    National hero. Overdue for the highest national awards and recognition. Was Harry Markopolis recognized with Presidential medal of Honor?

      Time will tell. I say possibly, or a different medal in business.

    This guy should be running the SEC. Why do people with low ethical standards get the most important of jobs? 14 years ago and still no progress when it comes to the corruption from within.

    I’m very proud that he never never gave up, even if it took him 9 yrs, to report about Bernie Ponzi scheme. . Glad the FCC finally believe in him.

    • @christophergargaro959
      @christophergargaro959 9 місяців тому

      They ever believed him which is the saddest part. Madoff's firm only collapsed when the market did and he couldn't pay out investors or take on new money to keep his scheme going. The SEC never once filed a charge against Madoff. They were and are completely useless in the financial world and exist as a tool to make uninformed and unsophisticated investors believe there are tough regulations in place when in fact it's anything but.

    I'm curious as to why the SEC wasn't held liable, in some way, in regard to the victims of this fraud. In my opinion, that is complete negligence on their part and, although I am no lawyer, from what I understand, negligence in business is a tortious offense, no? Like, if a business is negligent and customers are harmed as a result, the business is liable; this is true of many government institutions as well. So why wasn't the SEC found liable in some sort of case and made to make these victims whole in some way?
    The government would sure as shit be one institution that could actually afford to make them whole, and I'm not talking about the fake earnings that he generated, but just the base money that people who were wiped out put in. Perhaps a cap on claims up to a certain hundred million, so as not to cause actual ripples in the economy, but the SEC and the government, in my opinion, should have been forced to make whole, AT MINIMUM, those *regular people* who actually lost their life savings and were wiped out.
    Like, if Madoff took you for a billion and you still have 5 billion, I don't think you are as deserving as that elderly couple who put their 5 million into a feeder fund and lost it all, but you still should have some sort of recompense for sure. ALL OF THESE PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE, and the government should have footed the fucking bill because they were responsible for letting it get to that point through gross negligence, and perhaps in some cases, corruption, as a result of these personal relationships Madoff cultivated.

    There is a force much bigger than all of us behind the good people showing up in recent generations and they are not going to be denied. If men like this have stayed alive this long, God help the banksters from what is coming for them ! Actually, God has no good reason to help them now ! Let them be comfortable somewhere AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC !

    Bernies J friends in the SEC helped him for 40 years the only thing that stopped him was everyone wanting their cash out at the same time in the 2008 crash, his bro who was his "conpliance manager" got 10 years, his son's got 0 years, while working with him for years and years.

    I love it the way the media has made this guy the hero, like ‘ the man who knew’ . The truth of the matter is , a school kid could see this wasn’t adding up but the institution allowed this to happen , banks were skimming off the top, individual bail out investors were skimming , all the country club set didn’t care as long as they were part of the Madoff club . The feeder funds were where most of the devastation happened , the others just had to sell jewellery and their million dollar accessories to get back on their feet . If it wasn’t for the 2008 crash, this guy would still be fighting his case , but when the sons turned their dad in , this story suddenly had a villain and needed a hero. The whole financial institution were responsible for this not just one man

    I know that this isn't his initial warning, but this is probably the first time someone (Markopolos) can look back at something and say "That aged like the finest of wines," and not have it be sarcastic or imply curdled milk.
