The USS Enterprise-C is one of the Enterprises we’ve hardly spent any time with. It appears in one episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, where it accidentally caused the creation of alternate history, but that’s all we’ve seen. Yesterday’s Enterprise was a fantastic episode, but we need more information!
Today we’re going to talk about the Destruction of the USS Enterprise-C. I don’t think we need to give a spoiler warning here, but if you’ve not seen the episode that came out well over 20 years ago, here is your warning.

Star Trek The Next Generation USS Enterprise-C Ambassador-class Star Trek Picard USS Enterprise-E Trek Central Terry Matalas Sir Patrick Stewart star trek online star trek ambassador-class star trek uss enterprise-c - Розваги
If I recall, the ambassador class was the first class of ship to employ phaser strips instead of cannons
Yes indeed. She also had burst-fire torpedo tubes, though both systems were much more advanced on the Galaxy and Nebula class ships.
Though she has had little screen time, this ship re-established what it means to be the Enterprise.
There is a 70 year black hole that needs to be explored between Kirk and Picard. The Enterprise C held off 4 Romulan warbirds. That isn't too shabby
I would love to see a show based on the Enterprise C!!
That or even the B. So much that can be told about both crews and ships.
I'd rather see the B... but not with Harriman in command. I have a different timeline story where he stepped out soon after Kirk's death and another Captain took over!! That was quite satisfactory!!!
Enterprise C and B would make great TV series
@@buzzinpoa yeah, I think it would be pretty easy to change captains. Not like the series would have to start right after Generations.
It it would be nice to see more of Enterprise B and c
Most beautiful Federation ship in TNG. I love how it seems more balanced looking. Neither the nacelles or saucer are overly large like the Enterprise B and D respectively. Also the nacelles look to be the right height, neither too high nor too low like the Enterprise A and D respectively. The neck is neither too thin or too thick like the Enterprise A and B respectively. The only thing that I might change would be to make the engineering section and deflector just a little bit wider.
I will go that far and say it looks better than the Galaxy-class. If I had my way, this would have been the hero ship of TNG.
The bussard collectors are way to close to the saucer tho. And the diagonal deflector looks unnatural and weird. The hull looked cramped and too short like it was a distorted picture. But that can also be the fault of the saucer being too large. Nacelles in general were a tad too thick as well. The struts were dowright ugly for the 90° angle. This is most certanly not the best looking enterprise.
Actually the Ambassador class was also seen at the battle of Wolf 359 in the DS9 episode 1.
an awesome episode indeed. and one of my favorite Picard quotes comes from the near end of the episode:
"All hands, this is the captain speaking. As you know, we can outrun the Klingon Vessels, But we must protect the Enterprise-C as she enters the rift... Let's make sure history never forgets the name.. Enterpise!"
Yes but some Enterprise have the extra protection of the famous plot armour
I'm sorry.... the what?
😁
@@BELCAN57 never heard of it
Give credits to the writer who create that amazing speech
I appreciate your mentioning of the Excalibur. Peter David wrote a series of novels based on her crew and adventures.🖖
Agreed. Shame she was destroyed and then the name given to a galaxy class
I wouldn't call it worst, it did fend off multiple warbirds.. the enterprise D couldn't fight off more than 2 at once.. pretty sure Nerandra III was 3+
4 warbirds. Type A warbirds.
The Klingon shops that 1701 D fought in that timeline were far more powerful than the 3 war birds 1701 C fought in the standard timeline.
@@DanielBrown-sn9op Numbers game
@@DanielBrown-sn9op The ships the Ent D fought were Klingon ships, Klingon tech is somewhat lower than Federation tech which is lower than Romulan.
Heh, the D couldn't even fight off an old bird of prey that eventually destroyed it.
I read in the Star Trek The Next Generation Technical Manual on the Enterprise D where it said during the time of the Ambassador Class Enterprise C the Galaxy Class was being designed at Utopia Planitia.
As with so many fellow Trekkers, "Yesterday's Enterprise" remains my favorite STNG episode. Additionally, Rachel Garrett, despite spending so little time with us on-screen, is my favorite captain. A shame she wasn't brought back in some form. Trish O'Neil did a wonderful job in that episode.
Survived the Battle of the Line against the Minbari only to get axed at the hands of the Romulans. Lady can't catch a break.
An Enterprise C spinoff with about 5 years of airtime would be fantastic. We know its fate just like Pikes fate but we can get a great TNG / TOS movie era series. What a ride.
I couldn't agree more with the sentiment that we want to see more of the Enterprise -C... and B as well. It could be a 2-season series, with season 1 being about the Enterprise-B and 2 about C.
Weird cause the Enterprise B is the longest on active service of all the 1701's.
I wish
@@beakwooda.k.aadregallus8788 1701 was longest (40 years). 1701B 36 years (2293-2329)
Had more screen time than the B, but agreed would be fantastic to see her again.
Wow over 32 years since we seen this legendary ship! Due to it only being seen in “Yesterdays Enterprise” it’s definitely one of my ship favs for sure. Thank you Trek Central
"There was a fierce volley of photon torpedoes, bright light, and then here."
"we were responding to a distress call from Narendra 3. But there were four warbirds."
Yes, I very much would like to see more of the history of both the Enterprise C and B.
We saw more of the Enterprise C than we did the Enterprise B.
It's always been one of my favorite classes of star ships. It would be nice to see more of it.
Nice breakdown and I like that you included the storyline from Vulcan's Heart that tells of the events both pre and post Niranda 3. It is super cool not only how the battle went but how well the Enterprise C did against 4 Romulan Warbirds of that era.
We need a B and C tv show
They need a spin offs of both Enterprise B and C. One movie and one episode isn't enough to enjoy the ships. Awesome video by the way.
The ambassador class was never given any real screen time. Every time you see a fleet of starships in TNG or Deep space 9, it was always Galaxy’s, Nebular and the most overused in the Excelsior class. It almost felt like Star Fleet had no real confidence in them. Sad as it’s a very good design and links the B and the D nicely.
We saw an Ambassador in Redemption, it was Riker and Geordi's ship for the tachyon detection grid.
I kinda feel like the ambassador was a transitional class and thus never really stuck around to become as popular as others. whereas the excelsior just proved to sort of a case where the basic hull design just proved so useful. it may also have proven to accept refits easily.
That was always one of my fav episodes along with Best of both worlds 1-2, and of course who can forget, Relics. “No bloody A, B, C or D.”
In my head canon, before and during the battle with the Enterprise C. The Romulans were using older D-7 cruisers they acquired when they exchanged cloaking technology with the Klingons for their warships during their brief alliance right after 'Balance of Terror'
By masking their warp and cloaking signatures as Klingon vessels, that's how they slipped through Klingon territory just before their attack on Narendra III.
It'd be awesome to see more about the Enterprise C
They need to make a series on the Enterprise B and C
it could be the reason we haven't seen many ships with that design.
Even though she was on only a short time, I was fascinated with, and impressed by, Captain Rachel Garrett
I would like to see the story of 1701 C from their standpoint.
What I DONT want to see are more and more ST episodes about paralell universes and people crossing between them while keeping their memories and ships intact.
I always thought the Ambassador class looked FANTASTIC for a ship that was thrown together for a single episode.
TBH I think it's better than the Galaxy. I'd believe it as Picard's TNG ship in a heartbeat.
Too bad they didn't get to show the battle it would have been so good to see it
that woulda required them to design a new Romulan ship :)
Not worst, just horribly outnumbered/outgunned!
Great job, very well done. Keep up the good work!
Considering that the Enterprise-C held her own against 4 Romulan warbirds, I wouldn't call her the worst. True, she was only in service from 2336 to 2344, and was essentially a filler class between the Excelsior and Galaxy classes.
"Lieutenant Castillo! Inform the crew We're going back."
"Yes, Captain!"
"We'll give the Romulans a good fight!"
It's the only starship Enterprise that didn't appear on the big screen. The NX-01 didn't either but in terms of Federation starships. I'd love a series about the Enterprise's B and C, which would fill in most of the 70 year time period that they cover between the A and the D.
Love the Andy Probert design for the Ambassador class
"... one ship could have stopped this war before it started." -- Jean-Luc Picard
The greatest showdown in TV history ! The mighty Enterprise vs 3 K'Vort Class Klingon Cruisers 😮
Would totally enjoy seeing more about the Enterprise-C & its class of starships. I've always thought of it as being fairly likely a battleship/battlecruiser type starship.
It never made sense to me as to why the franchise went from the Enterprise A to the Enterprise D within a one year span without having the story of the Enterprise B and C for us to see before hand. When we did get to have the story of the Enterprise B and C it was quite short an not to have been talked about again in the franchise.
It did not just go from the Enterprise A to the D in one year.
First of all TOS was made in the 60s with the Original Enterprise no A,B,C,D. That lasted for 3 years untill it got cancelled and eventually went into syndication. In the meantime we got 3 TOS movies and Star Trek was popular again so a new series called TNG was born in 1987 for a new Generation and set in a new century ie the 24th Century now instead of the 23rd because that is what Star Trek is supposed to do look to the future. That is why there was never any shows set on the A or the B or the C.
Now would be a good time to do it do and if the people making SNW were on charge then yes I would love to see a show set on the Enterprise B and one on the Enterprise C too.
@@sharonec5419 He meant the 1701A was revealed in STIV in 1986. TNG premiered with the 1701D in 1987.
@@JCtechwizard In universe, it was decades of time between them.
C was double the power of B IIRC. People do not give the C the credit it deserves.
and D wasn't massively stronger than C....in a wartime situation getting an old Heavy Cruiser that is only 20 years outdated when you are loosing...the ships a keeper as Riker stated. Also the Ambassador class held against 4 Romulan Warbirds, that proves its a bloody tough design....I bet if a Galaxy class faced those 4 Warbirds it would have a warp core breach problem lol
@@jyralnadreth4442 we most likely would see Geordi opening the coolant panel again and watching it explode for the 50th time. Most likely after the first disruptor blasts lol
I really want to see something that explains why the Ambassadors had such relatively short service careers. Did Starfleet uncover some kind of design flaw when conducting the inquiry into the loss of Enterprise÷C? What happened?
The yesterday's enterprise battle is how a battle between capital ships should play out, it's strategic not fast paced.
DS9 did a similar thing with capital ships, lumbering Galaxy and Galore class vessels were outpaced by birds of Prey and defiants.
It's much nicer to watch then the crazy battles we are shown in Disco and PIC and as much as I love SNW it also falls into the glitzy bling battle trap. Sometimes less is more.
4 Romulan Vessels against a solitary Ambassador class Heavy Cruiser is the very definition of long odds. Especially when the majority of the fight is pinned down close to the planet's gravity well and orbital space. Speed, acceleration, positioning, orientation at the point of initial contact are the critical factors that define of ship-to-ship combat in the Star Trek universe just as much as shield strength/recharge rate, targeting sensor accuracy, damage control/redundancy, sustained energy weapon output along with torpedo firing rate and capabilities.
It all fits into the lost era of trek. From the Enterprise B tot he start of Next Gen, I would love to see a show set in that period.
It would start and fill in the gaps that folks want to see, myself included!
The Enterprise C, the Ambassador Class was way better looking than the god awful Galaxy Class. Apparently it was one of the early drafts for Picard's Enterprise, but Rodenberry thought it looked 'Too Militaristic'.
I really like the Ambassador Class Starship. She’s the bridge between the original ship and the next generation starship. I command one in Star Trek Online…the Excalibur! 😎
The ambasador is a great looking ship, and gives the feeling of being both outdated and ahead of its time
“Enterprise C” deserves a streaming series for the sacrifice that united former enemies in time to fight the Dominion and save DS9.
I could go with never seeing that design onscreen ever again.
USS Fugly-prise! Indeed, I recall it was thrown together at the last minute.
@@Mannwhich Probert's design for the C is such a much more pleasing to the eye vessel. They had, I think, three seasons with that design screaming at them in every conference room scene and we get the aptly named Fugleyprise instead...SMH.
@@randybentley2633 Oh wow, almost forgot his design existed. Much more elegant than that high-school drop out version they gave us! Ick 🤢
Enterprise C defending a Klingon outpost attacked by Romulans is peak Starfleet. I with we could have seen it.
Man... It must be VERY pressing for every captain of an Enterprise to know the legacy they have to live up to. The original crew, the Enterprise-C's selfless sacrifice securing peace between the Klingon empire and Federation, the enterprise D's confrontations with the Borg, the E's battles...
It would be great to see more of the Enterprise C in live action episodes; especially as Enterprise B is supposed to have disappeared without a trace.
Interesting how the Enterprise is always the Federation's flagship. I wonder which ship was the flagship in the years between Enterprise C's destruction in 2344 and Enterprise D's commissioning in 2363?
I prefer the design of the Ambassador class to the Galaxy class.
Lieutenant Yar dies in 2 episodes throughout the series
ambassador class ships are deep space vessels.maybe theyre on long year missions this is maybe bcause they are not on screen they are too far away from inner federation territory
I liked your standing in. The Enterprise C is, and always has been, my favorite design. I have no real justification for this as the Galaxy Class was the most beautiful ever designed, and of course the Enterprise E was tactically far superior, but I just love this ship! In fact, I'm still mad at Diamond Select for producing every Enterprise EXCEPT the Enterprise C!
The design is a beautiful in between ship designs.
I remember hearing somewhere that the ship was basically made from multiple ships hurriedly because they didn't have the budget for a new ship so it has the enterprise d nacelles as well as many other parts borrowed from other models
I really wish we had seen more of the Enterprise-C. I really love the Ambassador class ship, especially Andrew Probert's early design. I wish Round 2 would make a model of Probert's early Ambassador class model.
I love all of Star Trek . Like everyone else on this channel .
Enterprise C is one of my favorites. Refit, A, D then C.... I don't understand the negativity it receives
I love the Ambassador Class design
id be game to learn more bout the ship. or a mini show of some sorta like those short treks like discovery had
I really enjoyed ‘Yesterday’s Enterprise’ especially seeing Tasha Yar. Denise Crosby gave a great performance as Tasha, her interactions with Guinan had great depth. I have to say that I preferred the uniforms in the alternative timeline. I know that the collars were more military to reflect the state of war but I think they had more gravitas…not the belts though, I didn’t like the belts😊.
Would love to see more on the Enterprise C
Nice to have a new Narrator Good work.
Thank you kindly! Ensign Theo is doing a fab job so far while some of us are away :)

The Ambassador class is actually my favorite design.
I actually have been working on a RWBY/ Star Trek - The Lost Era crossover involving the Enterprise-B which explains what happened to the ship.
Considering the early anbassador class had some design flaws expecially in the the computer system being underpowered over work last od the duel tronic computer with limited isliner systems also still in develoment at an early stagethe enterprise c was out classed by 4 romulans heavy cruisers to 1 ambassador class uss enterprise c
course it was outclassed. if the federation had ships that could swat 4 ships owned by their rivals, their rivals wouldn't be rivals.
I would love the idea that the Enterprise-C escaped destruction(in its own timeline) and become part of the Fleet Museum alongside Enterprise-D. I would even liked the idea of the Enterpise-C under the command of Capt. Tasha Yar....
Of all the ships named Enterprise i like the C the most she was a great looking ship showing the transition between the B to the D and she did her name proud in fighting 4 warbirds she may have lost the fight but she gave as much as she took.
You know if I was in the Star Trek universe and I was part of the team involved in designing the Ambassador Class one thing I would never ever do is design such an advanced and large starship class with an outdated computer system like the Duotronic computer system which at the time of the Ambassador Class was over a century old inspite of all the upgrades the Ambassador Class was one of the largest most advanced ships ever built and sadly it was because of that outdated computer system that led to the downfall of the Ambassador Class even though future ships of the class went through several upgrades including getting rid of that obsolete computer system though sadly it was too late for the Enterprise C and what makes me mad is that several high ranking Starfleet admirals knew of the design flaws and covered it up till it was discovered by the newly promoted Admiral John Harriman and like I mentioned if I was part of the Ambassador Class Design team I would have requested to the Admiralty that all work on the class be haulted till the computer system could be reworked with a newer system.
I hat the fact that the Ambassador class appear to have no impulse engines on the primary hull . If they separate the primary hull is screwed.
With that character in the section 31 movie, I’m hoping we see of the C
More like over 30 years ago. One of my favorite TNG episodes ever.
Heh, the Enterprise C only served for twelve years, cut down in its prime. It was interesting that the 'Enterprise' name was placed on hiatus for about 20 years. One might wonder about Ambassador class ships being quite enormous in their day, a huge expenditure of resources, yet this flagship would have a measure of dishonor brought to her of the sort one would expect from less glorious vessels and ultimately was a super heavy cruiser destroyed by Romulans in a hopeless battle. This is the first description of the event which suggests why the Enterprise name would be retired for a time. What happens when a colossally expensive ship that has the weight of the Flagship AND legacy placed on it should be less than perfect or have a seemingly lousy end?
The irony is, that the Enterprise C's final, unexpected mission might have been one of the most important even at the cost of the ship and crew.
Although, one could just as easily argue that the Enterprise D loss, while it had the worthy goal of saving a planet, the way the ship was lost was definitely less than glorious.
Anyway, thanks for the video, I learned something, and also can at least imagine why a 'hard luck C' might have soured Starfleet on the Enterprise name for a time. Possibly, some folks in Starfleet command seeing the idea of a legacy flagship as either old fashioned or akin to idolatry?
I have heard that the Enterprise C destroyed one Romulan Warbird and disabled another before being destroyed. It there was one less Warbird the Enterprise would have emerged victorious.
The Ambassador Class was littered with problems. There was an issue with the Isolinear technology not being 100% ready for Fleet wide implementation so Duotronics were...made to work, mostly, alongside the Isolinear systems. This....did not work as hoped and the class suffered from numerous, random, and problematic system failures and reduced performance. This adversely affect the class and made them unreliable, but Star Fleet forced the class into production and covered it all up trying to patch problems as they arose. This, unfortunately, hindered the C when she was attacked and compounded the issues experientially. It was not just from the overwhelming of the Romulans it was systems failing one after another as combat strain took it's toll on unstable systems. They were lucky the Warp Core did not fail and breach during the incident.
This person’s voice is amazing.
It also was not distroyed in the fight but taken back to the Romulan home world and broke and place on the plant serface
The C is my favorite by far!
The Klingons didn’t react at all to the disappearance of the Enterprise C because they never knew it was there to begin with. It was mentioned at least twice in the episode that there was no record at all of the Enterprise C’s battle with the Romulans.
Cheers
I have a jumbo-sized Enterprise c eaglemoss really cool value is going up on these ship's.
6:08 The captain was killed by a Valkyrie wing 1/100 ( probably by IMAI) glued on her forehead .
I was not expecting too much for the their enterprise to do better ....😜
They should not have reused Bird of Prey models for warship-size Klingons. It has caused confusion for decades. They should have reused a D7 or K'tinga model.
🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely well done and very well informatively explained and executed in every detail way shape and form of all information possibly provided to you on this subject matter indeed, And I myself have always liked the Ambassador class starship's and it's design in giving it a more modified upgraded version of a constitution class starship and I myself own the Eaglemoss model and have a few model kits of this beautiful ship indeed!,👌.
How many poor USS Enterprises got blown up ?
🤪🤯🤯🤔
Not enough to merit a good survival track record 🤣
I love starship's named USS ENTERPRISE NCC 1701, A,B,C,D and E!!!
3:19 say really fast 10 times!🤣
I would watch a series centered around the _C_ . After all, it served for many years, and it's not like the ship got to really show its stuff in 'Yesterday's Enterprise' considering it was heavily damaged. In the _STO_ storylines, it performs fairly well. You even get an Ambassador-class of your own once you complete the mission. There was also a cooler-looking concept design for it, but I think that one looks even more futuristic than the Galaxy-class. I like how the Ambassador takes design cues from the Connie and Excelsior, and at the same time has elements that call forward to the Galaxy. Even though it was made by kitbashing ship parts to save money, it does look like it fills the gaps. Oh, and I liked the circular saucer better than the long ovoid one on the Galaxy. I always hated how front-heavy the Galoob toy of the _D_ is. And I'm sure the film crews hated it more. The Sovereign is a much smarter design.
If I was to follow Peter David’s example and write a series based on an Ambassador class, what would I name it?
I play Startrek Online, the extended cannon doesnt sound like anything in STO
The Enterprise C looks like a Counterfeit Enterprise D
@Trek Central, how did the Enterprise B fare after being torn up by the Nexus?
I actually like the design of the Enterprise C more so than the Enterprise D. But if I had to pick my favorite Enterprise E.
I'm just going to go ahead and ignore the STO detour in time... In other news, apparently Rachel Garrett will be appearing in the new Section 31 movie.
