In this video I show you how to replace the laser unit.

Since this is a couple of years old I don't know if you'll respond, but I wanted to say thanks for the great step-by-step. I currently have a replacement laser deck on the way ($45 on eBay for the entire deck assembly), but I'm being told by many that you can't just swap the laser unit as it is "mated" with the motherboard and a new laser will not work. Can you verify whether or not this is true or just a bunch of naysayers? :D
EDIT: Just wanted to follow up on this for anyone in the future. Did my deck swap, no issues at all. System booted fine, reads game and 4K Blu-Rays fine. No problems with any "mating" chip between the drive and MB. Thanks again!
Followed your instructions and got my ps5 working again. Of course its best to get the disc laser deck and not just the laser. Really easy to replace. Hardest part is remembering the screw placement for the case. Only $39 to repair when Sony wanted $300.
If you don't mind me asking where did you buy your replacement part for $39? If you could post link that would be great too!! Thanks, glad you got it fixed!!! Mine just all of a sudden stopped reading the discs but will spin them up and eject them fine so assuming its the laser not reading anymore.

Very informative! I would have liked though, a more detailed reverse process fro reassembling, MOST especially for the part to insert the ribbon back into the laser bracket, which I noticed you skipped over entirely!

Do i have to look for a specific laser that used to belong to the same serial number PS5 as mine or is that irrelevant and any laser will work? I remember thats how PS3 laser replacement used to work

Good video. But in Minute 5:00 you put this small cable out. No problem. But how do i get it back in ?
Is this a non genuine one or a original replacement and is the quality still the same ?
Any suggestions on where to buy? There's a bunch of sus shops I've never heard of before and the reviews on third party amazon and walmart are in the 3-3.5 out of 5 range... which is pretty scary.

Mine was the same. Replaced the laser and started working on bluray and games.
Is it always the laser if the disk can't be read? Mine just started doing it. I have a problem with leaving the game inside the console so I turn it off and on with it in there still.....is it possible something like the rollers might be out of place ??

So uhhhh did checking the rollers fix the problem because mine literally started doing that yesterday. Also I never knew leaving the game disc in was bad.
@HFG I have had mine since April and it won't won't read discs anymore. The disc will also not eject automatically on its own so I have to eject it manually. Since it is still under warranty I am sending it in for repairs.
Question, what is the mechanism that you referred to called?
