I played at Ian Saint John football summer camps at Aberdeen as a kid. He noticed my physicality and pace and moved me from CB to CDM a position I played to the age of 27. Great coach and a lovely man R.I.P

Another great who's sadly passed on. I'm a man utd fan who appreciates great players whoever's they play for. Bet the great shankly is waiting for him with ball at the ready. Fabulous tv show with greavesy and never took himself too seriously. Charming man and great player too. RIP Saint.
Sorry to hear Ian's passing, he was a very good player and an even better pundit. Saint and Greavsie was the best ever programme of it's type. Respect from a lifelong Man U fan.
I'm truly saddened to hear of the passing of a true football legend and a gentleman, being a lifelong kopite, I'd like to express my gratitude and thanks to you Sir, my heartfelt condolences to your family, friends and colleagues, not forgetting all your fans from around the world. Ian, YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE. God bless legend. Much love XX.

R.I.P Ian St John, Only knew him from Saint and Greavsie and he was a wonderful warm human being in that obviously a great player too. Condolences to his family Liverpool and Scotland too.
A true Anfield great who served the club with distinction, pride and passion, as well as Scotland. If it was not for Ian St. John, Liverpool FC would not have hit the heavy heights to where they are today - and alongside Shankly, he is up there with the greats in the history of Liverpool, Scotland, Motherwell and football itself. He may be gone, but his spirit continues. R.I.P Ian St. John. You'll Never Walk Alone.
rip ian st john , great player for liverpool , a credit and great servant to his club and country and overall a good person , am irish myself but men like ian st john and jimmy Greeves were the driving force in British football in the 60s and really what has made it what it is today . Lot of great players have left the world lately , sadly missed
May he Rest In Peace. A legend of English football. A true legend of the game and tv personality of the 80s. God bless him and thank you for the memories, what a player.
I last spoke to Stainty around 3 years ago. I was metal detecting in Storten wood on the wirral and He was walking his dogs. I just dug up a couple of old copper pennies and he asked what I found. We chatted for 5 minutes, I gave him one of the coins to look at and his face lit up with a smile, it must of set him back so I gave it to him. He was a goalden Gent. Deepest sympathies to Sainties Family.
I saw him as a Leeds fan in 1974 title decider at Anfield small, ran all day and played really well, and they won 1-0 the bastards (we still won the league) but along with greavies a great advert for the game unlike the crap we have now!

This has been a difficult season for Liverpool. I hope they win against Chelsea at Anfield. To at least alleviate some or if not all the gloom and tragedy that the club has gone through over the past week or so.

Ian St John and Ron Yeats signing for Liverpool in 1961 under the great Bill Shankly was the start of Liverpool becoming the most successful club in English football history. 118 goals and 2 league titles but most importantly he scored the goal that won Liverpool the Fa Cup for the first time in their history in 1965. RIP Ian St John Liverpool will never forget you 😭 YNWA ❤
Our local church in Kirkdale put up a sign saying; "What will you do when Jesus comes to Liverpool?"¨ Someone painted the answer: "Move the saint to the right wing."

Grew to love Saint when he and Jimmy Greaves set the TV on fire with their football knowledge and humour on "Saint and Greavsie". Somehow poignant and fitting that both St. John and Greaves should leave us all within a few months of one another in the same year. RIP two of the greats.
