I got rly high and watched Kobe highlights for like 2 hours one night and his ability to just get to the rim or get a shot off no matter what is so good.
Obviously his questionable shot selection made him borderline a chucker at some points but he was good enough to make up for that lol

Kobe being able to hit these shots led to him shooting 45% in the last 4 mins of the finals and 46% in 4th quarter scoring in the playoffs. He also led the playoffs in 4th quarter scoring in all his title years and the year they lost vs the Celtics.
There are barely players with a better efficiency in playoff clutch situations. Only MJ tops him
He also played in the dead ball era. Its simply way easier getting to your spot, getting 'good shots' because players cant really get into your face etc.

Worst most casual take of all time
Kobe could take and make these shots, thats the difference, and because of his stature these are shots he had to take, if what you said was the case he'd average 21 but on 50% shooting, and nobody's arguing that that's the scoring numbers of the goat scorer. Bad take.

people don't realize how many difficult shots Kobe took. Kobe's stats and percentages would be even better if he didn't chose to keep looking for a better shot, instead he took any shot and tried to make it work, which is one of the reasons he was difficult to guard 😂
Kobe knew better, he's always teaching it to others about how they need to go to their spot, need to make good shot selections etc but he never did it himself, he just had belief he can make it work and honestly he made it work more often than not🤷🏻‍♂️😂

No, Kobe might be the most skilled scorer, because the people ahead of him just have some near superhuman ability(I guess a case could be made for Steph, although that is more his ability to leverage 1 skill where he is an outlier), but MJ is the greatest scorer ever, and I basically see no case for Kobe over MJ other than aesthetics. Kobe took harder shots than MJ, but that's because MJ was better at getting easy shots because he could jump so high to just shoot over anyone too small to guard him, and a first step that let him teleport behind anyone guarding him. MJ was better in terms of volume, consistency, efficiency, playoffs, clutch, resilience against good defenses, and the ability to demolish weaker defenses. Oh, and because apparently this matters, he won more rings as well, and was the leading scorer in every single playoff series he ever played in.
For reference of how big the gap is Kobe has 13 40+ point playoff games, 1 of which is a 50 point game. Kobe has 97 playoff games where he failed to score 25 points. His playoff PPG average is 25.6ppg. If you want to say that his first couple years shouldn't count because most players aren't in the playoffs that goes up to 28.5ppg from 00-01 and on.
MJ has 38 playoff games with over 40 points, and averaged over 40ppg for a finals series. 8 of those are 50+ point games, and a 63 point game to boot. MJ failed to score 25 points in the playoffs 17 times. He has averaged 33.4 points in the playoffs for his career
Kareem is second IMO, scored way more, did it more efficiently. Kobe was efficient compared to league average; Kobe was not efficient compared to Kareem.

      @MonstarCave 7 місяців тому +4

Wondering why you streamlined it to playoffs where Jordan was impeccable sure but listen....Kobe is the best scorer ever to grace the court.
in 2003 he had 9 straight 4 point games tying Jordan's record(2 of those are 50 point games).
2007 He had 4 straight 50 point games(could have had 5 straight but he scored a measly 43 in the 5th game)
Out scored an NBA Finals team who won 60 regular season games by him self through 3 quarters....2005-2006 Mavs. Kobe 62 - Mavs 61
He had an 81 Point game in the NBA nothing else needs to be said.
You want to put up consistency, and efficiency, clutch and resilience against good defense? Lmao Kobe is literally the embodiment of that he was dropping those 40 point games in arguably the toughest defensive era's in NBA history the league average for ppg was around 95(it was 110 when Jordan was dropping his 40's), also playing through multiple injuries. 2006 he has had the highest ppg average since Jordan at 35 ppg, again this is still in the best defensive era in history. Mind you, all of this I'm telling you is also the time the league is at the lowest paced era in NBA history not lowest year, but that span of time from 2000-2007 are multiple years are in the top 10 lowest in history.
Let's also look at what you said about Kobe taking hard shots.....which is true, but that is by design, Kobe took harder shots not because he couldn't get an easier shot....Kobe played mental games at all times, even off the court. Kobe would take the toughest shot he could because it would be in the mind of the defense that no matter what they did he was going to shoot it and chances are it was going to go in. What that does for the dude giving his heart on defense, is it puts doubt in their mind that "no matter what I do it's not really up to me, he has to fuck his own shot up" dudes were literally putting their entire hand in Kobe's face when he shot and they put their best defenders on Kobe. Shane Battier, Raja Bell, Rip Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Bruce Bowen, Tony Allen, Ruben Patterson, Ron Artest, AK47....bro I can literally name more than that because there is a lot of guys I'm forgetting this is just off the top of my head.
You looking at the results and not accounting for who it's being scored on, if we wanted to just hand pick shit James Harden would be the best scorer in the modern era of NBA history that is documented....but he's not because he's playing the weakest defensive era in history with rules that won't even let dudes contest shots damn near.
Kobe's only problem was his injury history, and his first two seasons that he basically sat on the bench for even though he was ready....that's why he's lower on all time scoring list, that and not being drafted to a poverty franchise at the time.
Prime Kobe is the best score ever, eye test he passes, and he's did it in a defensive dominant era where the pace was slow, and he was doing a lot of this through injury. Playoffs be damned, Kobe willed bad teams to the playoffs and still won those 3 trips to the finals were not the type of teams we see today and he was winning vs some juggernauts in the finals and even on the way up to those finals Spurs, Suns, Mavs...the west was never a joke the whole time he played in the NBA.
See how I did all that without ever talking down on Jordan? That's the difference between the people who know basketball and those who have a clear bias, make your case but you don't gotta talk about the negatives of a player to get your point across every player has some negatives.

Kobe was a true all time great, top 10 of all time for sure!
When it comes to simply scoring (free throws aside;), no one ever came close to what Chamberlain did. His numbers are so far and above his peers (or any other era) that it’s almost laughable. His first 5-7 years for just scoring (forget rebounds or other stats) will never be duplicated. If they allowed him to come to the NBA right out of high school, his numbers would have been even further off the charts.
There are three Gods for team sport stat production (where their stats are far and above their peers - only really valid way to make such a comparison) that put them on the Mt Olympus. These would be:
    -Babe Ruth
    -Wilt Chamberlain
    -Wayne Gretzky
