspiness and very melodic as well

Instant classic!!! I love the way old-school singers are showing that music is a never-ending journey to inspire others.
Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, Joe Jackson, Billy Idol, these artists span my entire life and childhood. During these Dark 20s and my personal life ordeal, this was the exact song I needed right now.

Such a triumphant song. At least that's how I hear it. There will be countless covers of it.
Holy Shit! Billy did it again. What a strong song and his voice is like not so young boys anymore, sounds like adult man. And the song sounds like real music, not a crapsong whit samples and digisounds. Thanks Billy. You are Legend!

Billy is a true survivor , some of us go through dark times , its a hard time , but we keep going
Yes, I believe you hit the nail on the head. When a person can take his/her suffering and transform it into a song so that you also feel it. A true artist and I have so much respect for him.
Yes, beauty from ashes …
Thanks,
Just Brock😎😎

Billy is one of my favorite live acts of all time and this song is phenomenal.
They ahould use "Bitter Taste" by Billy Idol in a Bond film. It should be called "A million ways to die".
