- Join us as we travel to Montagu, on the remote north-western corner of Tasmania, with our boat in tow to hunt for squid and monster King George whiting! This is one of the best places we've ever visited... See if you agree!

Love your videos Starlo, I just love 'em! I'm 10 years off retirement and I can't wait to do what you do - full time! Stay safe mate cause I'm looking forward to many more vids!
Thanks mate! Go for it!
Thanks Steve that was one of your best! After watching you fish for the best part of thirty plus years it’s great to see and hear the excitement you and Jo share! Rory too. Thanks again guys and gals for your content.
Thanks so much for that great feedback, Kev!
What amazing conditions and water clarity
Yes, we got lucky!
Absolutely loved this! I was born in Tassie but mainly fished the Scamander River. I loved the concentration on Rory's face. He's one of those 10 percent anglers who quickly learn, adapt and grow in their new surroundings - whether reading a small wash zone tight up against the rocks and plucking a half dozen pigs from seemingly unfishable water to quickly adapting to a new species and plucking a true elbow slapper! Never met Rory but I loved his articles on anything rock fishing, learned a ton from reading them and always knew I was in for a great read when one of your articles, Steve, included Rory! Please pass this on to him. One of my heroes along with you, Steve! Cheers, Frank
Thanks so much for that great feedback, Frank! I've passed it on to Rory, too, and I know he'll be chuffed. You're spot on with your assessment - Rory is one of fishing's "quiet achievers" and is quick to adapt to any new scenario with the minimum of fuss and fanfare... A real "fisho's fisho" in my book. Tight Lines. 👍
@@StarloGetsReel Thanks, Steve and keep up the great content and narration.
Some fish there. What a spot too. Nice vid👍
Thanks so much!
wow, amazing , biggest I've caught is 41 cm in the Parramatta River, great video champion, love to see a whiting on lure video,
Thanks! I'm working on it.
Great upload. Thanks for sharing 🙏
Cheers!
What an awesome session on the whiting & squid. The water looks amazing so clear. Tassie has a bad rep for its weather but I have lived in most other states but my heart will always take me back to the island state. ATB Brad
Yep, the weather can be a real challenge but the fishing options are AMAZING! 👍
Bloody fantastic ! You can't beat an awesome session on the KG's and squid.
Couldn't agree more!
Theres something about rory 😂😂. We also have calamari that i caught as a child with my dad in the bay. Most of the "calamari" we eat here in south Africa is humbolt squid now. Sadly all the good stuff exported. Except my dad would never eat calamari claiming it was bait😂😂
Thanks for that! Yes, a lot of Aussies once viewed squid only as bait... Times have indeed changed.
G'day Starlo, I fish.....a lot, all over South Australia, beach, rocks and kayak.
I never catch any fish.
I watch all the vids and learn as much as I can, yet I just never catch fish. I've literally been fishing 15 times in the last 6 weeks and caught nothing over-size, not even close!
If you ever come to South Australia, can you please take me fishing? I'd love to learn what I'm doing wrong, please! I would appreciate it so much and I'd be stoked just to catch something.
Love your videos mate, keep them up
Hang in there Brendon, you'll catch 'em! 👍
Can I recommend West Lakes in the cooler months. Try using soft plastic minnows. I usually a few good bream and salmon trout.
Great video mate.. any Whiting over a half meter is a cracking Whiting!
So true, Steve!
Great vid Steve, That whiting was huge.
Thanks!!
Nice one. At $110 / KG those are some nice gold bars there!
So true!
Great video, well done. Steve, what time of the year was that?
Thanks! Early January this year. 👍
Well done Starlo just watch when releasing as king George bound for release should not be handled without a wet rag
Our skin takes away their protective slime and they end up dying with infection
Thanks for that.
I remember catching a 50cm whiting off Edithburgh South Australia 20 years ago, It fought like Mike Tyson.
Nice! Yes, they're great fish at that size.
awesome video
Thanks, skeet!
Just between you and me 55cm is 2cm bigger than my biggest ever Tailor off the beach. Wow what a Whiting!!
@@justinadams5159 I know... Crazy stuff, huh?
Jesus Effing Christ - a 55cm??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - mate, starlo, that HAS to be photoshopped!!!!!!!😍
Pretty sure the one I’m holding is a 53 but my mate Rory got a 55 in the video.
Only seems like the last 3 years or so been getting bigger fish down in Tassie
They've been slowly building for the past decade or so, but definitely getting better, bigger (and more attention!) in last 3 to 5 years. It's such a good news story! They're being really well managed, too. If everyone does the right thing it should only get better.
Preffered the trout brother
Fair enough, each to their own I guess. Mind you, this video is getting a LOT more views than my trout ones do! 😉
Hi Starlo,
Great video. Fantastic fishing.
To get the whiting do you stay in the estuary or do you need to head out a bit further?
Thanks! Both! Inside and outside. Bigger ones tend to be offshore a bit. 👍
Nothing like a few chunky squid and some kidney slapping 'Tings to make you excited to get the frying pan out.
So true!
Damn nice whiting Steve! ---- how would you rate the area for kayak fishing?
Thanks! Definitely not for the inexperienced kayaker. Strong currents and often choppy water. But if you're on the ball and experienced you could definitely make it work, I reckon.
@@StarloGetsReel Thanx Steve, good advice.
