- Opening statement of Harry Markopolos before the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises Hearing on "Assessing the Madoff Ponzi Scheme and Regulatory Failures." February 4, 2009 This video is provided courtesy of C-SPAN.
National hero. Overdue for the highest national awards and recognition. Was Harry Markopolis recognized with Presidential medal of Honor?
Time will tell. I say possibly, or a different medal in business.
As a finance professional myself, this guy is to be admired.
After watching the Netflix documentary i was so impressed with Harry the work he did this guy deserves a huge recognition I hope he had gotten that.
What's the documentary called?
@@JoshBreakdowns Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street
@@eshadacosta4023 Thanks
eshada...he needs to be in charge of the SEC...somebody needs to overhaul the incompetent bureaucrats.
Markopolos is the Hero! Good job Mark!
We need people like him in the government....
We did have people like that in government…..
The “government” is full of crooks they don’t want someone who is smart and honest.
Bravo! I'm a Vietnam vet and would have had this guy as my wingman in a heartbeat because he is so focused and sharp and to the point. Thanks for the video!!
This guy is a hero that tried to save people’s financial lives. It’s a travesty he was ignored. And the banks were bailed out…. Real bulls-t
This guy is a legend
My fav character out of the whole netflix documentary!
My hero. A brave man.
Badass man, loved him in the Netflix Doc
He woke up that morning in savage mode 🥷🤺
This guy should be running the SEC. Why do people with low ethical standards get the most important of jobs? 14 years ago and still no progress when it comes to the corruption from within.
I’m very proud that he never never gave up, even if it took him 9 yrs, to report about Bernie Ponzi scheme. . Glad the FCC finally believe in him.
They ever believed him which is the saddest part. Madoff's firm only collapsed when the market did and he couldn't pay out investors or take on new money to keep his scheme going. The SEC never once filed a charge against Madoff. They were and are completely useless in the financial world and exist as a tool to make uninformed and unsophisticated investors believe there are tough regulations in place when in fact it's anything but.
He is a very smart and capable person...never recognized by the government for his tremendous work
obviously the sec is PART OF THE SCAM !
look into the religion of who let him off
Not buying a stock in over a decade was a good clue. They didn’t even check.
Astounding isn't it? Simple phone call would have verified this. Has anything changed?
Mr. greatest mathematician & financial business marketing today🙏

Well, enjoy those McDonald's happy meals while they last.
Great speech, captain our captain.
I'm curious as to why the SEC wasn't held liable, in some way, in regard to the victims of this fraud. In my opinion, that is complete negligence on their part and, although I am no lawyer, from what I understand, negligence in business is a tortious offense, no? Like, if a business is negligent and customers are harmed as a result, the business is liable; this is true of many government institutions as well. So why wasn't the SEC found liable in some sort of case and made to make these victims whole in some way?
The government would sure as shit be one institution that could actually afford to make them whole, and I'm not talking about the fake earnings that he generated, but just the base money that people who were wiped out put in. Perhaps a cap on claims up to a certain hundred million, so as not to cause actual ripples in the economy, but the SEC and the government, in my opinion, should have been forced to make whole, AT MINIMUM, those *regular people* who actually lost their life savings and were wiped out.
Like, if Madoff took you for a billion and you still have 5 billion, I don't think you are as deserving as that elderly couple who put their 5 million into a feeder fund and lost it all, but you still should have some sort of recompense for sure. ALL OF THESE PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE, and the government should have footed the fucking bill because they were responsible for letting it get to that point through gross negligence, and perhaps in some cases, corruption, as a result of these personal relationships Madoff cultivated.
HERO. HERO. HERO. HERO. HERO.
This mas should be awarded a presidential medal and become the head of the SEC.
There is a force much bigger than all of us behind the good people showing up in recent generations and they are not going to be denied. If men like this have stayed alive this long, God help the banksters from what is coming for them ! Actually, God has no good reason to help them now ! Let them be comfortable somewhere AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC !
My Greek American hero. He makes America great again.
America is and was GREAT and does not need to be Made GREAT Again.
ONLY the scammers such as CONVICT45 need to be put in Jail !
He was army special forces
Can't keep a good man down
You and your army devotion...
Isn’t the US-military the extension of the system this man is opposing so fervently. - There’s an even bigger picture of all ongoing scamming to get.
He's right. There's no 'I' in team... But there's 'ME'... boom!💥Waka Waka 🐻
Kaboom - this guy is right to be annoyed after as he says "serving up the entire case on a sliver platter" and the sec fumbling it time and time again.
The most respectable fraud investigator! The honorable Mr. Marcopolos ! Hats off for his exceptional analytical and mathematical skills!
I felt sad when I heard he had to check his car for bombs and carry a weapon!
Bernies J friends in the SEC helped him for 40 years the only thing that stopped him was everyone wanting their cash out at the same time in the 2008 crash, his bro who was his "conpliance manager" got 10 years, his son's got 0 years, while working with him for years and years.
Harry for President
Mis respeto a mr harry markopolo ,we in México right now need his help,to fight a similar case. What can we do ? Dic 25 2021 jfm
Two things are infinite. The size of the universe and human ignorance.I am not quite sure the first but certain the second.
It just proves that upper-level white collar criminals get away with causing financial harm to the American public. Blue collar criminals don't get away with it.
As Mikef500 said at the beginning of this comment feed, the US Government should IMMEDIATELY put this man in charge of the SEC. HE NEEDS TO BE THE ONE GIVEN THE WIDE BROOM to sweep up.
Genius
Αυτός ο άνθρωπος είναι ο γίγαντας στους ώμους του οποίου στεκόμαστε.
Wowee
Look familiar? This is what Hank Green is doing to me with his company and colleagues to my identity.
I need people to come forward. I already reported everything to the FBI. I need someone to reinforce the clues with something physical
I love it the way the media has made this guy the hero, like ‘ the man who knew’ . The truth of the matter is , a school kid could see this wasn’t adding up but the institution allowed this to happen , banks were skimming off the top, individual bail out investors were skimming , all the country club set didn’t care as long as they were part of the Madoff club . The feeder funds were where most of the devastation happened , the others just had to sell jewellery and their million dollar accessories to get back on their feet . If it wasn’t for the 2008 crash, this guy would still be fighting his case , but when the sons turned their dad in , this story suddenly had a villain and needed a hero. The whole financial institution were responsible for this not just one man
I know that this isn't his initial warning, but this is probably the first time someone (Markopolos) can look back at something and say "That aged like the finest of wines," and not have it be sarcastic or imply curdled milk.
Is he Slipping Jimmys good Twin brother?
That guy is a bulldog
Legend has it that victor navorsky is still wandering the airport today!
