- Boyang Jin (Chinese: 金博洋; born October 3, 1997) is a Chinese figure skater. He is a two-time World bronze medalist (2016-2017), the 2018 Four Continents champion, a two-time Four Continents silver medalist (2016, 2019), the 2017 Asian Winter Games silver medalist, and a five-time (2014-2017, 2019) Chinese national champion. He is the first Chinese skater to medal in the men's singles at the World Figure Skating Championships. On the junior level, he is the 2015 World Junior silver medalist and the 2013 JGP Final champion.
Jin is the first skater to ever land a quad Lutz-triple toe loop combination in international competition, the first skater to have landed four quad jumps in a free skate and six quads in international competition, and the former record holder of scoring the most points on one element (the quad lutz-triple toe loop combination).

The best 4Lzs do indeed belong to Kolyada and Jin, however I felt it was a bit of an unfair comparison considering this isn't Jin's best 4Lz vs Kolyada's best. Jin's best 4Lz was at his LP at Worlds 2017 in my opinion, or at least it was far more superior than his one here.
Two of the very best quad lutzes! But if we have to compare, i think Kolyada's one is an untouchable masterpiece!

Kolyada may not have the same consistency as Jin, but that 4Lz was the best one ever done by anyone, ever. That GOE was criminal.

Yes, fully agree. I still remember watching this jump, still after year or two. When I saw it live back then I thought it was triple, so effortless... The edge, the toe pick with no prerotation. But I agree they both has perfect technic.
He didn't have footwork going into the jump which back then was a -3 GOE deduction
No the best 4Lz was done by Yuzuru Hanyu. Although he only ever did it once in competition.

@@Boymanjusri There is no true false.....whether he did it only once or 1,000 times it's still the best one I've ever seen. Kolyada's Lutz in these video puts every himan being, albeit a very very short list,TO SHAME...... That is a fact not open to opinion. If you can't see that, then you don't know enough about jump technique and nobody can help you.

I'm an American and I really root for Nathan Chen but Mikhail Kolyada has THE BEST 4lz ever, unfortunately it was never consistent but when hit, it was by far the best ever. Mikhail Kolyada could be the best male figure skater ever if he had consistency but alas, he did not. He may not have emoted much with his face but his body movements were just so special and said so much about the story of a program. His movements so easily lyrical without much effort. Incredible.
The thing that weirds me out with nathans quads is that they dont really "feel" smooth. He has brilliant technique, air position and consistency, but it just looks a bit stiff maybe? I dont know...

Iirc, the reason why there's a judge gave Misha 0 GOE is because he didn't have steps preceeding the jump. Before, in the CoP from 2014-2018, there were bullet points where you have to be able to check as much as you can to get higher GOE. The rules were changed tho.
Both of them are great, good, correct lutzes but i give advantage to Kolyada.

I think that when Kolyada landed his quad lutz was the time when maximum GOE was only 3. Which i think Kolyada should had receive a plus 3. It was a textbook Lutz. In the case of Jin Boyang, he landed it when GOE was raised to maximum 5, and he almost got the total points in this competition for this Lutz. But i guess that, although it was a beautiful one, he was overscored, considering he was competing in China, at home, so...
At that time, there's a rule saying you need to add transition into a single jump, or it has to be in combination. Misha didn't do neither, hence the goe being so low.
Him getting 1.57 GOE is like Yuna Kim winning silver at Olympics. Both robbed!

That specific one from Kolyada is essentially the best one that will ever be, but Boyangs is also excellent and he was more often successful.
I think this comparison is not very fair, esp to jin boyang, cause I don't think this is his best 4Lz (I thjnk his best 4Lz would be around the year 2017), also if you're trying to compare both from the same competition, both clips are from different years of the same competition, the rules ISU set between those two years also had some changes (e.g. different max and min GOEs, not requiring some step sequence or something before that jump), though I have to agree Mikhail Kolyada deserves higher GOEs, good thing they removed that rule

Jin’s height and edge are some of the best but his head position (tilted back and shrunk neck) take away from the impression of the jump for me. Instead of the wow moment (as with Kolyada), I’m half-distracted by the head position.
My problem with Boyang is he always jump so close to the boards that it makes me worried every time he jumps whether he gonna fall or not 😔

Just different approaches.
Boyan Jin has so not beautiful head's position when he jumps. May be it doesnt matter for judges at all but I can't help seeing it. Same does Alisa Liu.
Excellent technique by both. Unfortunately, neither can really land this jump. Maybe once in a blue moon.
I think Ilias quad lutzes are getting up there aswell.

Kolyada has the height but NO distance, it’s a small 4Lutz compared to Jin’s massive 4Lutz with both incredible height and huge distance, plus speed out to do a #T ; while kolyada has no speed out to do a combo, for a double, not to mention a 3T.
It's just that he actually can do a combo, 4Lz3T, you can find a video, if you're interested. He could do it in 2017, he can do it in 2020. Did he jump it at competition? No. But the question here is about his technique and ability.
No distance? Are you blind??? Also definitely enough speed for a 2T (You don't need any speed for this) and more than enough for most people to do a 3T (combo's don't need much speed if you have good strength). To call Kolyada's Lutz small shows that you don't understand this sport....

Both require mastery...but different approach.
20 years ago when I first saw ice skating they said that Russian was the best but now they recognize that Asians with small& feather bodies can do the best , many western countries want Asian skaters represent for them at Olympics.A truth that ability in sports depends on physic- body and its very different among races. The governments always say that ," we don't care about the races, we banned racism" but they really care about it just for medals.
