Agree on the Flaco Jimenez mood setting . I guess it's because I'm female, I kinda wish there no murders. I realize it's an age-old theme, but what a showman, we'll let Dwight use poetic license this time!
This performance is a master class in musicianship. Dwight's vocals and the instruments blend together beautifully to tell a story. And Dj Pj doesn't disappoint as well. Succinctly pointing out what makes this performance so good and impactful. Thank you for bringing us on this journey with you.
Damn, Dwight was and is just so Damn Good. All his own vocal style. Not replicating anyone! Maybe one day, someone will try to replicate him. Lol Good Luck Boys.
Just a couple nights ago, he, Chris Stapleton, Tyler Childers, Ricky Skaggs, and Patti Loveless performed a benefit concert in Lexington, KY for eastern Kentucky flood victims. 100% of proceeds going to the fund.
Ah, you started the Dwight Yoakam channel after all!🤣 Seriously, though, thank you for this song, it is one I am familiar with and one of my favorites. Does anyone know if that is Flaco Jimanez on accordian? It rather looks and sounds like him.
This is absolute perfection. Dwight’s amazing, as always, vocal performance, a little south of the border flavor from the concertina, and the twang from the Fender Telecaster that is reminiscent of Duane Eddy all combine to make this the best thing I’ve seen this year, if not the last several years. God, I love this so much. Thank you, PJ. You really knocked this one out of the park.
PJ, I stopped the video immediately after the first time through to make the above comment. Then I watched the remainder and discovered I had echoed your exact same thoughts. I guess great minds think alike. LOL.
Dang near hurt myself getting in here! So very excited to watch you hear this, along with the Great Flaco! Thank You. From, what I consider his best Album, This Time…a whole new sound: Thousand Miles from Nowhere.
His voice reminds me of a brook. Beautifully flowing over the rocks. Beautiful songs like this and Delilah by Tom Jones leaves you shocked. It is so beautiful you listen anyway. Wonderful selection and analysis P.J.
Wouldn't you have loved to be at that concert? I think you actually became a Dwight Yoakam Fan some months ago after reacting to "Streets of Bakersfield. I've always enjoyed your reactions, but now I also see continued growth. You recognize Flacco Jiminez and you recognize a Telecaster when you see it. Nice work with these recent Dwight Yoakam songs. Good stuff
Flacco's Jimenez: the Jimi Hendrix of the accordion. Look him up,he's literally a living legend in Mexico. God,thank you for all the Dwight. Two musts: South of Cincinnati & Bury Me Along the Big Sandy.
I am a huge fan of Dwight. My father was a truck driver for 45 years. Long haul. He would always try to listen to college stations and new artists. He introduced me to to every kind of music out there. When he heard Dwight on the radio he found a local record store and brought home “guitars Cadillacs” the EP version. I was around 6-7 years old. I’ve been a fan since then. I was lucky enough to get to meet Dwight on my birthday a few years ago and he was so kind and he asked me what my favorite song was. I said “Your acoustic version of ‘If There Was A Way.” He said “you got it.” And he played it that evening at the concert. I’ve seen him live 3 times. He is still so amazing!
Dwight Yoakam playing and singing, and in particular this song -She Wore Red Dresses - will get numerous repeats, as dusk falls, and a libation of my-at-the-moment preference in my hand on the eve of a day-off from work. This song and others by DY sets the stage for a playlist that follows but isn’t limited to the following: Raul Malo (and the Mavericks); Mary Chapin Carpenter (who toured early in her career with Yoakam) playing any and everything she has done but especially the “Stones in the Road” and “Come on, Come on” albums; Lyle Lovett (anything he sings); Nanci Griffith especially her songs “Love at the Five and Dime,” and “There’s a Light Beyond These Woods,” “Trouble in the Fields,” and about every piece of music she wrote and everyone she has sung with; Jimmy LaFave, especially his versions of “Walk Away Renee,” “”Desperate Men Do Desperate Things,” and “Only One Angel”; Rosanne Cash singing her “Black Cadillac” album (about her daddy Johnny Cash’s passing) and especially songs from “The List” album, those songs Her Daddy told her where essentials for her musical “country” repertoire; and finally before the night goes toward daylight, Rodney Crowell singing “I Ain’t Living Long Like This,” “If Looks Could Kill,” “Till I Gain Control Gain,” a”Many a Long and Lonesome Highway,” including his complications/duets with Emmylou Harris (and everything Emmylou has sung, especially “Boulder to Birmingham”). It’s a long playlist and these singer/songwriters are now days more aligned with what is being identified as Americana or Roots genre, and I put DY along with them. These artist have gotten older as I have, they harken to an independence from the Nashville contemporary country sound; doing it their way. Two I mentioned have died in the past few years. If I continued this meander into the next day I would have to spend my free time with John Prine and Steve Goodman. I took a deep dive into Steve Goodman’s music last night (for the umpteenth time). He and Prine were buddies who started out together performing in the same Chicago clubs, writing songs together, etc. These days, Goodman is best known for “City of New Orleans” and if that’s all folks know of his works then that’s enough, paraphrasing Kris Kristofferson, who with Paul Anka gave Prine and Goodman their big recording break. Lordy, just look where listening to DY took me. That’s enough soul music for the time being. Thank you for taking this journey in to Dwight Yoakam-land. It’s been a good visit.
Hi! Next time you watch Hank Jr., please check out his softer side. We all know he is the coolest badass out there but there is a romantic side too. The song is called, THE LAST LOVE SONG and please do the live version. He is much younger and sitting down on a stool in a live TV spot. Thank you so much! 🙂
Probably best all time live recording, vocals, and flawless instrumentals of Dwight and the boys... I sensed when I first heard "Guitars and Cadillac's" That Dwight was going to be big. He's far better then most county entertainers and his violin player and lead guitar player in this band were the best he ever had (with Flaco). There is one video of Dwight and his group doing a live concert somewhere on UA-cam and he plays all his best tunes during that concert. If one searches for it, one will be happy he found it.
I so hoped this would be the video you picked for this one. The lyrics aren’t that happy but the music is absolutely wonderful! 😂Glad you enjoyed it. This whole Austin City Limits episode is fantastic.
Your getting on this Dwight Yoakum kick is making me almost regret not seeing him circa 1996 or so when he was passing through where I lived at time. Problem was, he was at or near the peak of his commercial success and it just meant more of a crowd than I was willing to tolerate (not to mention ticket prices I really couldn't afford). I did just get to finally see Home Free last night, so I got that going for me, which is nice.
I keep saying, if I can get my hands on a time machine, here's what I'll do. Not go back and cure pandemics, create world peace, climate change etc. Nope, I'd be totally selfish and go back to experience the greatest concerts that I didn't get to see, due to timing or lack of funds. Who wants to joins me at a Beatles concert, CCR, The Band, The Who, Supremes, Aretha, Van Morrison, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Dolly, Dwight, Loretta ++++++ ??
@@sarahdee374 , I'm an old man now with more money than time, and I just try to focus on current opportunities. Next week will be Weird Al. But, I hear ya. I've got to seem some legendary performances out of pure dumb luck, though, and look forward to more.

Flaco Jimenez on accordion. He was a Texas Tornado with Doug Sahm, Angie Myers, & Freddie Fender. They were one of the best bands that ever came out of Texas.

He’s also a great guitar player!! Even though the intro sounds quiet simple it’s really not he has to pick it perfectly that’s why he’s looking at what he’s doing to make sure it’s absolutely perfect!! And it is!!! Beautiful song ❤❤❤ great reaction❤❤❤❤❤

Welcome aboard.
"Heart Like Mine" and "Fast as You" are two of his best rockers.
He is unique among all of the country artists. Try You're The One, Ain't That Lonely Yet, Back of Your Hand. None will disappoint.
The Pride of Pikeville Kentucky. Hello Harlan county Kentucky.
My god, this is beautiful. The musicians! Flaco Jimenez , still active at 83 on that beautiful accordion.

You really like Dwight, try some Ricky Van Shelton for another great voice.
I 2nd the motion. "Somebody Lied" would be a great starting point.
