Since recording this episode, I’ve learned that the Master Lock 175 Magnum has the same internal mechanism as the older Master Lock 875 and 975 models. The methods outlined here should therefore work with those models too :)
Certainly you have earned it! 👍 For me, your teaching method is absolutely exquisite. I appreciate every lesson video and enjoy watching them several times in succession. They are satisfying to revisit for another viewing time and time again. I never considered lock sports would appeal to me to participate in until I found myself frequenting your channel. Look at me now, knowledgeable enough to follow along, and capable of succeeding with enough attempts applying the lessons on the easy to intermediate locks so far. Thank you for your dedication and thoroughness.
I was able to decode my M175 MasterLock using the method outlined here. I did not have a thin metal probe so I had to use the alternative method at 5:15 on the video timeline mentioned in the video for each of the four dials. I'm very happy!!! Thank You
Had this same lock with a longer shackle and it was actually stuck open. Followed the instructions you had and boom I had it unlocked, decoded, and open in no time at all. Great video
I've just found your videos and am well pleased. Ive been a fan of LPL and Bosnian Bill for years and have been looking for other vids. Lock Noob and a few other have nice vids. Now you're on my list of locksporters as well!
Quality video as usual! Even a video on decoding a combo lock is wonderfully done! A breakdown of the mechanism. A detailed description of the decode process. It was all thoroughly enjoyable and a feast for the eyes. Well done!
This really helped me get into a location where someone had changed the code on our own lock.... I found in the sunlight I could actually see between the code wheels and the bottom frame and it was clear as day where the "sweet spots" were. I confirmed it with a tool, but just goes to show how easy it is.
Hard to listen to the video. Looks like a good one but had to stop because I was having a hard time understanding you. Music in the back ground is not necessary and makes it difficult for those of us that have hearing issues.
Another cracking video Andy. The graphics you use really make your presentation stand out. loving it. Thinking you really deserve to be well recognised in the upcoming awards. Strength to strength, Onwards and upwards. 👍👍👍👍👍
You would have thought that a company who has been manufacturing locks this long would put false gates in their combination locks. Nice video, nicely produced as ever.
It is curious - I have. Really cheap bicycle combination lock that has been giving me real problems to decode and when I took a closer look, it has at least one false gate - so I would imagine that Master Lock should be able to build that kind of security feature into their products as standard.
Great that, thank you. I nearly bought one of those pads, the other day- maybe should have? As a big fan of recycling tools, at least there's always a use for my broken picks!😁
Hey Peter - sure, I think if the pick is thin enough to fit between the dials, then it should work just as well as a specialised decoder tool. They are quite expensive for what they are, I think!
I've been opening my Master Lock 875 with the tension method for years. So easy to do and faster than the feeler method, I think. They use the 875's at our Home Improvements store (Home Depot) here since locking up nearly everything to thwart thieves. And I am always sorely tempted to simply open their locks to get whatever I am shopping for, (but I never succumb to the temptation). It makes it that much more frustrating to wait up to 10 minutes for a clerk to arrive and open the caged shelf for me...
Thanks Nick - I can’t claim originality for that hack but neither can I tell you where I first saw it; I just picked it up along the way. It works really nicely though 😉
Cheers Fish. Wonderful video with detailed information, diagrams and tips for bypassing this lock. To be honest I don’t really play with combination locks. I should give them a go and explore them again. Seems like all the tricks I used as a school boy for my shenanigans seem to work on newer models. Did get into trouble for my mischief. 😊 Probably why I don’t explore them now. Take care.
Thanks Derrick - well, if the locks are your to begin with, you can get up to all kinds of bother and not have to look over your shoulder the whole time!! Cheers for checking it out.
I was a mischievous kid. I would borrow my friends bicycles and relocate and relock them to other racks and various play yard equipment on the school grounds. I got caught and got into a whole world of trouble with my school superiors and my parents. Suspension, grounding and my poor bum 😆
It's a normal thing. You can try to put more strength to the shackle and rhe wheels 😉 If it persists, try lub and then setting the combination multiple Times in a row
Nicely demoed and explained Fish. I knew about the pulling on the shackle trick, but didn't know the mechanics of why it worked. So it was an intresting one for me. I'm suprised they went with a Boron carbide shackle then use a zinc body tho. A little bit of fire and that will melt and dissappear in seconds
Yeah there are lots of odd choices with ML - the fact that they also put out the American 1100 which is awesome, so why not transfer that same tech across the product range?!
@@fishpicks4531 the thing i dont get is, the locks for security are generally canny well built. Boron shackle. BB locking mechanism, nice strong body. Then they chuck that rubbish core thats so easy to pick in there. At the same time they make the 410 LOTO, with an awsome 6 pin core with lots of good security pins and is a challenging pick. But its a LOTO, so made of plastic. No good for security then. Why not put the best of both together?
Thanks fish...The lock has "M175" stamped on the back case, would this be different from the "175" It seems there is a blocking plate just prior to the release bar once I send the tool in.
Hi tried both methods but no success with either. Under tension all dials have equal play. In fact when put in a vice and tesioned with a screwdriver all the whhels turn freely as if no tension. Whith the other method I could never find a depression in the wheel and i tried for hours.
It worked great ...i bought 2 locks at a "bin" store and someone returned them with the codes missing and I just applied pressure while as i turned the dials to the loosest number and 'wa-la' they opened...now to reset them lol...thanks you tube

The lock is 20 bucks it's gonna stop 95% of normal people it's easy to pick a lock when it's not locked onto anything and your in a work shop . Go spend a 100 bucks and get a real lock then

Some great videos I agree but sad fish doesn't upload anymore
Wow! I was on the fence about whether or not I actually knew how these locks work. Your video made it crystal clear. Thank you! Great video!
A most impressive video Fish. It's always a joy to see what you have to share with us. Thanks.

Again, an excellent presentation. I liked the dissection that illustrates the guts.
Thanks - it took me a while to animate all of that but I think it does add to the clarity of the instruction. 😉🙏
had mine open in 5 minutes. First video I found for this model and it was excellent. Thanks!
Alternative method worked magnificently. Thanks for the great vid.

All too often when a lock company closes a door, they open a window! Or sometimes a different, larger door... Great video, as always!
Thanks mate - yes, it does seem a bit draughty in the Master Lock household! 😉
Close one gate and open another. ;)
This is the first time I've seen the whole mechanism explained. Great!
Ah glad to hear it - cheers for checking it out mate 🙏
Combo locks are some of my fav to play with. I enjoy testing the tension and unlocking it.
Yeah I agree - the open is really satisfying when it comes 😉

@@fishpicks4531 as always that's what counts. I love the things which can be picked up along the way. 😍
Thank you. Would you know how to get it to function again knowing that it IS INDEED OPEN, but I don't know the combination? Thanks.
Very comprehensive. You were born to create UA-cams'!

Well, the next one will be my very first unboxing video! Plenty more ideas to follow too 😉
Thanks! Super easy to pick if you understand whats happening with it
Excellent presentation!, I enjoyed!
Really glad you enjoyed it - thanks for taking the time to comment 🙌
I have a unique issue with mines. All the dials remain stuck and the latch is unlockable. How do I tackle this?
Superb video Fish thanks!

What do you do if it’s open and you forgot the combination
A decoder should still allow you to feel the gates and then arrive at the correct combination to relock it.

The space tolerance between dials and the lock body won't even accommodate the width of my pick set. Crazy small spacing
I followed the instructions to a t and when i tested the lock a second time it would open
Boom - great job 👏
